Hotel in NYC 3 nights for $500 total? Doable?

Well we ended up changing. It was because of my friend that we needed that budget. We are now doing one room for the 3 of us. It is a 1 bedroom suite with 2 double beds in the bedroom, and a sofa bed in the separate living room. We choose the Affinia Manhattan.

I stayed in the one bedroon suite at Affinia Manhattan and we loved it. If your rate does not include breakfast there is a bagel store across the street. the suite had a full kichen minus a dishwasher but included cookware, plates, silverware etc. My suite had two full bathrooms. I did ask if it were possible to get a room facing the side street so less noise for sleeping. With Penn Station across the Street and Times Square close by we loved the location. It was an older hotel and still had older style TVs when we stayed there but it was clean and nice size room.

I agree with the above poster- Affinia is great! We now ONLY use airbnb.com and book apartments. So much cheaper and usually much nicer. We've had four excellent airbnb experiences in NYC in the last two years.

My D stayed there and raved about how much room they had. I think you'll love it.

My DD wanted to spend a night in NYC with her cousin, for her 20th BD. I booked her a room using HotWire. If you look at BetterBidding.com, you can get clues as to which hotel is which. I pretty much knew, that the suite hotel I was bidding on was The DoubleTree in Times Square. Which was what I wanted, and I got it. I think it might have been $124. You can read on that same website, as to what recent winning bids were, so you have some idea, if you decide to use Priceline.

(I usually use Priceline, and bid, but for DD, I wanted her right in the area she wanted to walk around in, so I used HotWire).

We stayed at the Roosevelt this past December...LOVED it, and the location was absolutely wonderful! I would stay there again in New York Minute.

I'm glad to hear that as will check in this hotel on Sunday. I got it via Priceline for about $170.

Some places in NYC actually do have pools. They are typically indoors but rooftop pools are also popular. I know for a fact the Downtown Dream Hotel has one it is small but it is a pool. There are also some hotels in NYC (usually posh ones) that will sell NYers pool memberships so they make money just off of people paying to swim during the summer months.

The Brooklyn Bridge Marriott has a very nice, 75 foot long indoor poor.

Just returned from four days over Spring Break with family in NYC. We stayed at Hyatt Place Secaucus, just outside the Lincoln Tunnel. We used NJ transit buses, which stopped literally outside the hotel door.

The ride in off-rush hour times was approximately 10-15 minutes to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, very near Times Square. The hotel offers free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, free parking and the rooms are quite large for NYC standards. There are 2 queen beds and a sofa bed/sectional couch. My son slept on it as a sectional instead of pull out bed. Said it was more comfortable that way. The room would easily accommodate three people and our rate was $215.

Have a great trip! I will say - I doubt the Roosevelt would have their Christmas tree up anymore - but the week before Christmas it was beautiful.

Do you have a smart phone - if so - be sure to load the app "HOPSTOP". It is a great direction giving app - and has directions on how to walk, take a cab or how to get to a place by subway. (Taxi includes a cost estimate). The subway directions give detailed walking directions to/from the subway too.

And - if you need some "free" ideas - Grand Central station is great - I wish we would have spent more time there, and the New York Public library is spectacular as well. Both are just a very short walk from the hotel.

Have a great trip!!!

We didn't do priceline - as we needed to have 2 beds, and we wanted a "bigger" room as it just works better for our family. I think we were just under $700 for our 3 night stay.

Our 19 YO DD was absolutely fascinated with the mail-slot thing. at the hotel Apparently - she hasn't ever seen one of those anywhere.

For families looking for a pool the skyline hotel has a penthouse floor pool with a lifeguard and toys like noodles and balls. It is near the USS Intrepid. We stayed Ina room for $135 a night. My kids also liked playing at the playground in walking distance which had a spray area.

I use to live right by Skyline. I always parked my car their if I couldn't find street parking because their rates where the cheapest in our area.

Lucky! I tried to get the Skyline for next month. The lowest I saw was $250. Then it jumped to $400 as it was only suites left. And that was in January for May dates.
