well as you may remember, before our trip i was looking for a good hotel for our two days in New York City.

after a lengthy search i chose a new boutique hotel that's right across the street from the theatre showing The Book of Mormon - perfect location since that is the reason we went to New York.

Anyway, turns out we LOVED the hotel!!!!

The Pearl Hotel, located at 233 west 49th street.

wonderful service, beautiful rooms, continental breakfast, fridge and microwave in the room, free in room wifi.

and perfectly located for anyone planning on one or more broadway shows!!

two thumbs up!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

i should add that the rate was reasonable (for new york). But that might have been because it's relatively new (opened this year).
It's possible the rates will go up. But when i booked it, the rate was comparable with the 4 star hotels in the area.

Did you book direct?

I have been looking at 3 nights in NYC next month, last time we stayed at the Crowne Plaza Times Sq, cost me £150/nt, cheapest I can find same room now £326/nt:scared1:

Checked the link you just posted the 3 nights I would want(21st-24th Oct) $1519.73 or £316.61/nt

Don't think we will be going back to NYC in a hurry:rotfl2:

oh, that's what i thought might happen. When i booked it had just recently opened..
i booked directly with the hotel - online.
at the time i booked, i got a rate of $280 a night or about £175/night.

which is very reasonable for the quality of that hotel.

i thought the rate might have gone up since i booked it.

let me see if i can find the list of hotels i checked at the time.
the rates were about the same.

here's the list of places i was considering that had reasonable rates at the time i booked (some have free wifi, and some include breakfast):
--The Hampton Inn Times Square North (ranked 22 out of 431 on trip advisor)
--Casablanca Hotel Times Square (ranked 1)
--Library Hotel (ranked 3)
--Hotel Giraffe (ranked 9)
--Hilton Garden Inn Times Square (ranked 29)
--Doubletree Guest Suites Times Square (i think they charge for wifi) - ranked 39

if memory serves, the casablanca, the library, and hotel giraffe are all related boutique hotels. They were all booked, so i never could seriously consider them. But i also think they may be more expensive. a new yorker on the podcast board raved about the library hotel and hotel giraffe.

also, there's an apartment hotel that someone on this board recently stayed in. i can't remember the name. perhaps it has a decent rate?

I found out the Statue of Liberty is closing for one year soon, so we're going to delay our next NYC trip until it re-opens. Taking the ferry to the statue and doing the awesome guided tour of Liberty Island is one of my favourite New York pastimes!

Hello, I stayed at The casa hotel and residences Times square in May and loved it, I had previously stayed at The Westin Times Square but much prefered the friendly nature of the staff at Casa at the Westin being a bigger hotel I felt as though they didnt notice or care about your stay but the casa has a more intimate feel. The casa hotel hasn't been open that long (being a new build) so there was still some building work that was going on but hidden from the public's view, So never seen or heard. The bed was very comfortable and the room very quiet unlike my experience at the Westin.

We booked flights for May this year, without realising it was Memorial Day Weekend in the US :headache:

Hotel prices were even more insane than usual. We wound up staying in the Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden for £135/night (double room) - absolutely FANTASTIC. :thumbsup2: Much better than I was expecting - very clean, comfortable, great breakfast, great staff. Couldn't have asked for more!
