Does anyone leave a tip for housekeeping and if so, how much? I am having this discussion with my DW.

I do, $3 per day at the HOJO or Fairfield (or that quality of hotel).

Edit: It's just DH and me and we're tidy. :) It makes a lot of sense to relate the party size since that can impact the amount of work imposed on housekeeping.

$2-$5 a night, tipped every night-since housekeepers tend to be different people every day.

$1 per person/per day...everyday :goodvibes and we made mousekeeping envelopes in advance.

We usually leave $5 per day, leaving the money each day. As said, you get different people each day of your stay, why should the person who happens to clean the last day get $25 and the other 4 cleaners get nothing? In December, we also left gift bags with lemons off of our tree and holiday ornaments on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

We only tip when we ask for something extra, like extra towels or batteries for the remote.

We're a family of 5.

We leave $5 per day in an envelope. We made up the envelopes over the weekend for next month's stay. Every time I have a $5 bill I'll fill another envelope.

Thanks for sharing! I like the idea of having the envelopes filled before you leave. That will save me the hassle of getting cash each day! We usually pre-make our envelopes as well. We leave $1 per person per day (so $3 per day for us) On our last trip to FFI we had an outstanding housekeeper that left different towel animals on our bed! DD5 was so excited each day to see what would be left! :yay: I saw her in the hallway and asked if she was leaving these and thanked her for bringing joy to our vacation. I saw her name and on check out day asked the front desk to make sure she got the envelope I left with a nice tip. This way somebody else would not get the large tip for her hard work!:thumbsup2

We leave $3 - $5 per day, per room, and never put it on the nightstand.

Is that because they won't take money off the nightstand?:confused3

I think $3 is fair, I didn't think about it last time, I left $20 at the end of my trip, but thanks to all your posts, I won't do that anylonger!! :guilty: I really like the idea of envelopes, that way they know its for them and will take it!
Thanks for all of the ideas!!:goodvibes

Also, my 12 year old was in a funk over something. So decorating the envelopes with Disney stickers helped her mood a bit.

We wrote "Thank you Mousekeeping" on the envelopes, so there could be no mistaking our intent.

And filling the envelopes ahead of time means we're not dipping onto our cash on hand on vacation.

$5 per day for us, too (family of five).

Strangest thing on our last visit to WDW we stayed at Coronado Springs and left a tip every night in a clearly marked envelope with the cash sticking out the top and they never took it :confused3 I never saw them to personally hand it to them either. I have never had that issue before.

It hasn't come up for us yet, but since it will be just my boyfriend and I, and we have no kids, about $2 a day should be a good amount. I'd go higher if we were a bigger party or had children.

We don't have housekeeping come in until we check out, unless we stay more than 4 nights. So we rarely tip more than $5 because we don't get housekeeping. On the other hand, if we are there longer we request housekeeping 3-5 days into our stay (depending on the length of stay) and we will tip at that time and on check out day. If we do request extra towels or blankets we will tip the person who brings us those items upon delivery, that's usually $2-3.

Tips for housekeeping are not left on the nightstand, as this has sexual connotations, i.e., this is where money is left for a "lady of the evening."

Really? Housekeeping service is one of the very best parts of a vacation for me! Why don't you ever want it?

I am a tidy person by nature, but I never hire a house cleaner for my house--so it is all me doing the cleaning at home by myself. I can't tell you what an amazing pleasure it is to come back to the room all cleaned up by the hotel housekeepers at our mid-day break! You are all hot and bedraggled from the parks, and you walk in to this oasis of clean room, made beds, dirty towels magically disappear and clean folded ones in their place. It feels so good! Plus, we always have stuff like random trash from buying stuff in the parks and water bottles lurking about--and then suddenly they are gone and every surface is wiped clean. It is just the nicest feeling ever. It is also important to get clean glasses and the ice bucket cleaned out with a new bag in it, because we tend to use that a lot.

The maids at our last hotel were so wonderful. We called the front desk as we left each morning for the parks to let them know we were going and they could come in and clean--and by the time we came back that afternoon around 2ish, the room was just sparkling. We stayed at the Doubletree Suites Hilton in Anaheim, and I was so impressed by this hotel. Some hotels skimp on the housekeeping, but this one went above and beyond.

I typically give about 5.00 per day, and try to put the money in envelopes before we travel.
