So why does'nt disney build tall hotels? The tallest hotel, the contemporary was also the first built. The trend in other hotels (embasy, hyat and may other orlando resorts) is to have a tall building with a big open space in the middle. The only exception is WL. Which I love the space. Grand floridian has a little space but it is not that tall. So why not build big attriums in a tall building???

Since the area was all swamp before, maybe the ground is too soft to build the taller (i.e. heavier) buildings without expensive support for the building.

I enjoy the treeline without anything poking above it. (except a few things!) :)

I think WDW is trying to kept everyone safe. If they have fire (yes I know can't happen because of all the safe features) - they want EVERYONE to get to safety.

the higher the hotel - the less this is an option.

see I definitely live in a Fantasy world.

besides they are eye sores - just look at the Dolphin and Swan - don't you think they stand out.....

I like the "shorter" hotels/resorts. Seems to me that the major park icons stand out better that way. Much prefer seeing the castle, the ball, the hat, & the tree, in the distance, rather than a resort box. :)

Best wishes -

I would guess it is quite simply esthetics.

They could easily build taller hotels to rival the height of the TOT. But then you would be able to see them from pretty much anywhere. Just like the Dolphin and Swan are visible from many places throughout WDW.

I agree with all the opinions about why shorter so far, plus, DVC is a timeshare and not a hotel. Lots of difference in size and service in units for timeshares than hotels. People expect it to be home like.

Thats crazy. People love the Contemporary view of MK. Imagine a high view of Illuminations. It would be great. Disney maybe afraid of the risk but there are many other tall hotels just outside of Disney. People love WL and the views that they offer. I vote for a Illuminations view, 20 story DVC resort.

I believe Disney/DVC builds all resorts to best reproduce what it's themed after. If the theme called for a tall resort, Disney/DVC would build a tall resort.
I just can't imagine an Old Key West theme with a 26 story sky scraper.

MG

PS- I am very glad that Disney and DVC build resorts the way they do. I do not like those generic, tall, metal abominations. :drinking:

AKL is also several stories built around an atrium.

However, if they built the tall hotel and you could see it from a park there would be a whole group of people complaining about that which I am sure influences Disney.
