Hotel help!

What did you want to see in Notting Hill? No problem going to Paris if you don't speak French. Its very easy to get the train to Paris and DLRP. Loads of things to see round the UK if you want to travel about, lots of history like Windsor Castle and Stonehenge. Theme parks like Alton Towers. Are you Harry Potter fans there is the museum just outside London. Lovely little villages and seaside towns. So much really its hard to narrow down!

Notting hill was on my nieces list of things to see in London. Is there anything there to see?

Not sure about Notting Hill to be honest. Nearest I've been to it is the film :D

Paris can be done easily and is only a few hours away by train.
However it would be just one thing to tick off a list as you won;t get to see a lot of it and would probably be wishing you could spend longer there.
Or you could head to Reims. Home of Champagne if that is your thing. It is only 40 minutes outside Paris and you may enjoy it more.

As has been mentioned, so much to see in Britain.

If you want to stay localish to London, then you can get a train to Windsor. It is a lovely old town. See the Castle. Stroll down the Thames to Eton as well, take a nice walk in the Great Park.

Further afield from London is Stratford upon Avon, home of Shakespear.
The Lake Districk is further north still but is a fantastic place and home of Beatrice Potter. Even further North is Edinburgh.

However like lots of large cities, you will not see everything that you would possibly want to as London is a huge place.

Regarding Grosvenor Square. You are right near Hyde Park and across the park from Harrods, near Buckingham Palace, Oxford Street for the shops. Picadilly for the Fortumn and Masons and other shops. Bond Street for all the designer shops. A tiny bit further along is Regent Street, Picadilly Square, Leicester Square, China Town, Soho and Covent Garden.

So yep plenty of places :D

Not really no its just an area of London, no tourist attractions. They have a market on Saturdays I think but so do other areas in London.

As much as would would like to go to Paris and I am not sure we can squeeze it all in in a week. We will see

Thanks agains for all the amazing ideas of places to see and how to get around!!!

Once we narrow down a hotel I will be able to plan our adventure to London.

One last question-we will be there in the beginning of April 2015. What's the weather like in April?

Thanks again for all your input!!

Wet! Lol

Yep can be wet and windy one day, but can then also be quite warm the next. The joys of Spring in the UK :D

When you know your dates, let us know and if you need a guide or two to the city, then I'm sure some of us maybe able to help.

And of course, any further information that you need, ask and we shall answer :D

I actually do have one more thing to ask..

My sister and I were talking about the trip. We plan to visit April 3-10 2015. The weekend we will be there is Easter. We are not sure how the holiday is celebrated in the UK (here it's unfortunately like any other Sunday). With the holiday is is not a good time to visit? Would the end of June be a better time? Thanks!

The shops will be closed on Easter Sunday but tourist attractions will still be open.

One thing to maybe note is that school children in the UK get two weeks off over Easter so you'll get a lot of local families visiting London over that time - it might be quieter at the end of June (schools in England don't finish for the summer until the middle of July).

Good Friday and Easter Monday are Bank Holidays so lots of people off work and the shops aren't open as long.

June would be better as more chance of better weather as well.

London is busy with tourists from April through to the end of September. June is a much more reliable month than April for weather and the long evenings means it stays light until 9:30 pm.

There is a school holiday that runs for a week from the last Monday in May (previously Whitsun but now set to be the last Monday in May) that can run into the first week of June.

Trooping the Colour (the Queen's official birthday) is in mid-June and it is quite a spectacle to see the military and the Royal Family parading along the Mall to the ceremony. (I think the actual ceremony is only for invited guests.)

Thanks everyone! It is something to consider. Airfare prices are not out yet or can't check hotel prices for June either.

The toughest part will be convincing my niece as her 16th birthday is April 3rd and she wanted to go away. But I would rather visit at a time that the weather will be better.

The weather will/should be better in June and as has been said, on Easter Sunday the shops WILL be closed.

As a matter of Law, all shops over a certain size have to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

However that is only retail shops. All the other attractions and restuarants etc will be open. But as has been mentioned it is the school holidays so willbe busy.
Whereas in June thereare no school holidays.

Beacuse it is also school holidays in April, the flights and accomodation may be more expensive.

I appreciate the information! We will look at the rates for June once they are out and make our decision

Thank you again for all your help!!
