Hi Everyone,
I am new here and have a few questions that i need answers for asap!
My family which consists of me, dh, ds(3) dd(2) will be heading to WDW Next weekend 4/16 through 4/20. Ive went back and forth and we have decided we will stay offsite in a hotel somewhere. Anyone have any recommendations?
We have booked for the time being Holiday Inn Maingate East Hotel.
Has anyone ever stayed there?

Another worry of mine is and i completely forgot about them til i read somewhere...bed bugs....how do i find if they have them?!:scared1: I do not want to bring those "friends" home with me.
Thanks everyone

I have a tendency to recommend the hotels in the Marriott Village. The Fairfield & the Springhill Suites offer continental breakfast with their rooms. Booking at last minute they are running a bit higher than normal - also spring break & Easter time of the year of course. Lots of people vacationing. AAA rates are running $134 & $144 for your dates. I think 139 & 149 standard rates.

We have stayed at both & both were great. I see the Fairfield was listed as a Top 10 US Family Hotel for 1999 (tripadvisor). Rooms at Springhill of course are larger.

(The Courtyard is also in the village, but I don't think they offer a continental breakfast).

Your hotel (if it's the one at 5711 W Orlo Bronson) gets a lot of reviews on t.a. most of the time. It appears to be a 'love it' or 'hate it' hotel. They seem to get mostly 5's or 1's.

Remember, you will be paying for parking if you stay off-site. If you pick a value resort (like Pop) the room rate is 149/154/154/154. So you would lose the continental breakfast, gain free parking & also be able to leave the car parked & use the Disney buses to & from hotel. Something to think about.

I see you are coming in from Illinois? But you didn't say if you were driving or flying. If you are flying you will have to pay for transport to your hotel, which can add several dollars. If you stay onsite you would be able to use Disney's Magical Express to get to the hotel & back to airport free. So make sure you take that into account also for price considerations.

We are driving a (sarcastic) fun 16 hrs to florida! Doyou know if that hotel is clean etc. my biggest thing is ive read about bed bugs real bad in the area bt i guess thats anywhere?

We were staying onsite but its cheaper for us to stay offsite because were only doing 2 days at disney then the other 3 are sightseeing and beach days or family days.

My Mom always checked for bed bugs even before they became as bad as we hear about now. What you want to do is take the pillows off and pull back the comforter and check along the cracks and creveses. Lift the mattress and peak underneath too. They're tiny black dots. I've luckily never found any but I always look.

Stayed at that HI about 2 years ago in a standard room. It was remodeled and had nice quality furniture etc.

A standard room is small and the bathroom is teenie tiny. I am not sure if you will be content with 2 adults and 2 little kids.

It is a decent place in a great location, but the size might me an issue for you guys. Check for reviews in the orlando hotels section here on DIS or go to tripadvisor.com.

Last Dec. we stayed at Royale Parc Suites in the same area. It was great. Clean and good size suites. They had a free breakfast and free "happy hour" (beer, wine and soda) each evening. I did check for bed bugs, first thing and it was clean.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful and safe trip!

Thanks everyone! I have severe anxiety so i am definitly freaking out about all these things..didn't even think to check until i started reading reviews...thats what got me thinking..i dont want to cancel the trip for fear of something i can't control but ahh i dont want to bring home unwanted "friends". If we do find any are they normally just in the bed or would they be elsewhere in the room?

Check out trip advisor.com for reviews.

We have stayed offsite at Wyndham bonnet creek for around $120 a night in a two bedroom- great place to stay!!!

I just stayed at the Holiday Inn Maingate East in Feb and had no problemsd. The rooms are clean, the sheets are clean and the bathroom is clean.
I also checked for bedbugs but found nothing.
The carpets were old and looked dingy but we always wear slippers or shoes so I wasn't barefoot on them.
It wasd great getting up in the am and having a choice of Denny's or Waffle House for Bfst. Nothing special but cheap and quick.
there are no fridges in these rooms, that would be a plus but I got my room for $23 a night on bookit.com, what did I have to complain about?

Oh wow, i thought the website said it was brand new and that every room has refridgerators in them..i need to fridge for medicine thats mainly why i chose it. was the carpet like dirty gross? I have 2 children staying in the same room with me and i know they will always be on the floor.

We are staying in the deluxe queen rooms which look like the same one you stayed at! Hoping it'll be big enough for our two kids plus us. Is it really clean? Thanks so much for the link to look at it.
