We are traveling from Eastern Ontario, Canada to Disneyland in early December and we're so excited!!!!! I'm trying to find a resonably priced hotel that is walking distance to Disney. (Although we wish we could stay on site that is just way beyond our means.) So, far I've been considering the Candy Cane Inn, the Carousel Inn, and the Best Western.

Our children are 7 and 11. We'd like a room with a fridge and a continental breakfast. We'd LOVE a suite with a microwave but realize that perhaps we're not going to find that and stay around $100/night.

I would love input from others who have been to Disneyland lately about which hotel is the best value? Also, what is the best way to get the best rate? Is it worth phoning the hotel directly to see if they offer a better rate?

Thank you in advance.....I love planning our trips and this one is especially exciting!!

My family LOVES the candy cane. We stayed there as a family in March, and I went back with friends in May. The rooms are a little small, but we dont spend a lot of time in our room. Its a short walk- about 10 minutes to the gate. Their shuttle just serves their hotel and runs every 1/2 hour. The grounds are beautiful and the whole place is well care for. The breakfast is plentiful and fresh. The have:bagels with a couple kids of cream cheese, muffins, pastries, cereal (rainsin bran, fruit loops and one other, I want to say rice crispies), fruit (oranges/apples/banana), juice/ milk/ coffee/ hot chocolate. They also have peanut butter if you need a bit of protein.

There are not microwaves in the regular rooms, but there is one in the breakfast room that you can use at any time. There is a fridge in each room.

You can book the CCI either thru disney travel or directly with them. You wont find them thru any online booking agencies like expedia or travelocity. You also can't get the costco package for the CCI. www.candycaneinn.net

Oh, you might want to specify which Best Western you are looking at- there are about 6 of them in the area. Best Western Park Place Inn seems to get pretty good reviews, has suites and is very close to the park. I havent stayed there so I can't give you any first hand info.

Candy Cane is good, as well as Best Western Park Place Inn. I know that the Best Western has mini-suites with a pull out couch. They are an ok size for two children. They also have a micro and fridge. The breakfast is small, but doable for a couple of hours. And it is right across the street.

Carosel Inn is under construction right now from what I have read. That may impact your decision.

Check our tripadvisor.com for reviews as well as mouseplanet.com for reviews on hotels for recent stays.

I just booked the Portofino. It's close. No breakfast, but, Children eat free at the nearby Jolly Rodger Restaurant. Looked like a pretty nice place. I'll be making a trip report when I return mid-October.

My husband and I love the Best Western Anahiem Inn. we have always stayed there every time we go to Disneyland and are staying there this Dec when we go again. It's maybe, a 5 minute walk if that. The rooms are nice with a refrig, microwave, hair dyer. ironing board and a pool and hot tub outside. The staff are wonderful!!! :thumbsup2 and it's really not all that much. not really sure how much because, we booked it through our travel agent. but you should probably book something quick because when we booked our trip in July they said they were selling out fast for the month of Dec. Not sure if that's really all that true but, it is christmas time so I know they sell out quick.

The Carousel is nothing fancy, but they do have 2 bedroom/2 bath suites. We stayed ther in Nov and it was perfect for our family of 5. I'm not sure of the current prices. We paid $129 last year, but I'm sure it has gone up. Easy walk to the park and decent rooms.

We stayed at that dreaded Desert Inn and Suites across the street, and found it to be just fine! I am picky too. Off season you can get a room for $59 or a suite for about $79-$99. The pool is indoor, so that might be nice in December if it is cooler. To get the best rate there, go directly to their website and book through them. It is literally across the walkway to Disney, and you can't get much closer. The BW Park Place Inn is next door and apparently quite nice too. I stayed at the Candy Cane back in 2000 and we liked it there, but I am one of the people who did not find it walking distance. I like to save my energy for the park. I would recommend the shuttle for that one, but that is just me (maybe I am not as in good shape as some of the other Dis'ers! lol).

Another vote for the Candy Cane. The nice thing about this property is that it has its own private shuttle bus that runs back and forth every half hour. That's so nice when you're tired at the end of the day. They also have a really nice breakfast compared to many of the other hotels.

It's a pretty easy walk, though. Probably the equivalent of 7-8 blocks from hotel door to park gate.

All rooms come with a refrigerator. You can request a Premium room (which is just a deluxe room with extra amenities) and get a microwave. With Premium, you'll also get a VCR (or DVD player now?) and warm cookies, turn down service and the option of having breakfast delivered to your room. I went with some friends several years ago for one friend's 50th birthday, and although we only requested a deluxe room, we got cookies and a microwave, too! You might get lucky. Or you might ask if you could rent ONLY a microwave during your stay and see if they'll oblige for a minimal nightly fee. It's worth a try...

Ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the beds are sooooooooooo comfy. Just what you need after a long day of walking.

Thank you all so much! I booked the Candy Cane Inn today. I'm so excited!!
