My family is considering a vacation to Disneyland. Trying to make it as reasonable as possible cost wise. We have stayed at the DLH, Tropicana, and Park Vue. We loved the DLH but it’s not in our budget for this trip, it was nice to have a break from the park mid day at what felt like a spacious, clean, modern hotel. Any recommendations for hotels a bit further out that use the ART shuttle that would give more of a resort feel, instead of the older motels on harbour? Started expanding my search but now feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of the options.

Almost anything in Garden Grove. Many of the hotels are only a mile away and can be walked, but also have ART. Embassy suites comes to mind. There's a handful of hotels right by it and restaurants, too.

Hyatt Regency Garden Grove has a shuttle. It's a very nice hotel and gets great reviews.

Have you looked into Candy Cane Inn? They just renovated and it's close to the parks. They have a shuttle, too and the property is well kept.

Thanks I will definitely check out the Hyatt. We have family that have stayed at the candy cane and had great reviews, the pool is a bit small for my pre teen sons (we sound spoiled lol… coming from a colder climate in Canada we do love to take advantage of some warm weather pool time 😉).

Cambria kinda feels like a resort to me. Very cool pool area, bar, close to lots of food options (Starbucks, habit burger, Hawaiian, Jersey mikes all in the same parking lot). Theres an ART stop right outside, or you can walk to the Toy Story lot and use the Disney shuttles (that’s what we did). With teen kids, the extra room was awesome. (We had the two queen room with a separate living room and kitchenette). Customer service was great, hot breakfast is included. If you’ll have a car, the parking fee plus resort fee is a little expensive. We loved having two showers in the bathroom too. We would stay again. Hope you have a great trip!

We've stayed at the Hampton Inn and the Courtyard that are both right by the Toy Story lot multiple times in the past year. Hampton is much newer as it's been remodeled but we really liked the Homewood as well. It's about the same distance to the bus zone from either hotel. We just stayed at the Worldmark Anaheim last week as my friend had a timeshare and it was fantastic. Almost made me want to buy in we liked it so much. Both the Hampton and Homewood suites can be found for $160 a night if you look. I watch the prices and rebook over and over to get it cheaper as it gets closer. Doesn't always work but often times I end up saving a hundred dollars or so by rebooking.

Curious which room type had two showers?
Was it one bathroom with two showers or two separate bathrooms?

One bathroom with two showers. Kinda like courtyard Marriott. It was the 1 bedroom/2 queen suite with a living room/kitchen.

When you walked in the bathroom, there was a vanity and a tub/shower combo. Then off to the side was another small room with a toilet and walk in shower and a door to close it off from the vanity and tub/shower combo. If you’re not comfortable with the people you’re staying with, it might be a bit awkward for the person using the tub/shower combo. It’s got a curtain, not glass. So you cannot see the person….but still weird to have someone walk in the bathroom to use the walk in shower. 😉 it worked for us and we got ready a lot faster than usual! It might depend on who you’re traveling with if this setup would work for you.

With pre-teens that don't need boosters/carseats, I wouldn't plan on taking ART, I would just get a Lyft/Uber if you want to stay farther away. What we typically do when we stay at a hotel a little farther away is walk in the morning and then catch and Uber/Lyft from the Grand Californian (our preference) or Harbor (which tends to be chaotic but can be a shorter walk) back when we're feeling tired. You might also look at Suncoast, Home2Suites or Element. The Marriott and Westin would be more like "resorts" but these hotels are more modern feeling and still a decent walking distance away. The Homewood Suites by Toy Story was recently renovated, so it might feel newer than when the above poster stayed.

Most of the hotels with the DLR area are within a 20 minute walk. The hotels in Garden Grove (walkable) and Orange (walkable but not recommended) are 40.

Most often, it will take you more time to take the Toy Story bus and walk to the hotel, the. If you just walked there to begin with.

Besides the DLH and GCH, none of the hotels in the DLR-area are resort like. Most are carbon copies of business hotels, although some have nicer pool complexes.

I second the Hyatt Regency. Target is on the opposite corner, there's also a few restaurants on one of the other corners. Their shuttle is $6/day per person for all day use. (Price may have changed since I last stayed there.) Plus you're not stopping at other hotels like the ART shuttle would. I think they have service like every 15/30 mins depending on how many are running. The lobby restaurant is good and drink prices (at least the beer prices) are decent.
