Hotel @ DTD or Radisson Resort Parkway?

Hi everyone. We want to stay in Orlando for three days prior to a cruise and will most probably only be going to DTD (Disney Quest and a meal or two) and spending a day at the pool wherever we choose to stay. We've chosen DTD because we never seem to get there when we go south to do the "parks" -- we concentrate on the bigger amusements and have never had the time for outside water parks or the marketplace, etc.

Would you stay at a DTD hotel or the Radisson? Would it be a big deal driving from the Radisson to DTD. I'm only suggesting the Radisson because of the pool area (which is a priority for us if we are going to hang out there). Any suggestions, comments? Nothing is set in stone. I'm going with two 13 year olds and myself and thought I could probably drop them at Disney Quest and shop around a bit without dropping a fortune to watch them play video games.

Thanks for your help.

I was considering the Raddisson too but read some bad reviews on Travelocity about Security but maybe it has changed and their pool does look great but for us we would have to pay $15.00 extra a night for a rollaway...

we are considering HIFS...I did some research and most of the pools/hotels at DTD didn't seem to have anything great...

maybe someone else can suggest another hotel close by...

good luck let us know what you pick!!:D

I stayed 2 nights at the Radisson Resort Parkway in April 2002. I was very pleased with the location & quality of this hotel. I found the decor & furnishings to be very tasteful & the pool area is great.

Can someone tell me what the questions are as to security? I live right next door to this place and can't see where this is a problem. The gate next to my apartment complex is locked every night at sundown as is the side door leading to that parking lot. Hotel guest need to use their key for that door. Security rides around the hotel in a golf cart after hours and seem to be in the parking lot quite a bit. Actually one told me they run through it about every 30 minutes.

I also walked over one night (wanted Pizza hut and didn't want to wait for them to deliver...hotel has it in their deli) and decided to check out the conference area since the college I work for is thinking of hosting a small conference there and after I went out the side door, I notice that one was locked also and needed a hotel key to get back in.

So while I am sure that there are things that happen at the hotel, after all no place is 100% secure, the do look as if they take the security seriously.

And the pool area looks great.

We first stayed at the Radisson Resort Parkway about 5 years ago and loved it - however when we returned a few years later (about 2 years ago) it was a different story!!! We had paid and reserved a "pool view" room. When we arrived we were given a parking lot view and told it was all they had available! The room also only had 1 double bed and there were 3 of us (my DH, myself and my DD age 10). They said they would give us a "cot" for my DD. They brought in a folding bed with a really bad uncomfortable mattress. To make matters worse, the ice machines upstairs and downstairs were not working and people had to run to the bar to have them fill their ice buckets, and when we were moving furniture in our room to fit in the bed for our daughter - we found a large dead (thank goodness) cockroach!! Yes the pool is nice, but we will not be staying at this hotel again!!

Thanks E&M's mom. It seems most feel that the parking lots are not lit well enough and yes, I can see where that would be an issue with some. The lights are very spread out.

I am still leaning towards HIFS as I have read that don't have problems in that area just some of the food is just average and thats o.k. with us!!

We stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza @ DTD this past April and will be staying at the Radisson in November... we got the $63 rate through mousesavers... We really liked the Hotel Royal Plaza and I expect we will be happy at the Radisson... we always rent a car when in Disney, even when we stay onsite, so to us transportation is not an issue... we don't mind driving 10 minutes to the park...

Hookedondiz, I see that you mentioned that yall stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza. We will be there for 2 nights before going to the POR. How was it? THe rooms look really nice in the pictures. Just asking for another opinion.
