Hotel checkin to ask about requests…

I have called and added some requests to our hotel room ressie. When we arrive in Disney it will be right at park opening time so our plan is to go to HS, but I don’t care for not going to the hotel and “checking in”, just to see if they have our requests and all.

Is there a best way to do this? We are driving but hate to leave HS to go to the hotel and then back midday. I could try to call? Or wait to see if they send us a room number and then call? ( to do this do I have to check in on the app?? And does that mess up my chances for a room request?

Any other helps?

If you complete the Online Check-in then then you should receive a push notification from MDE with your assigned room number. You can check and see if matched your room requests. Reminder they are only requests and 1 or more may not be met. If you don't have notifications enabled in MDE or you just don't notice the message, you can always look in MDE at your resort details and it should also have your room number on your check-in day.

Note: There is no option to call your resort. When you complete the Online Check-in please don't select any of the limited requests as they will override your "Request(s)" attached to your reservation.

I would allow them to assign the room while you are at DHS. This would require doing online check in, but doing so does not affect whether your requests are fulfilled. Just skip the request portion of online check in so you don’t override the requests you already have in place. If you don’t like the location, you can go to the front desk when you return to the hotel and see if a more satisfactory room is available. Have a resort room map bookmarked on your phone so you will know where your assigned room is located.

If your room requests are the most important aspect of your trip, then taking the time to go to the resort and checking in in-person is your best bet. Keep in mind that requests are just that, a request. They may not be able to fulfill your request no matter how you check in.

I’d phone in my request, do online check-in, and list your arrival time for early in the day.

They often send out notifications on your arrival day stating something to the effect of, your room is not yet ready, but we’re working on it. It also says, for further questions, please call the front desk, and a phone number is listed.

I’d just go about my day at the park and check my email/text frequently to see if your room has been assigned or if you get the, we’re working on your room email. Then I’d call the number listed if necessary.

Whenever you arrive at the hotel after your time in DHS, swing by the front desk before going to your room to see if your request was honored. If it wasn’t they’ll be able to see if it can be.

Don’t waste time calling, you just get routed to central services.
THIS^

Calling is a waste of time. The rooms assignment is not in their control. You have to deal with it in person at the hotel. And the longer you wait in the day the less likely there will be open rooms with your requests. I would go to the park, then later in morning the room reservation lead take Disney transportation to hotel to check on it, then head back to meet up with the rest.

Agreed.

I would likely go to the park, then later in morning the room reservation lead take Disney transportation to hotel to check on it, then head back to meet up with the rest.
I would personally just leave a bit earlier in the morning, go to the resort before the park, and check instead of driving back and forth to the park.

They can give you a general idea if your requests have been met. But nothing is certain until you get your room number anyways.

I wondered about this…..going before but that would be like 7am-ish?

Yes if they processed your requests your room should be already assigned in the Resort system by 7 AM. Just ask the Front desk CM to confirm if your assigned room meets your requests.

Yep. You can still go and ask about your requests that early.
You might as well do that if you can.
To add to the great input from @Disneylover99 , @HopperFan , and @gottalovepluto . The earlier you check with the physical Front desk the more rooms that might already be availability might be very close or match your request(s). They also have more options available if your assigned room does not match your request(s) to find a room that might better meet your request(s).

You can also verify that your request(s) are listed on your reservation even if your room is not going to be available until after 3 PM. The Front desk will not provide you with a specific room number until your room is actually released by mousekeeping if it needs to be serviced.

Note: Requests are just that and not guaranteed or confirmed that you will be assigned to a room that meets 1, 2, or all your requests.

Thank you all! I don’t want to bug them at the front desk, but if it won’t be bugging them, I think it’s best that we swing by there before. 💕

Remember you are the paying Guest and they are there to assist you. Just don't try to go around 10-12 as they are often busy with guests checking and trying to resolve and issues with their resort folo charges.

You are not bugging them, but remember, if you have a lot of requests, the less likely you are to have all of them met. Don't set your expectations too high, the FD Cast will try, but they can't make a room become available out of thin air. The resort has to have a room departing on your arrival day that meets all of your asks. The smaller the resort, the more difficult it is because of less inventory. Another tip is to make sure what you are asking for is "included" in the room type you reserved. If you booked a resort view, don't request a castle view, it's not the category you paid for. And if it's a specific room, that is even less likely (not impossible, but don't get your hopes up). Get there early, and be willing to wait if needed, to get something close to meeting all your requests. And if it can't happen on arrival day and it's that important to you, ask about a room change later in your stay.

So, when someone doesn't like the room they have been assigned, for whatever reason, and they go to the front desk to ask for a different/better room, where is this supply of different/better rooms coming from? Is the complainer being given a room that was previously assigned to and intended for someone else who hasn't yet arrived? What happens if the complainer already entered the original room? Does housekeeping go back in to sanitize and inspect? It bothers me to think that if I arrive late multiple families may have already been inside my room checking to see if it met their satisfaction and then I arrive and get the rejected room. How does this actually work?

What hotel are you staying at? If one of the resorts on the skyliner route, it would be easy to just take the skyliner over to that resort, check in and then take the skyliner back to HS.

I believe once you enter the room, it’s yours. Otherwise I think they would send someone back in to sanitize. “Complainer” is kinda harsh if you are just following up on a specific room request. I understand they try to accommodate and if I let them know I don’t mind waiting on housekeeping to get a specific room ready - even into evening hours…those are the kinds of adjustments on a room I would think may happen. I don’t think it would be taken from someone it’s already been assigned to.

Sometimes there are simply just multiple rooms available to choose from. Sometimes there is zero availability to move. It depends on many factors such as resort capacity, a guests length of stay, etc…

Is the complainer being given a room that was previously assigned to and intended for someone else who hasn't yet arrived?
Possibly. That’s why your room is not officially your room until you get your room number. And it’s why they won’t tell you your room number before your room is ready.

What happens if the complainer already entered the original room? Does housekeeping go back in to sanitize and inspect? I think the majority of people who ask for a different room are not actually going into the room at all. It’s mostly because their requests weren’t met. So once they find out the building/floor/room number assigned to them, they may go directly to the front desk and check if there is something available on a different floor or in a different building etc….

I think the majority of people who do go into the room and then reject it, are doing it because of specific maintenance issues. Example, plumbing problem, air conditioner issues, or it just wasn’t cleaned properly (or at all). In which case, the room needs to be serviced before it can be given to anyone else.

So it’s not as if there are multiple families traipsing through your room before it finally gets assigned to you.
