Hotel Availabiltiy/Modifying Length of Stay

So we’re thinking of doing a split stay in October because my kids REALLY want to stay at the Wilderness Lodge for a few days however...

When I do a search for the 4d/3n we would need it doesn’t show any availability, however if I tack on a night at the beginning and a night at the end to make it 6d/5n it shows availability.

Can I book that 6d/5n online and then call in to the reservations customer service and have them adjust the dates as necessary? Wasn’t sure if you can modify the length of stay once it’s booked or not?
 
The standard line is that they stopped allowing you to drop nights off like that. That's not to say that sometimes you can't call and get someone to make an exception, but there's no guarantee.
 
Maybe. I would try calling first and see if you can book the nights you need.

As pp's said, it's possible but not guaranteed. In the past, you were able to drop nights as needed, but that was changed a couple years ago. Disney now requires the shorter stay to be available as if it was a new reservation. So while you are allowed to modify reservations, the nights you want/need must be available as if you were booking a new reservation. With that said, it never hurts to call and check. Good luck!
 

Yes- I have had to shorten my last two reservations by a day. Call- the CM will probably put you on hold to speak to a higher up who can do it for them. Good luck!
 
I did something similar for NYE. I wanted a room at the contemporary and could see it was available for longer but not for my shorter dates. Instead of booking and calling for help to drop dates I called before booking and had them work their magic to override the system.
 
Can always try and if it doesn't work just cancel the reservation and get the deposit refunded. I just had to shorten a reservation by a day because we wanted to do our last night at a different resort and the system let me do it without even calling. I feel like the harder option is to add the day than to drop it.
