I remember seeing the Black Angus sign on the way to/from WH. :( Apparently it's quite the traffic nightmare at the moment.

Traffic is a nightmare even up here in Reunion. Cars are being diverted up here and have no idea where they are--in CVS, three people in 5 minutes asked me how to get to Disney.

The hotel itself was definitely sketchy, low-rent with a lot of long-term guests. It looked out of place with the "new" west 192 that's been built over the last 5 years or so.

Kind of sad for a lot of those people.....the kids especially as it appeared part of it was being used as extended stay where lots of people land when they don't have anywhere else to go. We saw a school bus stopped there to pick up a bunch of kids when we were there end of May/1st part of July. Must have been 25+ kids out there at the bus stop. We passed it each day going to and from Disney from Westgate Vacation Villas Resort.

Lots of poor families with kids there, and also drug dealers, sex offenders, etc. I pity any family forced by finances to live there because it was an awful place. They moved the residents to a shelter in Celebration High School. I'm so sick of how the news here keeps reporting that it's near Animal Kingdom, with many claiming it's only a mile away. It's "near Animal Kingdom" in the same way that Port Orleans is near Downtown Disney. i.e. not a long drive but plenty more than a mile. The hotels that are truly near Animal Kingdom are down near 192 and 429. This one's at Old Lake Wilson Road, closer to I-4 and 192.

sorry if you go sherberth road - it is a mile to AK.

was this the old holiday inn or not?

If you were to go one light West on 192 and turn right on Sherberth, you are, indeed, about a mile from AK.

2.3 miles according to google, so it's both true that it's near AK, but more than a mile.

Definitely more than a mile, and I say that as a local who drives that way a lot in the summer to avoid the tourist traffic. I suspect the news is getting it from the hotel's website, which makes the mile claim, but they also claim that it's a totally newly renovated property so I wouldn't take what their site says too seriously. The electricity was turned off there several times recently for non-payment, including earlier this month, but I imagine most of the residents stuck it out because they had nowhere else to go.

If memory serves, this is the old Holiday Inn Nikki bird.

No it's not the old Holiday Inn, that's to the east at the next set of lights. Angels Seafood Buffet is located there.
This is basically behind the Ramada, sort of runs down Old Lake Wilson Rd but not really on the road.
