We are considering driving to Disney for a trip we have booked in August. We usually drive the I-75 route because we have been going down during March break. This time we are going to take I-95 if we decide not to fly. We are leaning towards driving because we really enjoy car trips, and we love having the extra space for luggage etc. in our van.
For those who have gone this way, we figure we can make it to at least Columbia on Day 1. We usually leave around 5:00 in the morning and take a few short stretch breaks along the way, in addition to lunch. Our kids are 12 and 14, and are good in the car, so we don't have any limitations that way.
Does anyone know of a good stopping point around Columbia? Our preference is a "suite" type hotel with two beds and a pullout sofa, but two beds and a roll-away would be fine as well. I think Columbia is the minimum distance we should target for Day 1, because we want to get to Pop by mid-afternoon the next day so we can hit a park that night. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
