We just found out that I might be having surgery at the end of June. We only live an hour from DL so we want to make a quick 2 night trip to DL around the second week of June if it turns out we have to schedule the surgery. But first we need to see if we can afford to do it. We haven't been since last June and I have a couple of hotel questions.

We are taking my 13 year old cousin with us so we will need either 2 rooms or a suite because it will be me, my parents and my cousin.

If we stay at Paradise Pier for 2 nights it would cost about $1100 for two rooms.

We have stayed at Tropicana Inn, HoJo and the Fairfield Inn before. We have hilton points that we want to use so we were looking at the Doubletree suites. We have enough points for 1 night so a 2rm suite would only be about $250 so we would be saving over $800.

Questions:
How far is the doubletree from DL?
Is the sleeper sofa comfortable? My parents would be in the living room and my cousin and I would be in the bedroom so I want to make sure my parents are comfortable
Are there any negatives with this hotel?

We have never had a bad stay at a Doubletree so we are pretty optimistic that it should be fine. We just want to make sure that it is a good choice.

The Double Tree I'm thinkin of is abt 1/2 mile south of DL at OrangeWood.
Aint no sofa-sleeper in this world that's comfortable. :sad2:

IF you go with this option bring an air bed to put on the sleeper sofa or floor.. this is what we do.

If it turns out that the Doubletree is too far for you to walk (check out the map & link below)...consider the Homewood Suites by Hilton. They have started charging a resort fee however, it now includes shuttle service to the parks.

I forgot to mention above that I mention the HS by Hilton because they have 1 BR + 2 BR suites.

What about the Embassy Suites South? Their one bedroom suite shuts off so there is a room with 2 beds and a room with a sleeper sofa. I slept on the sofa with my DH last trip and thought it was comfy. That trip we had 5 adults in the room and honestly it wasn't too cramped. We even had a table to eat at when we brought food back to the room. There is a second wetbar sink with mirror in the "living room" area which really helped with getting ready in the morning.

Plus they include a huge free breakfast. :thumbsup2

We are staying at the Homewood next month. I hadn't heard about the resort fee...do you know all the details? How much $ and is it per person or per room? And how often does the shuttle run?
Going to DL has been so much harder for me to plan than WDW...DH likes to know the $ budget down to the penny and I like to schedule our time to the minute...we're quite a pair, aren't we!
Thanks,
Mary

When I was looking to book last summer it was a new thing and I want to say it was $10-$12 per night. I just looked on their website and it no longer mentions the shuttle service or fees (except for $12 parking). I would suggest you give them a call.

I just looked on TA and I see mention of a shuttle fee now. So perhaps they decided to reinstate the parking fee and do away with the "resort fee" and only charge people for the shuttle service if they use it. Sorry for the initial scare. :)

Sorry for the initial scare. :)

No problem, thanks for making me aware of the possibility! I'm going to give them a call later this morning, I wanted to get the dining schedule anyway.
Thanks!!!

I slept on the sofa bed with my DD and can't remember it being uncomfortable... and I've slept on some pretty awful sofa beds! I definitely would've remembered if it wasn't comfortable.

I had no issues with this hotel. The warm cookies at check-in were a nice little surprise! ;) Room service was good as well.

HTH!
