I am torn on our trip next month. I have reservations at DLH, and we are supposed to be in a 2 bedroom suite with conceirge service, but I'm afraid that from everything I've been reading our rooms will be in a totally seperate tower from where the lounge is, and that would totally defeat the purpose of the service for us, especially for how expensive it is. Besides, it's not even the hotel we really want to be in, we wanted the GC, but we can't get rooms for when we were there.

I have been looking at the Good Neighbor Hotels and the Candy Cane Inn looks really nice. The nice thing is that even paying for two premium rooms, the price is still $1500+ cheaper than the DLH 2 bedroom suite. We will miss the ambiance and staying on site, which was a big positive for us since we have a baby and we wanted the convenience of being able to return to the hotel during the day if we needed to.

We intend on turning our tickets into AP's while we are there so I know that the kids and I will be returning throughout the year, and we will hopefully do one more big family trip towards the end of the ear, but I'm just not sure which way to go hotel-wise this time.

Any advice from those who have BTDT both ways?

Yep, Ive BTDT both ways and my vote is for the CCI. They have a dedicated shuttle that runs every 30 min, which makes it convenient to get back to the hotel for a nap. Use the money you save for an extra special character meal, a tour, or F! special dessert seating in the parks.

Wait until you have your AP and then watch for AP rates, then book your DLH experience, for much less money.

it is verry easy to return to good nabour hotles for brakes and cci is even easier with the shuttle. if you relly want to stay onsite wait till you have the aps and then look for there specials the ones for fall and winter are supose to come out in june or july thats what im waiting for.
we will probley end up just staying at desert inn in oct and then in dec ill plan my trip hopefully in the two weeks that the Ap specials will be like 179 a night or something

Very funny!

Jack

By the way, WELCOME

I realize I am totally new here, but I have to say that I don't think that is funny at all. I think it is just mean.

There are a lot of ways to get your point across- being nasty is generally less effective than wording your thoughts in a kinder way.

Thanks for the replies. And don't worry, I got the gist of what was being said, spelling aside. I'm really leaning toward doing the CCI and then later this year staying onsite with the AP discounts.

I have heard only amazingly great things about the concierge floors at DLH. Are you sure the lounge is in another tower? Call the hotel just to make sure. The convenience and great service are worth the wee bit of extra effort. I would really advise against moving from there if you've already made plans to be there.

OTOH, I've heard great things about the CCI and you will find the extra money comes in handy. Hee. The CCI is a good choice if you feel like you have to move.

I do not think you understood what I was trying to put forward. This NEW poster jumps in and starts with an inappropriate post. Many people can't spell, I am one. Many people do the best they can. Some text all the time and that is their world, some disabled, handicapped, etc.

I do not agree with a number of posters but I do listen to their point of view and for someone to knee jerk on a statement without asking what I meant, leaves alot to be desired. I could take off on this but it is not worth my time. I find JDS knowledge about a number of things very valuable and interesting whether we have librarians here or not.

Um, do I need to start another thread??

I honestly don't care about anyone's spelling, I understand what's being said. I am just trying to find out from all the experienced Disney goers, more about the DLH suites and conceirge service VS doing a GNH and staying onsite later. There are a lot of responses here, but only like 3 apply to the OP.

Okay, totally sorry-I didn't get the tone of your post at all. All I said was I didn't think the post about spelling was funny (nothing about you personally,) and nothing about so we obviously agree. I think we can all understand that inferring tone in a written post is a touchy thing, and it seemed like you actually (for whatever reason) meant what you actually wrote. (Which I truly didn't understand- I have a bad habit of defending people when they are being picked on that has caused me no end of trouble.)

I apologize for my misunderstanding- I was just taking your post at face value. As I said, we both feel the same way about the post. We just said it different ways, and I misinterpreted. :guilty:

(And sorry, Mindylovesmickey- didn't mean to take your thread here.) :(

Got a bit off track.

no you dont i will keep answering and ignoring the truly ingnerent.
I have been figuering it much better to go to a good naubor hotle. Desert inn is only 99 a night with jucziy tub our oct dates.

OP, just in case there are any AP rates for *this* trip that might help you (though I have not noticed anything astonishing for concierge), you CAN book an AP rate before you have the AP as long as you're going to upgrade that first day.

I've stayed off-site twice and I've stayed on-site once (as an adult), and I'll take OFF-site's value any day.

I bet if you timed it so you didn't have to wait for the CCI shuttle, it could take the same amount of time to walk to their shuttle pick-up and ride to CCI, as it would to walk to the DLH. Unless of course you're taking the monorail from Tomorrowland to DTD (yes, I know those are the only two stops, LOL), that might be shorter, but only if you're already in Tomorrowland! :)

Is there a moderator anywhere?!? Perhaps part of this thread could vanish?

Back to hotel question. You could always try for two interconnecting rooms in the tower you prefer, rather than a suite, and this may well save you money ayway. Maybe I missed the age of your children, but if they are young, then close is great.

Back to the original topic....
Mindylovesmickey - I am by no means an expert, but will be travelling to DL this spring with 3 little ones, so I've done lots of research on the "cheaper versus closer" hotel issue. We've decided that, for the extra $$$ staying onsite just wasn't worth it. By staying offsite, we are saving enough $ to possibly take a trip every year, whereas the cost of a week at an onsite resort would turn DL into a once every 5 year trip!
Lots of hotels are almost as close to the park as the onsite hotels (I know, it sounds weird, but it's true!!) We are staying in a suite at the Camelot inn right across the street for half the cost of a similar room in the DLH, and apparently the walking distance to each hotel from the park is almost the same! Since all our kids still nap in the pm, we'll be going back and forth to the hotel at least twice a day, but the walk, for us at least, is worth the cost savings.

All in all, I guess it depends on the experience you are looking for. There is probably more "magic" in staying onsite, however, it depends how much that magic is worth to you. either way, you'll have a fabulous time!

Camelot inn was grate to us but to me with every steap counting in the pain in my feet. this time were trying dessert in at no fault of camelots at all. They had a grate brekfest. there tub was perfect I like big tubs not small ones. They had a fridge and microwave. I had a trip report on here some where but ehh its far back by now from dec if you look

I'm truley leaning toward doing the CCI and since we are getting our AP's (probably won't upgrade until the last day), I know we will be back several times, and we may do one of the holidays there and we'll get our chance to stay onsite at some point, and it will help when we don't have an extra adult to contend with.

Does anyone know if the offsite hotel shuttles accomodate the handicapped (i.e., are wheelchair/ECV accessible?) Thanks!
