It's taken a long time for spring to arrive here in the Bluegrass State, so the idea of August/September heat--even WDW heat--actually sounds appealing. :)

My husband and I were sitting asking the same question last year this time. We live in NJ and neither of us like the heat. We DID take the free dining and went down 8/24-9/3. It was VERY hot. But it was awesome having free dining, and we would have done it again this year if the dates fit better with our kids school starting. So from our perspective, it was definately worth the heat to get the free dining.

Last year it was sweltering the last week in Sept. but going back to the resort pool from 2-4pm then off for a free dinner I can't wait to swelter this Sept.
:cool1: :hippie:

Yes, it is worth it. Plan your meals accordingly and get out of the heat and get a good meal for free. :cool1:

YES!!!!! When we went a couple of years ago we brought little fans with us for when we were standing in line or to cool off our son. It made the heat much more bearable. The restaurants are air conditioned so take advantage of a nice long FREE lunch before heading back out in the heat. It's a nice break.

I think it depends on what part of the country you are from. I was born and raised in AL, and I remember going running in the 100 degree heat last August very well! But I'm used to heat and humity, so I'm already planning on cute ways to wear my hair to beat the frizz factor during September!

For me and DH, this is the best deal of the year and the only way we can afford a 9 day Disney vacation at this time. Yes, it is definitely worth it for us. Just bring a lot of tank tops!

Hello Praying Colonel, Sgt. Parker says hello! We missed you at POP last year. Hope you had fun.

We are going August 30th-September 6th 2008 7 nights at the POP with 2 connecting rooms.
:thumbsup2

For my family we'd save about $600 using free DDP for a week and paying rack rate at AKL. That's about the same as what we're saving using the public room discount in May. So for us, no. If we were saving $1500, maybe...but we're a family of 3, so that will never be the case for us. Is it $1500 compared to rack rate for everything? Because there are other room discounts throughout the year, or you can often get AAA discounts that make the difference less.

I'd rather pay a bit more and go on vacation when I want to go then have to settle for a time of year I don't necessarily want to go because of the free food, but that's just my opinion. Others feel differently. That's why the DIS is such a great place!

We think so - Our first trip was Free Dining in Sept 2006. Loved it! Yes it was extremely hot & humid. Worst was waiting for the bus at Pop in the morning in the full sun. But the parks and lines were practically empty! restaurants were full.. never could figure out where the people went after eating! LOL
The heat forced to take afternoon breaks at the hotel pool which was quite relaxing.
We love Free Dining!

Will you be there this year for free dining? If you are, what week are you going?

I wish we could, but unfortunately DD18 starts college the first week of free dining. We went last year without her, but it just wasn't the same. :sad1:

DaParkers, glad to hear from you, and hope all is well with you and your family.

Hot weather sounds good this time around, we often go when it is colder and never really do the water rides or water parks, so free dining is the definate bonus!

It wasn't all that hot last year in September. As a matter of fact the week that we were there it rained off and on so it stayed overcast and breezy.

I was great!:goodvibes

We went last year - last week of September (no free dining- we just missed it b/c of dh's work schedule) but I didn't think the heat was that bad. I am from TN though, so by September I'm just used to the heat and humidity. Also, heat is a lot worse if you are waiting in long lines, which we didn't have to do in September (if the wait was longer than 15-20 minutes we got fastpasses - NEVER waited longer than 20 minutes for anything!) We are going back this September, but you have to do what's best for your brood...money isn't everything!

Not for me. Late August/September is perhaps the one time of year that Michigan is more pleasant than Florida. Every year, I book FD. Every year, I cancel it because we decide to stick closer to home. This year, I didn't even make the booking, because I already know the answer.

We wouldn't mind being in WDW during those dog-day summer sun at all. We only wish that the Free Dining can be offered 2 weeks earlier. Our friends' teens are heading off to college late August, so all bets are against the timing. We decided to go in July (paying for Deluxe DDP with 5 teenagers who could eat non-stop throughout the day/night) The weather in July and August aren't that bad. We welcome the predictable afternoon thunderstorms to cool off.:sunny:

This will be my third year in a row for free dining and hot August weather. It is worth it for my family. As others have said, bring the squirty water mist bottle to cool off and get to the air conditioned attractions. It really isn't that bad. Many of the lines for the attrations are inside. You will be able to rest inside with the A/C while eating your two free meals each day.

we've done free dining twice now in september, once in october - all 3 trips were during very hot, humid, rainy, sweltering times - DH was miserable, so no, we won't do it again, not even for free
