ok settle in, there are going to be a lot of stupid questions in the next few weeks as we get into our new house and get used to new things.

Good thing: They are leaving the hot tub
Bad thing: We've never had a hot tub ( do you see where this is going?)

So anyone want to give a hot tub 101 lesson. Do we use chemicals like in the pool? ( THAT we know about  ) It has a nice cover and everything on it but I dont know much about the maintainence. I know I could go to a store and ask but come on, this is the Dis, you guys know EVERYTHING!!! :)

MIL has one and basically you test the water and it will tell you wich chemicals it is lacking or too high.
Other then that theres not much more to it.
I hope you enjoy it!

I know there are a few different types of chemicals that hot tubs can use. I don not know if it dpends on the type of HT or owner prefference. I also think the types of chemicals can not be mixed. You'll need to ask the owners about the chemicals they use.

You basically treat it just like a pool. Chlorine, ph balancing chemicals are the most common substances, just in much smaller amounts. There a chemical line designed just for hot tubs. You have to be diligent with keeping up with it. That warm water will grow yucky stuff REAL quick if you don't keep up with it.

Do not keep it at more than 102 degrees. Over that will burn your motor out real quick and they are horrid to replace. 102 is a good temp for year round. Some people like it a little less than 102 but we have found that is good for us.

The tub should be drained about every 6 months and scrubbed down. We pretty much do it twice a year. If we have parties and more people are in it, we do it more often.

We also keep it covered when not in use

I've had one for about 20 years now (had about 5 over the 20 years) and find they are very easy to keep up with. The last one we got is a little smaller than the others. This one sits about 8 people comfortably. We found that we didn't need a large one for now.

What kind is it? We still have ours, we brought it with us and it's up and running! If you have any questions you can always PM or email me, I'll be glad to help! We got ours at Custom Pool and Spa on Chinden and they will test your water there and tell you exactly what you need to add and we bought our chemicals there too. You can buy water testers for weekly use, but it's nice to have a professional water test done monthly (it's free). They test for more stuff than the little at home test kits can. And they print off exactly how much you need of what. You are gonna love it!

Thanks guys :)

D, I have no idea what kind it is, they said its a top of line extra deep one LOL after that it all became "blah blah blah" because I didnt understand it :confused3 :rotfl2: OK place on Chinden, got it, thanks.

I dont plan on moving it if we ever leave this house. After watching you guys struggle LOL. Im going to call your mover guy Monday to get a quote from him too. Hopefully they wont be sick this time

ummmmm where and how does one drain a hot tub? Im going to assume there should be a drain nearby? Not that there is or isnt I have no idea, I didt look that close.

See? I told you to settle in for stupid questions more to follow, Im sure!
