I'm curious about other's thoughts with various medical conditions that make them decide to wear a t-shirt while in the pools & hot tubs.

Due to transplants and the like, I have an amazing collection of zipper scars (medical staple), not to mention feet that end in stubs just past the ankles. I'm torn between covering up in the pool and the perceived silly look of swimming in a t-shirt.

I don't notice what other people wear at the pool/hot tub but if it makes you more comfortable just do it. However, maybe look at a rash guard/swim shirt. I am fair skinned and wear one to the pool/beach all the time as do several of my friends.

Many people like to cover up in the pool. For many different reasons, some for more personal reasons (ie.image), to medical reasons, to not wanting to burn.

If you need to wear a tee, or feel more comfortable that way, then by all means go for it! Go enjoy the trip and don't worry about what someone may think of you wearing the tee:thumbsup2

Just a personal opinion obviously, but in my book there is no need to cover up just because one happens to have scars or whatever.

If there's a medical need; by all means DO it and don't even reconsider it. Health is what counts over what others might or might not think.

If it's something you are poundering out of emotions, esthetics or any of the alikes; stop it and never allow yourself to be limited just because of something that is and you can not change. It's time and energy wasted that you can very well spent on nicer things. :)

Personal experience? I do not cover up antyhing for anybody. Have a nice collection of scars that continues to grow, got a urinostomy, PEG-tube, one finger amputated and some more but no way I will cover up. Nothing to be ashamed of what so ever. I'll use waterproof adhesives to keep the PEG in place and patch of the urinostomy but the adhesives that works the best for me are see through. Coulnd't care less. Most folks don't even realise, can't quite put together what they just noticed, if they noticed anything to begin with and so yes; what it was. Can be nice entertainment when bored out of my mind. ;) The only moments of covering up are when medically needed, like with a new scar. Not that it would help a lot since I'll only cover up the scar itself and the covering of that tends to just result in people going "ahhhhhhhh something going on, let's have a closer look". All in all I am a firm believer in going with what works for me. Constantly investing time and energy in covering up is a waste of both for me. What others might or might not think about that is their problem. People will always find something to have an opinion about, even when they don't have an opinion. So let's give them something to be opinionated about.

I wear a T-shirt because I SCORCH. I've never felt uncomfortable or been looked at strangely for doing so. I do not think you *need* to wear one to cover scars, but if it would make you more confident, go right ahead!

No problems on this end with wearing a T in the pool. Don't like to look older then I am, or wish to appear.

I agree, do what feels comfortable to you.

A rash shirt or a white tee shirt may be a better choice than a brightly colored one since some bright colored cotton fabric do run if wet.

Hubs wears one of those rash guards (like surfers wear) with his swim trunks- it works out just fine! I don't remember where I got it for him- I think it was from Lands End maybe? It's red and black, and matches his red swim trunks.

My whole family wears rash guards because we are very fair. I had one blistering burn as a child and don't ever want that to happen to them. Don't worry about wearing a shirt if it makes you feel more comfortable. Also, don't worry about your scars you're not the only one who has them.

we live in Fl and my son is 19 Autistic/ Epileptic. He wears a white tank top/ t shirt in the pool and I slather him with sunscreen on his face ears back of neck etc. He wears the shirt because his Seizure meds can cause him to burn. the shirt also helps keep him cool if he gets out of the water for abit , which he does. I could care less what people say/ think. I do what I need to do for him and you do the same for yourself. whatever makes you comfy so you can enjoy yourself. :goodvibes

I wear sun protective clothing much of the time. I don't do pools outside unless it is evening because I stay out of the sun. If I were to go in a pool during the day, I would have no problem covering up. My health is my priority.....I really don't care what others think.

This is me too. I have about 10 min before I start to sunburn at the pool or beach. I see lots of people wearing rash guard shirts and the like. I always figure they're just trying to avoid a sunburn.

My whole family wears rashguard shirts. It's so much better than burning. And they dry really quickly and don't stretch out or look misshapen.

Do what ever make you the most comfortable! Lots of people wear shirts in the water for many different reason, so I doubt anyone would blink an eye to you wearing a shirt in the pool or hot tub. Just remember, you will never seen any of those people again, so who cares what they think! :)

Do what works for you! Many wear T's,
and we actually saw a gentleman and his family at the resort who also had 1 amputation at his ankle...and he was just doing his thing..in and out of the water.....God Bless Him I say and To you too.
Enjoy Your vacation and remember...
youll never see these people again anyway ...who cares what they think....wishing you all a MAGICAL trip........ :wizard:

Just came back yesterday and there were a ton of people covered up in the pool. There was even a young woman with what I'm assuming was clubbed feet and had socks on in the hot tub. It was not a big deal to anyone. The important thing is that you feel comfortable. Go and enjoy!:goodvibes

My son wears a rash guard to protect his scars from the sun. I wear one because he wears one. We swim in public pools and at beaches regularly and we see lots and lots of people wearing regular shirts and rash guards, I don't feel like we stand out at all.
