I am new to Hot Fix, but I have not been able to find Swarovski crystals locally.
The local JoAnns has some loose hot fix crystals, but I think they are from Tulip. I have used a number of regular Iron-on motif's using a regular household iron. But I did buy a hot fix iron to used for the loose crystals.
I have purchased my loose crystals online...seach hot fix queen.
I have been pleased with the prices...although they don't seem to have all the colors that are out there. But they have free shipping on loose crystals.
The other place I have worked with is Sue's Sparklers. I haven't ordered things from them yet, but I have purchased several motifs from them at the Sew Expo.
If you are considering a hot fix iron....I got the Kandi Kane professional. I am still learning how to use it, but I have learned that it helps to make sure your tip size matches your crystal size...my iron came with 144 crystals, but they didn't match any of the tip sizes that came with the iron, so I ended up using the flat tip and placing each piece by hand, then putting the iron on it.
Actually that technique has worked better for me than anything else.
The only thing I really need is one of those small wire brushes for cleaning the iron. I have been surprised at how many times the crystals get stuck on/in the hot fix iron tip.
Ok, that was way more info than you wanted sorry

And I don't think I even answered you question... oops.
I think it might be hard to use a full size iron....I would be concerned about scorching the fabric....maybe try it on some extra fabric first.
Good luck, its fun and a little bit addictive.
