Hot Dog, Hot Dog, Hot Diggity Dog! LINK TO TRIP REPORT!!!

Today we decided we needed to get out the house and enjoy ourselves a bit. The crazy, awful next door neighbors have been in and out of their house (and driveway) quite a bit, so its been hard for me to ignore them. They don't speak to us or even acknowledge us (its to a point where I will call the police if they speak to me), but I hate even seeing them.

So we took Max to Old Sturbridge Village, a "living" history museum. We have a membership and its one of the few places that we can go that I think is worth the money... or maybe I'm just that much of a history nerd!

Since I recently destroyed yet another cheap, point and shoot camera, I have no pictures, but we had a very nice day. Max was very good and really enjoyed himself. He even held his first frog that we found out on a nature path.

Afterwards, we went over to the mall with the Disneystore. :cool1: We got dinner and then let Max peruse the store. He has recently developed a love for the movie "Cars" and was all over the stuffed Mater they had. :scared1: The last thing this boy needs is more stuffed animals! He hosted his own character breakfast here at home the other day, with all of his Disney (and a few non-Disney) pals seated around the table! :rotfl:

I just cannot wait to see his face the first time he sees a character, LIVE AND IN PERSON!

We took out older kids to Old Sturbridge Village when they were little, in June 1999. We had a great time! I love places like that. One year, we went to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown 4 times!!! lol At least I live in VA, so that was only a 3 1/2 hour drive.

I just want to softly warn you that Max may be afraid of the characters when he sees them so "big"! That happened to my daughters, both of them, when they were between 2 and 3. They don't realize how big they are, they think they're stuffed animal size... then there they are... and it scares them. Make sure he knows they're really big! :)

Sounds like a wonderful day. As many things we do have to do in this area, we don't have anything like that. (that I am aware of)

Very cute that your son had his own character breakfast.

hey there...I'm reading your Pre trip...your son can read????????? I try so hard to read books to my son and he just takes them from me..I almost thought about buying your baby can read dvds..I read at 3 too, and my son will be three next year ;(

its funny how you said your son is into Mickey Mouse clubhouse now..huh, I think my son outgrew it... :( he does still love MIckey mouse, donald and goofy, but as far as cartoons, he doesn't really watch them anymore...

and I read about your neighbors? really????? wow I don't know what I would've don in that situation. I would've really been PO'd.

and yes pre-trip reports are like therapy..and it helps pass the time till the big day.

I live in Florida so I got to do disney like 20 times last year...and I really don't care about whether my son remembers or not..its just soimething fun to do and I get enjoyment out of it too...

I love the character meals. Crystal Palace is my favorite!!! well I'm going to try and finish reading..the red font was hurting my eyes lol

Love it...how very cute. He is going to have a blast with the characters (and you better let your hubby use the camera ;)).

I'm really enjoying your PTR plans! We are going back in May of 2011 and I want to start up our PTR soon too! We went for the first time in May of 09 and were going to back this sept but had to cancel. I'm very happy to be going back in May. We loved the weather, low 90s and the crowds were pretty low! I know what you mean by wanting to go at the time you usually go. I am much happier that we are going in May as opposed to september. It's just our time for disney i guess!

Your son is so cute. And i'm sure he will be soooo excited to see all of the characters. I couldn't wait to get my kids to Disney to see the characters. It was great!
My mother was supposed to come with us when we went to but also decided against it. At first I was bummed, but we had a great trip with just me dh and the kids.

I loved Max's mickey cake and all of his toy story 3 toys. We went to see the movie and then the kids had to have the toys too. They all got disney gift cards for their bdays so we went and bought a huge stuffed lotso, ken and barbie, slinky dog, woody, jessie and bullseye. We are stocked with them too.! I love Toy story. for our first trip we stayed at all star movies so we could stay in the toy story section.

Another new reader here!!! :cool1:

So i think I may have to have my husband read your PTR, then maybe he won't think I am so crazy!! I swear, I could have written half the stuff you have! Great minds think alike :rotfl:

We are in the process of buying into DVC with BWV as our home resort, despite living about an hour from some of the best boardwalks in the world, we just love that Epcot hotels. We stayed at the Swan last year and it was fabulous! We had our 18month old son with us and were afraid it wasn't "Disney enough" but it was just wonderful.

And if it makes you feel any better, I am sort of kind of planning our next trip already but it won't be till Dec...2011!!!! We have another little guy on the way so no trips for us till then.

ANd finally, I made my son a Lightening McQueen cake for his birthday this year, looked fabulous if I do say so myself:laughing: No one believed I had actually made it but it I was so proud that I was able to do something special for my little guy. Your cake was beautiful and I am glad he loved it!!!

Ok, keep the updates coming!!!

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind when we're there.

:welcome: Did I imply my son can read somewhere in here? :lmao: He has memorized certain books and loves to sit with them and be read to, but he isn't actually reading yet. He's only just turned three. That would be amazing, though. I keep hoping, as I taught myself how to read before kindergarten.

Lucky you for living in Florida. I dream of it sometimes, and not just for the Disney stuff, either. And sorry about the red font, didn't even occur to me that it could be bothersome.

Love it...how very cute. He is going to have a blast with the characters (and you better let your hubby use the camera ;)).

Kathy, actually it was my husband who messed up the last camera, even if he won't admit it. When we were last at the beach, he threw into a big beach bag with an open, partially finished juice box and well... yeah, it hasn't been the same since. :scared1:

Hi and :welcome: to you, as well! Its amazing the things we'll do for our kids. Had Max's birthday been a few weeks later, it could have been a Lightening McQueen cake, as Max is really into Cars right now.

WOW. My little PTR had quite a day today. Love new readers and comments from everyone. So much fun. :goodvibes

So that brings us up to Tuesday, day four of our trip. We'll be heading to Animal Kingdom for an early breakfast ADR at Tusker House. Max loves Donald and I've heard that this is the only meal that Daisy shows up to. :confused3 Max actually picked out a stuffed Daisy at the Disney store. I think he has a little crush.

After breakfast, we'll head over to the safari. I have to say that I don't know a whole lot about AK because my husband and I did not spend much time there on our last trip. We went for evening EMHs, were dog tired and stressed out, and I decided it would be a good idea to spend an hour and a half in line for Expedition Everest. What we should have done was head straight to the safari area and then gone to EE after. Oh well. Live and learn, right?

After we're done there, we can go to Its a Bug's Life, which I'm sure Max will love. Mark and I thought it was pretty cool (and a little scary) when we were there. After that we can maybe head to Dinoland, which we completely missed on our last trip.

Then I want to head over to EE and check for any remaining FP's or the single rider line. If I can swing the single rider line, I'll ride EE, if not, well, then I won't. :rotfl:

We can grab some snacks/lunch at the Yak and Yeti CS, where we had what I thought might have been the single greatest use of a snack credit in the form of yummy egg rolls. And I would like to finish our time at AK with the Nemo show.

Phew! That seems like a lot! Don't know what we'll accomplish.

That evening the plan is to go to the California Grill for dinner. I know that some people might think I'm crazy to take a three year old there. But here's my rationale... From the second we walked up to the reservations desk at the CR to check in for our 7:30 ADR, it was magical. They were the first CMs to catch that we were celebrating our anniversary and insisted on giving us buttons, which we wore the rest of the trip and LOVED. We were then brought upstairs and had a drink at the bar and a nice chat with the bartender. We were then brought to our table, which made me cry and actually ask the host if this was really our table??? Because, yes, we were seated directly in front of a full, floor to ceiling window directly in view of the castle! I tried to take pictures of this...and failed. Our table was covered with Mickey confetti and our menus were specially printed. I know we didn't get anything super special, but, boy did it feel like we did! And, then, to see Wishes at 8, from our table!!!! It was just so amazing and special.

Oh, yeah, and the food was pretty awesome, too.

That flatbread was just about the most yummy thing I've ever tasted. In fact, I think my mouth is watering now.

Before anyone says, well, yes, but you'll be with a three year old this time! I know. I am fully aware of this. We'll have an earlier ADR, I'm thinking six would be perfect. I also want to pay OOP so we can enjoy the parts of the menu we really enjoy (the flatbreads, the sushi, possibly some salads) and skip the entress, which, while they were delicious, I didn't love quite as much as the aforementioned flatbread. I would have loved to have gotten two, in fact. That's how much I loved them. We also enjoyed our desserts, but I find way too often with Disney meals that by the time dessert rolls around, I'm way to full to enjoy it.

We shall see. I am watching to see how Max's table manners improve. He's generally pretty good and is getting some solid dining out practice, but I want to be sure. He also likes going out to restaurants. I also know that if he were to act up, one of us could always take him for a walk, or we would cut our meal short. In fact, if he didn't seem up to it that night, we could skip it entirely. I think I will likely make the ADR, regardless, though, as I really want to go back. :yay:

Hopefully, just as we're finishing up, we can catch Wishes. From there, we can head back for another restful night at CSR.

I love AK..my son loves AK...I have had better experience with the safari ride at the end of the day...especially if its cloudy. I've done that ride first thing in the morning and middle of afternoon and close to closing I saw the most animals in the evening , I actually saw the infamous lion and lioness.

I love Tuskar House...they do a parade with these african maracas during the breakfast its pretty cute...the Jumba juice is good..at least that's what I think its called.

Did you catch the Festival of The Lion King? Must see show!

The Nemo show is LOOONGG...my son has fallen asleep during it twice...so I stopped going.

oh and there's these african drum players that show up in front of Tuskar and they are very fun to watch and they get the crowd involved.

and maybe you know this already but try to catch "Divine"..she walks in between Africa and Asia...and along the trail to the left you will find "Turk", "King Louie" i think he's a hit or miss, and sometimes you will see "Flik".

Baloo, Rafiki, and Timon are in the front of the park before you enter the park IN THE MORNING...I have yet to get my son to meet TImon.

Then Rafiki's Planet, Jiminiy Cricket and POcahontas and Rafiki are there. and they have a petting zoo (goats) and a animal hospital.

oh and also the bird show is way cool (in asia)

I think they might still have this open, rightr before you go over the small bridge to camp mickey and minnie, there's a play area, I forget what its call but they open this up in the summer and not sure how long they keep it opne, but Pocahontas comes out and reads a book, and Meeko, Koda, Keena wow I forgot his name....the brother bears, lol and chip and dale come out to play with your kids...when I went last year, and it was opened my son played like an hour in there it was nice. they were real fun.

sometimes in camp mickey and minnie, Thumper and his girlfriend is there gosh whats her name.

sorry for the long post, but like I said we love AK!

and don't worry about taking your 3yr old to cali grill..man my son has gone with me to every restaurant...its your vacation, if he gets fussy, you can always take him away from the table...I just bring a lot of stuff to entertain my 2yr old with.

As MommaMouse411 indicated, you must look for Divine...you will be totally amazed by her. We've not done the Festival of the Lion King or the Nemo shows, but we are definitely going to do one of them this year since Mark won't be able to do Dinosaur or Everest this trip.

Thanks for the AK input! I really appreciate it. Like I said, my husband and I just missed so much at AK last year. :sad2:

My husband and I have been kind of desperate to get out of our house this summer. We are so close to our crazy neighbors next door that I hate even hearing them on their back patio, so we haven't spent much time outside. :sad2: I just feel better when we're not here. Its crazy, I know... but we have gotten rather resourceful at finding things to do.

First, though, a couple of pictures of Max's self-created "character breakfast."

It sort of looks more like a meeting..

Have to make sure that Goofy has plenty to eat!

Yesterday we took Max to his first-ever amusement park, which was fitting because it was mine, too. Lake Compounce is about twenty minutes away and is a small, independently-run, park on a lake. It is also recognized as the oldest theme park in the country. It is acutally kind of nice, albeit small. While there is no comparison to Disney, it is clean, sort of pretty, surrounded by trees and a lake, and not very busy...which makes me wonder how they stay open, but... They just don't have the huge thrill rides to compete with the local Six Flags that's only about forty-five minutes north.

I told Max that we were going to a park with rides and he seemed to really be into that idea.

Here's the entrance:
CIMG0058.jpg

We went directly to the kiddie area so that Max could ride some rides quickly. There no lines and no waiting!

He's the only kid on this ride!
CIMG0063.jpg

On the train..
CIMG0071.jpg

His favorite ride was the baby bumper cars. He laughed hysterically everytime he got hit, or he hit someone, or something, else.
CIMG0082.jpg

He was less impressed by the swings.
CIMG0086.jpg

They had a really cute car ride on a track. Max rode twice, once with Daddy and once with Mommy...I swear he's in the car!
CIMG0089.jpg

View from the top of the ferris wheel.
CIMG0095.jpg

Max, on the boat across the lake.
CIMG0103.jpg

Approaching the shore.
CIMG0105.jpg

We really had a great day. I wish that Max was about an inch taller, though, as his height kept us off a lot of the "family" rides, such as the log flume, the rapids ride, and even the mini roller-coaster. I think I might have to accept that Max will probably not be forty inches tall by February! :scared1:

Max was very well behaved and didn't mind waiting in the (small) lines we had to a few times. They have one ride where you are taken through a scary, haunted house and shoot at ghosts from your car (sort of like TSM in HS, but not anywhere near as cool). It was dark and I could see how a lot of kids might be scared, but Max wasn't phased in the least. So... Haunted Mansion...HERE WE COME! :goodvibes

The park really was nice and depending on where we're at next summer, I might even get season passes, which are relatively inexpensive. I was impressed by how clean everything was, how nice the people who worked there were, and by how (relatively) inexpensive food was.

But...again...just can't wait to get to Disneyworld!

I think Max is going to be absolutely fine at Disney World. In fact, I think he'll do great. And, don't give up...he may grow that inch by February. :)

P.S. LOVE the impromptu character meal.

Thanks, Kathy. I think he'll be fine, too. And...unfortunately, Max needs to grow five inches before February! :scared1: If it were only an inch, we'd be all set! He's short for his age, not unlike his mom...or his dad, for that matter. Just dont tell his dad that...Mark thinks he's "average." :rotfl:

I promise not to tell Mark. I have my "own" Mark who thinks he's "average" too. :rotfl2:

I was talking to my mother tonight and told her that I would put an intinerary together based on her and my father joining us. Here, I will begin...

This assumes that we all go together and stay in a one bedroom at Bay Lake Tower!

Flight from Bradley at 8:00 a.m.

Delta seems to have a flight out of Hartford around this time every day; we took it last February and it worked out very well for us. We don't have to leave too early (we're less than an hour away from the airport), but we still hit the world before noon! :thumbsup2

Arrive at MCO at 11:00 a.m.
Pick up luggage from baggage claim.
Walk to Magical Express.

Take Magical Express bus to the Contemporary...Max is going to love the videos with Mickey and the gang. It is true that the magic really does start right away.

Check in at approximately 1:00 p.m. It is at this point that I will just about die if we do really stay at the Contemporary!

We will then unpack and get settled in our suite. Hopefully, we will be able to get Max to take a nap so he can make it through th evening I have planned.

At around four, we will walk to CR to catch the monorail to EPCOT, mine and Mark's favorite park. I want to make sure we take Max to a character meal the first night and while Chef Mickey's would seem the obvious choice, I want to get to EPCOT that first night...althouh as I write this, I realize that perhaps that will be a little too ambitious?

If there is time once we get to EPCOT, we will ride Spaceship Earth and/or Finding nemo, if there's time before our ADR at Garden Grill.

After that, we might do Living with the Land and check out Soarin'...though I fully realize the likelihood of getting near Soarin' is slim to none. :rotfl:

We can then do some touring aorund World Showcase and then catch Illuminations!

Why am I thinking that I need to change this around completely??? Oh, yes, because I'm bringing my three year-old son and my Dad, that's why! :thumbsup2

Check out Jet Blue out of Bradley...they are quoting thru Feb and I got nonstop for $84 at 8:40 am We are going Jan 29-Feb 5. Love your PTR so far and hope your trip is Magical. We are travelling with my DD and her family which includes a 2yr old boy! :yay:We are sure he will not remember it all but we go every 2 years and he will hear the stories and see the pictures. If your Dad goes rent him an ECV that is what I do. Better for everyone!
