Wouldn't it be nice if there was one of these at each resort?

A closet for putting our unused and unopened items that we can't (or don't want to) take home.

We left so much unopened food and also some laundry soap and bounce. Just such a waste.

I feel bad about not being able to take it, and I've read that the amount that mousekeeping has to throw away is unbelieveable.

I know this will probably NEVER happen, but it would be nice.

Something like this would be nice. We have left things in the fridge and left notes for mousekeeping to help themselves. Of course they are items like unopened sticks of butter, eggs, etc. I think we may have even left a few frozen things, too. On the flipside...I am not sure I would want to eat anybodys leftovers unless they were sealed. But to bring home 3/4 bottles of syrup or mayo is ridiculous!

I agree!!

I wouldn't touch anyones leftovers, neither would mousekeeping. Just unopened nonperishables.

I think thats the whole reason there aren't salt & pepper shakers in the rooms. Sad, but just too dangerous for some lunatics.

in the same vein, wouldn't a paperback book exchange spot be nice? I could leave my used ones and pick up something else to read! I know they probably won't do it because they sell books in the stores, but it sure would be a nice thing!

On our last trip, I left laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets in the laundry room with a note which read, "Help Yourself!" There was half a bottle of detergent so I'm sure at least one family was able to wash their clothes for free.

It would be nice if there was a place where we could leave these types of items. I like the idea of a book exchange too. Annmarie

The bellman was thrilled with the 2 unopened bottles of soda, unopene micro. popcorn and unopened bag of pretzels I gave him for the breakroom. He said they appreciated the snacks and usually share them there if they are offered by the guests. He was reluctant to take a tip, since I had in his words "already given so much" Interestingly, unopened liquior is supposed to be turned into management. I told him I didn't notice any wine coolers being left behind:smooth:

If there was a service that allowed us to store non-perishable items and clothing for future trips -would you use it?

I'm aware of the possibility of such a storage facility becoming available for DVC members to use. The service might even provide storage and pick-up/delivery service for those interested.

I'd leave clothing and non-perishable food items in storage and have them delivered to my resort on each trip- thus saving room in luggage for the trip down.

Does this interest you?

Its not the trip down thats a problem for me its the trip back.

Just back this afternoon by the way.

We left with 6 bags and came back with 10! Even had to buy a new Diney Duffle bag. All those souvenirs that you just can't get at home.

I'll bite...a perk or a service. If a perk, I would definetly go for it. If a service, I would have to weigh the cost vs. value of items and convienience.

Not likely a perk, but a value added service paid for by those who would use it.

a storage locker..... really..... With 70,000 plus memebers that would take up a lot of space... Or there would be so few of them, the demand so high... they would be harder to get than Cindy's breakfast PS's...

I do like the idea of non perishables being donated. I know we often leave a lot behind.

How about letting the local food pantry or homeless shelter come on site and collect the unusables? I don't think a barrel in the hallway will do but maybe a 'slot' like the ones for video returns where you can only deposit the items. This would be better than letting the food go to waste...

I've often commented to my DH that I would love to "rent" a small amount of space (footlocker or rubbermaid tote sized) to leave on property. It would be so much easier not to have to pack certain things that we only use when at WDW. This type of service is something I would definately be interested in. To be able to store a few small appliances like a crock pot, some clothing, brita waterbottles, and non-perishable foods (nothing worse than leaving it behind or lugging it back when you know you're returning in a month or two).
As a service rather than a perk, there might not be as much demand. So long as the price was fair, I wouldn't mind paying for it.

That sounds great. But not all of us are like Doc and go down to OKW once a month!!! I try for 2x/year if I am lucky!! I think it would be good to have a room (like the housekeeping rooms outside the OKW villas) that have these unperishables or laundry supplies, shampoo/conditioner, etc. where you could go and get what you need. Then when you are ready to leave, replenish with what you have leftover. But, I am sure there would be those who would abuse this and take advantage of this. JMHO.

When we have unopened foodstuffs, we usually go looking for someone who might want them at the resort. It has always been pretty easy at OKW. THis last trip, we only had opened stuff left, so we either chucked it or left things like coffee etc. in the villa.

Love the foodshelf idea. And if some DVC members would want to dig through it before it got picked up by charity, that would be fine, too. The nice thing about that would be you'd put your unopened items there, and they wouldn't need a CM to go through them for expiration dates, the charity will gladly do that work. (Hey look, someone must have planned on doing Thanksgiving, a three year old can of cranberries!)

Don't like the storage idea. Year old fruit snacks and granola bars where I'm not sure where they have been kept - no thanks. Beer that has been cooled and heated over a year? Blech. I can see where it might be nice for someone who went several times a year, though.

I noticed a collection of paperbacks at the BWV Community Hall. I'm not sure if it was an offical exchange, but thats what it looked like to me.

kid's toys, videos, clothes, knick knacks - I could see the value of having a "locker" at wdw if the price wasn't out of control.

We hated leaving stuff, too, I think probably the best thing to do with unopened is to give to the staff, with opened is to throw away. We've left detergent and used detergent left by other members in the laundry rooms before. I think that is a good idea. I like the paper back exchange idea.

This idea would be great for us. We leave virtually all our WDW clothes packed in the suitcase between trips, just lugging it back and forth.

Since we stay in a 1BR, we could wash them on checkout day (which we already do) and store them till next time. That way we'd only need one suitcase for the two of us :D

I think storage would be a good idea but am wondering if there is a food pantry in the area that would be willing to pick up food items which had not been open. If you think of how many people check out on a daily basis and throw so much stuff away perhaps this would be a worthy cause and it wouldn't cost Disney anything except to allow a place for unused items to be dropped off by guests who are checking out and be picked up by a food pantry. Any thoughts? Annmarie

Doc, I like the storage idea. I could leave things that are only used at WDW, visors, spray water bottles, laundry detergent tablets, lanyards, etc., things I must remember to pack each trip that aren't used at home--they would already be there. Will loook forward to hearing more about this. Not good for food, but non-food items would be great.
