Hos bad are the crowds for Columbus Day weekend?

We have a second trip planned for 10/12 - 10/17. These are the days FOLLOWING the long Columbus day weekend. Unfortunately there is no wiggle room for dates, it's those or nothing. My boys are competing at TDK Nationals on 10/16 at WOS.

So for those who have been there for Columbus Day weekend, really how bad is it? We are going for 9 days at the end of this month, so I'm planning for the Oct. trip to be very light on the parks, maybe 2 days and then do a water park one day. Maybe do MNSSHP one night.

I've never toured WDW during that time frame but I'll bump this back to page one for you so that some of our veterans can offer advice.

We were there for Columbus Day in 2002. It was definitely more crowded on the Monday than the rest of our stay. We tried to see the parade at MGM that day and it was not pretty. The weekend was also heavier than the weekdays. As compared to the really busy times, it's still not that bad. I am just very spoiled because of the times we usually visit. We'll be there again on Columbus Day this year. I'm just planning to do the less popular attractions on that day.
