:confused3 Trying to find any information about horseback riding excursions in Costa Maya? Any information would be great!! :thumbsup2 Oh, and while I'm at it, is there a Dolphin Swim program in the Costa Maya area?

We did the Disney excursion, and it was fun although it was all walking (in Cozumel, they let us canter). They tell you some history and then take you on a ride through the woods. The horses appeared to be in good shape, and it was a tame ride that was suitable for just about anyone.

Please be careful. The horses I saw ay several different riding "stables" were in horrible condition, extremely thin, saddle sores like none I've ever seen. I'm a horse trainer and I have to admit the first horse I saw at one of the riding stables I mistook as a very sorry donkey, at second glance I realized that poor soul was an incredibly emaitiated horse, tacked up and ready for a rider. I wouldn't dream of getting on one of those poor creatures... I would be surprised if most of them could handle a walk, never mind a canter.
So please, if you go and find the horses thin, or tack up all day, or covered with sores, reconsider what you're doing.

Do you know if these were stables associated with Disney or just local places that you noticed?

I would like to book this excursion through Disney but wouldn't know what to do if when we arrived the horses were in the condition you mention.

Not sure if DCL uses any of the stables I saw. I certainly hope not!
"but wouldn't know what to do if when we arrived the horses were in the condition you mention." Personally, if I were in that situation I wouldn't ride, to do so would be supporting and contributing to animal abuse and that would certainly ruin a vacation. I would take a photo and return to the ship for a refund and ask DCL to not support such a business until they could care properly for their horses. But again, I don't know if any of these places did business with DCL.

Oh my, my suggestion is NOT to strike out on your own and book. I would only book DISNEY. My dd and a bunch of our friends did it and came back so bitten up by fleas. My dd was covered in welts from head to toe. I have never seen anything so bad in my life. I believe they said that the horses weren't in the best of shape either.

1st time cruiser so bear with me. Disney does not list any horse or dolphin excursions on their sites for the 7 night Western on Magic. Is it because they are tight lipped about where we are actually going and therefor aren't offering any excursions? Or is it because they are available but not in advance? :confused3

I definitely will NOT support cruelty to animals, so thank you for the heads up.

I am the DD of jiminyC_fan and went horseback riding at Costa Maya in Oct. 2004. Disney didn't offer this excursion but I really wanted to go so we booked an excursion through another company. We were able to run with the horses (depending on skill)and the horses weren't in horrible condition but they weren't perfect. The flea bites were horrible and I was wearing jeans. I would not suggest horseback riding there. The company we went with had a trail a long the beach that was so trashy, I felt so sorry for the horses.

We did the horse back ride that was offered as an excursion at Tequila Beach ( you can do just the ride, or a day at the beach also) anyway, my 14 year old DD loves horses, so my husband took her on this. DIsappointing... the horses looked scrawny, the beach part of the ride was very brief. My daughter said the horses kept trying to leave the trail (probably to get in the shade!!) She said she wouldl not do it again.
