DD9 is horse mad. Is there any horseback riding available in WDW? If so where?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

There are trail rides offered at the Fort Wilderness campground. 9 is the minimum age so your DD just makes it. Cost is around $32/person (could be higher now, but that's a guesstimate) and you can make a ressie up to 90 days in advance (1-407-WDW-PLAY). You can get to FW by bus from any park or by boat from the MK.

It's a walk through the woods only, so if DD takes lessons or rides frequently, she may not find it all that exciting. Although if she's as horse-nuts as I was at that age (and still am at 40! :rolleyes1 ), she'll take and absolutely love whatever chance she can get!!

Thanks for the speedy replies. I might even have a go myself :rotfl:

You might have to. I seem to recall, but could be wrong, that an adult over the age of 18 is required to be with minors.

Excellent! I haven't ridden a horse since I was a teenager and then it was with an English saddle, so this will be quite an experience. I think the poor horses should be warned. :rotfl2:

My daughter (who is six) and I are going trail riding this weekend. When I made the reservations I told the guy "she hasn't been on anything bigger than pony rides at the zoo, and the last time I was on a horse was summer camp in Junior High." He laughed. I'll let you know how it goes.

this is not exciting.... almost dull...

you ride with their guides on a path the horse knows so well he would do without you.

the only excitment will happen when some nut allows his horse to eat....

then the guides will come up behind and hit your horse..... who will gallup away....

that says sometimes you can see wildlife - deers, bunnies, once a fox, that type of stuff.

if your son can ride he won't enjoy this one.

one yes - there is also the getting on and off the horse. Once they (guides) had trouble with a person who was at the weight limit 250lbs... he had problems getting off the horse - so they changed it....

it is a pain if you know how to get on and off a horse - if you don't it is fine - even helpfully.... but I hate it.

you get up on this thing (see link)

and fall on to the horse - you come off by pulling yourself over on this thing...

if you want to really ride a horse go offsite

you can also do a real rodeo in the area too.

Hmmm... DD isn't a good horsewoman (by any stretch of the imagination) but she's not too bad either. Do let me know how it goes - I think DD's more interested in the experience than anything too taxing.

Oh Dear God! Only in America :joker:

*Tried to post a link of DD riding a large cart horse at this point, but as a noob I'm not allowed url privileges yet :sad2: *

Link shows DD riding last week. The kids are expected to haul themselves onto this size of horse. Occasionally they're allowed to use a box if their legs aren't long enough.

But the loading platform is a very good idea for those who aren't experienced riders or (like me) are a bit too old or inexperienced to scramble onto a horse.

We're staying on property without a hire car (believe it or not) so we won't be able to take up the option of travelling too far outside WDW.

Once again, thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to reply. We really appreciate your help.

also just wanted to add at dixie stampede they have the barn open where you can go and pet and look at the beautiful horses for free. we did this it was fun.
