First, I want to say that I am new to these boards and I love them! So helpful and such a great way to plan and get excited for our upcoming trip!

But my question is about seeing horses at Disney. My almost 6 year old niece is obssessed with horses and I was hoping to take her horse back riding. But I saw at Fort Wilderness you have to be 9 to go horse back riding. Does anyone know if we could ride together? Or if there's anywhere else at Disney she can interact with horses?

Thanks so much!

FW has pony rides for $2 a pop. My DD is obsessed as well and was inconsolable when she had to get off. Forewaring you only get 1 go around and they close at dusk (5ISH)

We actually have horses so I love to hear about folks who are obsessed with them. I certainly am. We took the trail ride at FW years ago before we got our own horses. I'm certain they won't let you ride double. Go see the horses in the barn - they are the ones who clomp up and down Main Street. They are beautiful. Sometimes you can catch the farrier at work or catch them bathing one of the horses. It's a treat. I go just to get the smell -and be around horses because I miss mine so much when I'm away.

Pam,
What kind do you have?
I was born and raised on an Arabian horse farm. Apparently the equine avidity runs in the chromosomes as we sold the farm years before my DD was born but the obession continues... and shes only 3!!!

Oooh I'm so jealous of all you horse people. I love them but I will never be able to afford one here in MA. :( Around here it's a hobby/pet reserved for the very well off.

I did the trail ride at FW and it was fun but they will not likely let you ride double. The petting zoo at FW has pony rides. The horse bard at FW is great too.

pam and SYDNCLAIRESMOM
i just bought a horse in december. she is only four. she's an off the track tb. she is wonderful. what dicepline of riding do you do? i would love to know.

I have been on the trails at wl and it would be a blast for your niese. i'm not sure though how old you have to be. at mk you can take a ride on cariages down main street. the horses are magnificent and you can take pictures with them.

You might consider visiting Horse World in Kissimmee.

At age 6, my daughter was too young for the Fort Wilderness trail rides, so we drove her to Horse World. She went with a group of other riders on a 60 minute ride through the surrounding palmetto forest. Maddie LOVED it, and still talks about her horse "Frank". The guide kept her right next to him for the entire ride, and her horse was VERY gentle and good with kids.

Horse World is about 30 minutes from WDW. It cost around $35/person to go riding.
