Hello everyone,

I have a 25 night holiday booked in Orlando for May next year, i would like to do a horse riding trail something not to far away from I drive, Disney Areas

Do any of you know anywhere good with good feedback?

Thanks in Advance

I think you can ride horses at Disney but don't really know much about it. The only other place that people have mentioned is Horse World in Kissimmee. It's down Poincianna Blvd. I've driven past it but never been there. It wouldn't be too far from I Drive. ( 20 - 30 min depending on which end you're staying on.) It's very easy to get to.

Thank you very much for your help :)

I would like to hear about people riding at Disney also :) if there is anyone out there?

The horse riding at Disney is from the stables located at the front of the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. I believe that it is a guided trail ride.

I've never been on it, however, have stayed at the campground and have seen the groups riding.

Daughter did the riding at Horseworld. She would not recommend it. You go around in a big circle through the woods and back again. Horses were not in the best condition. My daughter has a horse in the UK and did the advance trail, there was no trotting or cantering. She told them she has a horse before she did the trail.

For what it is worth my husband and I rode in Disney 15yrs ago. The trail was a little scrubby and sandy. Not my favorite HB experience. Staff were great and it was a nice diversion but if you love that "nature" part of HB riding then it might not be for you. Then again this might be the only type of terrain available for riding in FLa.

The Disney ride is just walking, but if you go on the first ride of the day you may see some cool wildlife.

I've heard you can book a more advanced ride at Horse World, with trotting and cantering.

Clermont is the real "horsey" area out here (that's where I board my horse, across the street from Lake Louisa State Park), but they don't really have any rental barns out there.

The Disney ride is very pretty, but very mellow. No trot, let alone cantor. The horses are well kept, and very friendly. If you want a nice easy guided tour, Disney is it.

I'm interested in stables where you can book a cantor ride if anyone knows.

That sounds so disappointing. The weeklong pass at Horseworld sounded great until I heard this.

I've ridden on Disney's trail. Anyone not physically disabled can ride it. The horses walk only...not trotting, cantering, and running. The ride is an hour long at best and for even a mildly experienced horseback rider it isn't even taxing (I went jogging after my trailride). Horses also looked in decent condition and were mild mannered. I saw a few riders even drop their reins on the saddle and let their horse follow the group (not that I would EVER recommend this).

My husband and I took a summer's worth of horseback riding lessons together so we were ok'd by our instructor to do trail rides, trotting and cantering. My husband is a larger man who works out and Disney doesn't have any horses large enough to carry him (and for the pooh sized among you...if you weigh over 200 pounds, expect to be turned away from horseback rides). I most likely won't be riding there again because of the fact that my husband can't participate, and well, to me...the ride is kind of flat and boring.

I did a ride at Horseworld 2yrs ago and loved it.I did the advance trail with alot of trot and cantering.
Florida is a sand pit so thats the terriane.Lee was awsome and you can tell his love of horses. He will ask you questions about your knowledge of riding. If he dont think you are expierenced enough for the advance trail he wont let you do it.
I dont know what kinda horses they got in the UK,but in the states the typical breed are Appoloosa or Quarter.Of coarse they are Tennesse Walkers,Paints,Mustangs. All of which dont get taller on the average then 16hands.Now Thoroubreds I have seen as large as 19hands.
Anyway Horseworld I reccomend to anyone. The horses are well taken care of.They also have a horse rescue where horses are nursed back to health from owners that mistreated them.
Here is the website.Enjoy reading there story..

Be careful when you're telling a riding stable about your previous riding experience. If you say you own a horse or really emphasize what a good rider you are, that can be a BAD thing. I used to work at a riding stable, and most of the people who told us that couldn't ride worth a lick. Thus we'd give them one of the most dead-headed horses. Cantering was allowed at the barn, and it was funny to see them struggling to get the horse going. When they complained, we'd say, "You said you are an experiened rider!" Then we'd get on and demonstrate how well the horse could indeed canter. There wasn't much they could say at that point. I know it's not fair to people who really are experienced, but the vast majority give a line of BS when they go to a barn. It would be nice if they all could be like a place I rode at years ago in TN. I told them I owned a horse, and they pulled out a horse that was high-strung and indeed a horse for someone with experience. But they had me ride him around the arena first before okaying me to go out on trails with him.

Good point re. experience.

We've been to a couple of different places (Reno and Sea Brook Island, SC come to mind) where they did have rides set up for experienced riders but they made it clear you'd better know what you're doing (and the pricing was higher than a general low-key trail ride). I don't ride but my dd does and has enjoyed these opportunities on vacation. Actually, I'm a little surprised that with all the eventing that goes on in FL, along with some great trainers in general, that there isn't more opportunity for experienced/advanced riders to do something fun and interesting while visiting. FL's horse world is huge!! I wonder if the COTH forums would have some recommendations for those wanting to ride in the Orlando area....
