There are some people, I will call them jerks, who have decided it is nice to take their horses for evening rides - THROUGH TOWN! I have seen them all over different parts of the town in the past few weeks. While I think it is nice for them, and pretty neat to see, I don't appreciate the gigantic globs of horse droppings they are leaving all over town - in the road, on the sidewalks, etc.

We passed them last night near our home when we were leaving for an errand. The kids got a charge out of it, and so did I until our return. There was a horse poop gift right in front of our house. I had to avoid running over it to get into the driveway, and then scoop it up and rinse the street. Yuck!

There is a town ordinance about picking up dog poop. I don't know about horse poop, but come on, people, have a little respect for the rest of us. Next time I see them, I am going to say something. Any suggestions? Isn't there something you can put on a horse to catch their poop?

Thats kinda gross LOL I rode horses for most of my life so horse poop is not such a big deal to me, its not nasty like dog poop due to the horses diet but I dont think I would want it infront of my house! I would call the town and see what they think. I dont think there is a horse poop catcher?:lmao:

Its great for veggie gardens and plants though so you may want to consider it for your garden if you have one !:)

:rotfl: When I went to get a shovel, my kids decided to check out the poop. They had never really seen it up close. Hannah said it smelled gross, Emily said it smelled like mint. :rotfl:

Where the heck do you live?

In NYC, they do have horse poop catchers on the carriages, but it's attached to the cart behind the horse.

I'd love to see the "little blue bag" designed for this pick up job. :lmao:

Are these recreational riders or has your town implemented some sort of patrol? I only ask in that you indicate they are very visible.

There are such things as horse diapers - called the bun bag. But they are used with harnesses not saddles.

I, for one, am one of the weird ones who actually likes the smell of horse poop. I will take it anyday over dog poop. Guess that comes with spending way too much time in stables as a kid. You tend to become too familiar with it and it no longer is 'poop'.

Town passes horse diaper law :rotfl2:

I live in Vermont, but it is not out in the country - I live in a town of about 10,000 people.

They are recreational riders. There must be somewhere else they can ride.

I actually didn't mind the smell, but what a mess when people start running over it, stepping in it, riding their bikes in it. Rude rude rude rude.

There is a unwritten rule among horse people to dispose of your poop when you are out...wether it be by picking it up, moving it to better location( woods, or side of the road) or even spreading it out, so it breaks down quicker. When I am out on my horse on a trail I will try to get off and push is aside if possible. If I cannot safety get off my horse or if I am on the road I will go back after my ride and take care of it..

The good horse people will pick up there poop because we dont want to loose what little trails or places to ride we have...

Thank you so much for that information. I wonder if they would have been by later to clean it up. If not, at least not all horse people are like that. That makes me feel a little better. :)

Makes excellent fertilizer! :goodvibes Seriously I dont have this problem because we have a farm with lots of trails and we have show horses so they really don't see trails that much. Our friends that do a lot of trail riding alway's clean up after themselves either when the poop happen's or they go back later. My friend lisa actually went back one time to clean up her mare's mess and a man came out and yelled at her and said he was gonna follow her home then poop on the street in front of her house!!:scared: She didn't know what to say to him!!

this is a pet peeve of mine! I can be cited for failing to clean up my dog's poop, but the Amish folk around here can let their horses poop WHERE EVER, and not clean it up. :confused3 I'm talking public streets, parking lots-grocery stores, banks, restaurants, etc. It is totally DISGUSTING as well as infuriating! OK, rant over!
