I keep hearing horror stories of how the August heat is going to ruin my trip! Is it really that hot? I mean, I know its gonna be hot but will it completely ruin everything like I keep hearing from people? I'm so looking forward to this and I'm gonna have a wonderful time...i hope. I just bought a misting fan to take along and we r planning a mid day break/nap/swim back at the rersort. I'm so excited:yay:

Depends on where you're from... I live near Philly, and to me, the FL humidity is only marginally worse than at home in August - but if you live in a much cooler/drier area it might bug you. Just be prepared, take it easy, drink lots of fluids, and if you have kids (or even not) go back mid-day to cool of and take a break.

Where are you from? I think it depends on where you are from, and how you respond to heat/humidity as a person (and how you are used to living... AC wise))!

We live in Ohio, it is hot and very often humid!

We do not have CA at home, only a window AC unit and a ceiling fan! We only really use it (AC unit) if the farmer's are farming close by, my or our DS son's asthma/allergies are acting up, or the pollen count is high. DH does not have AC at work and we try not to use the AC in the cars either.

Don't get me wrong, it's hot (sometimes very hot) but we live with it!

We were at WDW last August/September and it was not really any worse than being at home!

This sounds gross, but I took a daily "sweat rag" (clean one daily) to wipe my brow/face, we stayed hydrated (very important), I did buy a misting fan at WDW but found it just be an extra thing to carry (rarely used it). If you are hot, you can find places to cool down at, many shows are AC as are many restaurants.

I also took an extra shirt (for DS and DH as well) and kept it in my bag so we could switch before our TS meals (took mini deodorants, too)! :thumbsup2 This helped to feel a bit more fresh before eating!

I think you will be just fine! :upsidedow It's so fun, you just keep going!

Some people take mid-day breaks (we did not) or "pool breaks" (again, we didn't) and that might be an great option for your family if you do find it unbearable!

we r from pa. So its hot here too. Mind u...all these people who keep telling me how bad fl is in august have never went in august:confused3 I think I'll be fine. Especially with those little misting fans. Thanks

We have family in Fl and we never visit between June - August. For me personally it's too hot. Plus the crowds are intense at disney in the summer. But it's all about you and how you can handle the heat and the crowds. If you plan well (go early mornings and evenings, plan a/c lunches, and maybe a dip in the pool mid day) you may not feel the heat as much. Just make the best of it, mist yourself, drink lots, do indoor shows, and take breaks!

we r going Aug 18. this is the week b4 free dining, I'm pretty sure. So I'm assuming that the crowds shouldnt be too too bad. I hope I'm right:)

It is hot but as long as you take a nice pace which it sounds like you are then you will be fine. Have fun!:cutie:

You will be fine. We went the last week of August last year and it was hot, but not anything worse than back in NJ. All of the indoor attractions are air conditioned so you get to cool off alot. Drink a lot of water and have a great trip:)

Totally AGREE. Drink EXTRA, relax a bit, enjoy the air conditioned rides, repeat some :rotfl2:
HAVE A GREAT time.
Maybe it was an AUGUST visitor who STATED This rumor to keep people AWAY :cool1: WORKS FOR ME, we're returning late august and we LOVE it!!

Near Philly here too and I have to agree with Karen...we visited early last September and while it was hot I was so surprised at how similar...(even the humidity)...the weather was to PA. I would suggest bring a backpack or soft pack cooler and load up on water before leaving your room. The key is keeping hydrated, wear a hat and not do COMANDO where you leave no time for a shaded break here and there. Staples.com or Costco can deliver water to your resort. What a life saver for us!

Everyone thought we were NUTS visiting in September....we had a really good time. Liked it so much we are coming back this September.

Have a great trip. :wizard:

Misting fans at Walmart $4.99

We always go in August and I won't lie - it is hot. However, it can't be that bad because we keep returning!:lmao:

Honestly, there are a lot of airconditioned attractions to give a break from the sun and heat. When the heat is getting to us, we either take a nice long lunch or find a long show or ride that is indoors (or grab a mickey bar!). It really isn't that horrible. The worst park for the heat is Animal Kingdom because there isn't as many indoor attractions there. MK, Epcot, and MGM are much more bearable.

Bring a mister, drink lots, and take some afternoon breaks if you need to. We stay all day in the parks, but I totally understand why many people go back to the resort for a swim if the heat is getting to them.

Go with a positive attitude and enjoy!

Funny, my son's friend called me near tears a few months ago because she is taking her kids for their 1st trip ever in a few weeks and everyone has told her she is wasting her $ and she wanted advice on whether or not to cancel her trip!
Anyway we are returning in a few weeks for the second August in a row, the 4th overall. I told her if she was crazy then so am I.:upsidedow

Seriously, take it easy and listen to everyone's cues (i.e. don't push to the point of meltdown) and you will have a blast! Most rides and attractions are air conditioned and when all else fails a nice nap in an air-conditioned room or a swim back at your resort can do wonders to revive the body and spirit. It sounds like you already have a great plan in place.:goodvibes

I live in Florida.....have been here my whole life.....and I refuse to do Disney in the summer. Never ever ever. It is waaaaay too miserably hot for me....and believe me, I'm the outdoorsy tomboy type. I have done it before, about 8 or 10 years ago, and swore I would never do it again. So we havent. I dont like to be dripping sweat before I even reach the bus stop. We do fall and spring trips now.

I live in Barbados - year round hot climate, and I found the heat in Orlando last July to be unbearable!

My discomfort was compounded by my DH's insistence on a commando-style, let-me-get-my-money's-worth-approach. He refused to leave for an afternoon break. Of course, he seemed to have forgotten that he has a higher tolerance for heat because he works in the outdoors everyday! I'd rather do 50% of the parks at a pace I can enjoy. I see no value in being able to boast that I covered the whole park, but I had such a bad heat-induced migraine that I hated every minute of it.

We're going again this summer (Aug 24 - 30) - my mom and my 11 month old nephew will be there too. I'm guessing that DH will have to slow down or do the parks by himself!

We went in Aug. of '07 and we hit the worst week for heat and humidity everyday was over 105 degrees but we were able to do a lot and made our trip fine.
We spoke to some of the local people there and they told us it was the hotest that they could remember in a long time.
We had Misty Mates with us, plenty of water, plenty of stops in A/C shops and we put wet face cloths in plastic bags in the freezers the night before and took them with us during the day and they felt great.
We paced ourselves with our three kids who, by they way did fantastic the whole time and not one complaint about being hot. They were in Disney so they were having a great time.
I'd rather be hot at WDW than hot at home!!!
Just take your time plan your days and have a great trip.

It really is that hot, but as others have said, you can do things to make it bearable. I would definitely have a misting fan for when you are in line at least. That made it tolerable for us. But you WILL have fun!

I was there last year in August for a week. And to begin with let me tell you that I am probably the MOST hot-natured person in the world!!! We went out in the mornings, room and swim mid-day, back out to parks about 6. I was warm.....but if I had the money I would do it again!!!! Have a WONDERFUL TIME!!!

We went in August a couple of years ago, never again! We have heat and humidity here, but I don't walk 10+ miles a day at home in it. In all of our photos we look horrible! Sweaty, hair plastered to head, deflated. We enjoyed ourselves because we were at Disney, but our pictures look like we were miserable. If you don't have to go in August, my choice would be to avoid it. Also....hurricanes seem to get active then too.

I think it just depends on how you tollorate heat. We went in August once and I was miserable and will never go back that time of year. My dh on the other hand didn't mind it so much.

Like others have already said make sure to drink a lot. I took an extra shirt with me, soap, and deodorant in my backpack. I was stinking so bad by mid day so I would wash up in the bathroom and change shirts. It made me feel much better.
