Horrific crowds Thanksgiving week!

ALL? Is this a change? I thought the premium AP's had NO blockout days?

Oops.. I meant that all AP's that are subject to blockout days are blocked out on those days... We all know that Premium and Premiere are not subject ot blockouts! ;)

We were there the Wed before Thanksgiving to Monday. My opinion is that Wednesday was pretty bad, Thursday was okay, Friday and Saturday were crazy busy, Sunday was okay and Monday was very comfortable. We will not be deterred from traveling over Thanksgiving weekend in the future, although I will probably plan to skip Friday and/or Saturday.

The thing that's changed this year is that many, many school districts in California have the entire Thanksgiving week off where they didn't before.
This definitely contributed to the crowds Sunday through Wednesday. All of my co-workers with school aged kids had to plan for the extra days off. And, yes, one of them went to Disneyland on Monday with his entire family.

I went on Friday after Thanksgiving and it was medium-heavy. But manageable and not unbearable. By that point, the AP block outs kicked in and helped alleviate some of the crowds. I can't speak for Saturday or Sunday though. mom2dzb above has probably a good indication of those crowds. I did go to Universal Studios on Saturday and found it to be lighter than normal. :)

What is the difference between premium and premiere? Makes me wonder which one we have. :confused3

Premium refers to the AP with no block out days for California Disney parks only. Premiere refers to an all American Disney parks pass with no block out days that is good for Disneyland, DCA, and all the Disney World parks.

As I've said ~ our days we're Thanksgiving day, Fri & Sat - we got there at park opening all 3 days, had 4 sets of FPs by 11am - took mid day breaks and then went back in the evening and used the FPs we had collected earlier. Crowds were very mild IMO - we had a fantastic time.

I am with Todzwife--(see her similar thread)

It was that bad, people. And you are talking to a hardcore disneyland lover here--we go 2-3 times a year, and this was just beyond everything I have experienced in crowds. Even to get a cup of hot chocolate was a major event that took almost one hour of waiting in line!

We have gone the past few years in early December (like the 3rd-11th ish) and it has been perfect. The crowds are totally managable--the experience magical. This time, not so much! I felt like I didn't even see the Christmas Decorations this time, because there was just too many people to see anything.

Even our beloved Disneyland Hotel was not up to par--it was a big bag of meh:confused3 with a premium view (oh yes, I paid extra for this) of construction dirt and tarps.

So we are home now, older, wiser, and never to journey to Disneyland Thanksgiving week again.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the Tuesday night fiasco of World of Color that included freezing rain. Let's just say I gritted my teeth with the rest of the moms in the crowd and plastered a smile on my face, all the while thinking "I will pay anyone big money to end this show early and let us all go home". As we made our way back to the DLH, my only saving grace was remembering to call "Mama has dibs on the shower FIRST".

consider yourself very, very lucky. i saw the wednesday night show and i had vomit on my foot. yes, vomit - from a twenty-something year old :sad2:. freezing rain wouldve been heaven compared to that.
