We live just off a very busy intersection. Last night dh and I are just dozing off when we here BANG!!!! and then car horns blaring. We jump out of bed, throw some clothes on. Yep sure enough, there's two cars totaled. I run down the street, dh calls 911. It was all teenagers. 2 girls in one car, 2 boys in the other. Myself and witnesses try to convince everyone to stay in their cars. I go to talk to the girls and that's when I realize it's the girl who lives at the end of the block from us. Dh walks down the block to get the parents. They ended up putting all 4 kids on back boards with neckbraces and off to the hospital they go. From witness accounts, the girls blew the redlight at high speed and the boys thinking they were going to stop turned in front of them.

I'll walk down later to see my neighbor and find out how her dd is.

Please, please, please remind your kids to be careful driving and if your teenager made it home safe last night, give them a hug.

I know the sound you're talking about, it's something you never forget. Seems like they were lucky to all be alive and talking. Were they wearing seatbelts do you know? Hope they are ok.

Oh man, this is my greatest fear with kids when they drive. They think that nothing will ever happen to them.
My heart goes out to all involved. Keep us posted.

And my son wonders why I wouldn't let him ride in a car with some of his friends when he was younger?

Glad they all lived anyhow. So sad when things like this happen. So many accidents involving teenagers are so preventable, if they would jsut slow down.

Two girls, a freshman and a sophomore, from our town were killed in a car accident in Iowa yesterday. I know the parents of one of the girls. It is going to be a VERY tough day in our town tomorrow.

With 2 teens driving now, this is my worst nightmare.

I know the horror first hand. My 17 year old brother was killed in a car in 1975. I was 13 at the time. I actually saw his body being pulled from the wreck.

Took lunch down to our neighbor today. Her daughter (as well as all the other kids) is home and extremely sore. She has bruises where her seat belt was and the doctor told her to expect more bruises. Sounds like both drivers got tickets and one of the kids parents have all ready contacted a lawyer. :rolleyes2 Both cars are totalled. My neighbor goes down tomorrow to clean out the car. I think she's really going to be shocked with how bad that car really looks.

Well, the fact that all the injured are home is definitely great - under the circumstances. I hope they are all feeling better soon!

May I add - I don't think I would have thought of bringing your neighbors lunch and helping them out-luckily, we've not had to deal with anything like this. How very thoughtful of you.

Luckily your neighbor had the sense to wear her seatbelt.

DD#1 will be a freshman next year. She told me the other night "at least now I know kids at the high school who can drive, so I can get rides home from practices and stuff and you won't have to worry about it." Um, no, I'd worry 10x more if she rode home with a kid! I'll pick her up until she graduates if I can get away with it!
Glad your neighbor is OK!

Glad the kids faired ok. Not all teens in accidents are that lucky.

Glad to hear they are all okay. It was just about a year ago my teenage brother was in a horrible accident. He broke his neck and is still recovering mentally and deals with some short term memory loss. One of the girls in the truck had major head injuries and is now pretty much in a vegatative state. It is very VERY sad.

Both my brother and the other kids in the truck were not wearing a seatbelt.

Glad to hear that your neighbor is going to be OK. Can't tell you how many times I heard about teens and driving and accidents and then sometimes death..............................................................

It's just sickens me.

The age of the teens driving needs to be raised.
