horrible story in NY papers today -- 3 year old boy died

I read that. How sad. :( You really have to be careful what you allow a small child to eat.

It is tragic. However, the part of the story that got me was the movie the family was watching. Why was a 3 YO in a theater watching Alien vs. Predator?

the part that got you was; what movie they were watching????...

ummmmmmm.... who cares- a child died- this is a horrible & very tragic story- and now it really doesn't matter what the kid was watching- whether appropriate or not:(

I disagree, the movie they were watching is important. It continues to show that this poor boy's parent(s) had no clue as to how to raise a child.

that's just a tad bit insensitive, DukeStreetKing.

the poor parents...the mother wants to lay down in the street and die...and you criticize her parenting skills...I think she's beating herself up enough, you don't have to add to her misery.

It was aweful that he died...I also have to say I couldn't figure out why a 3 yr old was watching that movie. From a similar experience..choking child, inappropriate movie ... in the sitaution I witnessed a few months ago the child ended up ok, but the parents didn't realize she was choking right away because they were too wrapped up in the movie and shushing her. I am in no way saying this is what happened in this case, just the child had no reason to be there in the first place. This is just my opinion and in no way reflects the opinions of anyone else!

That story was actually the talk of the workplace today and the majority of the people start out with "wow, that poor family" then go right into...
'what were they thinking taking that young child to see that movie' ....to each his own but meanwhile a little boy is dead and his family is mourning...

Well, we all make choices in our lives and have to live with the consequences. She put her child in that situation and now, unfortunately, she has the rest of her life to think about it. Her poor child does not have that luxury.

Now, THAT'S insensitive!

the women is a special education teacher- i'm sure she knows how to raise children as she is around "needy" kids all day at work- this type of thing could happen to anyone- some people are just more liberal then others as to what they let their children watch

come on, have a heart- would you want others to judge you if god forbid this happened to someone in your family?

because the child watched an "adult movie" did not cause him to choke and die ....so what do you mean by putting her child in that situation? they were at a movie- what the heck is the situation???????

:guilty:

I still agree, we aren't this child's parents and we have NO right to judge them. I know at 3 years old my son would have slept through any movie we took him to anyway.

We didn't make it a point to take him to horror movies or anything but even if we had he would have ate a little popcorn and slept.......

I just don't think its fair to judge people you don't even know.

No, it didn't. Because his mother used poor judgement caused this child to choke and die.

If this child merely choked and ended up in the hospital, this conversation would be taking a completely different tone and this woman would be getting vilified by everyone for the poor choice she made.

This scenario was child abuse, albiet slightly, but this woman is not the innocent victim some people are making her out to be.

So if the had gone to see Shrek 2 he wouldn't have choked to death?

its sad that we can't have more compassion for the hardships of others

How do you know that? How do you know the child wasn't startled or scared by something he saw in a TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE MOVIE FOR A 3 YO and that is why he choked?

Yes, it is tragic and sad a child died. No doubt, no arguement from me. But children die every day, and their deaths are not in the newspaper. This one was, and apparently someone thought the movie they were watching was significant enough to mention.

I have compassion for those individuals who cannot help themselves and fall victim to other's mistakes.

okay, lets say he was watching a cartoon and laughed and choked- what is the point you are all trying to make??

i feel bad for the child and his parents- i don't care what he was watching, or if he was standing on his head- the whole point of this original post was to express sympathy for a child loosing his life - not to put down his parents for taking him to a scary movie- he could have just as easily choked by laughing at something- who knows ???

What I am saying is that it is tragic and sad a child died. It would be even MORE tragic and sad if his parents' decision in any way precipitated that death.
