Horrible stay at POP

Wow,

I have to stay - I loved Pop. This was my first value resort experience and was really nervous. I previously stayed at POFQ and CBR and I liked Pop just as much, if not more?

Different Strokes for Different Folks.

I do agree with the original poster and I would gross out if that happened to me.

Has anyone else had a response from PC or Disney about the bad experiences. If so what was it?

People are always talking about noise at restaurants and hotels.
I do not expect it to be quiet anywhere at Disney!
If I wanted peace and quiet I would get a cabin in the Smokey Mtns!
How can you expect it to be quiet at a childrens themed park??

I don't know. Most of these bad experiences people have seem to be things that could happen at ANY resort.

I've had a messy room at Poly. I've heard noise from pools and rude, loud guests at Poly. I don't blame this on Poly. I blame it on the rude, loud guests and I blame the mess on whoever the individual housekeeper was that did not do their job.

The OP's problem could have happened anywhere.

I personally loved Pop Century. I loved Poly too.

If the room is not properly prepared they should move you to a different room. This done quickly, no other compensation is due.

Ask for 50% off or whatever compensation you feel is appropriate, don't wait for them to make an offer. I am led to believe that if you ask for fast passes and not much else they will actually go out back, produce a pad of them and tear off a stack for you.

Stayed at Coronado Springs, got a room right next to a noisy air conditioner unit. Hardly heard it from inside although I probably would have heard people running and stomping down the outside hallway (did not happen).

Phyllisi, many of your complaints are valid, but I think that some of them are an example of over-expectations.

There was mildew in the shower, something that can be removed by washing.
Mildew in the shower should not exist. The Mousekeepers should be scrubbing down the showers between Guests.

Shame on Disney for going cheap on sound proofing.
Soundproofing on any hotel below $200 a night seems inadequate. The only hotel I've ever stayed in where I didn't hear things going on outside my room was the Swan. I don't think Disney went cheap on the construction of the Values, but they did go 'off the rack', meaning that they used prefab industry-standard materials and techniques that are used in hotel construction all over the US. Going industry-standard is not the same as going cheap, though admittedly it is cheapER than the mondo-expensive custom jobs done on the Deluxe resorts.

Disney really messed up on designing the pop by going cheap on material and expensive of decor.
Whimsical themes are what most people are paying for at a Disney resort. Look at the hundreds of threads that run on boards like this which ask, "On site or off site?" and the primary reason that most people list for paying the exhorbitant cost of a Disney resort is ATMOSPHERE. Some call it Magic, some call it Being In Disney, some call it the Disney Feel, but atmosphere is established by the whimsical theme of the resort, so it behooves Disney to spend more money on constructing themed resorts which will motivate people to spend that extra money to stay in a Disney resort instead of the Days Inn LBV or HIFS.

Some of the front desk were rude, some were great.
There is no excuse for a rude CM. I've worked in plenty of public service jobs, so I know the rigors of dealing with the public, but there is never any excuse for being rude to your Guests, particularly at Disney. When I stayed at Pop in Dec 2003, I did not ancounter any rude CMs, but I have encountered them once in a while in various places at WDW, and I have never come away feeling the Magic.

The Pop is like staying at a Motel 6 type motel with a Disney price.
I understand your position, but I don't agree with it entirely. Certainly, the Disney Values have a far lower level of service and less amenities than the Deluxes, but I still rate them much higher than a Motel 6 or Econo Lodge. And as to a Disney price, that's not a hotel issue but a Disney issue; everything you buy at Disney parks and resorts, from your room rate to the candy bars in the gift shops, is extrememely overpriced. But with a little planing and forethought you can find ways to shave some of the expense off.

The glasses, er I mean cups were plastic, how tacky for a Disney resort.
Plastic cups are not tacky at all for under $100 a night. This is a common cost-saving measure at hotels that has hidden bennefits to you, the Guest; glasses must be washed, and there is always a chance that they will come back less than pristine. But individually wrapped plastic cups come directly from the factory and are always clean and sanitary. They are also safer for those with small children who might break the glass, causing a hazard.

I don't care for Pop, either, so don't think I'm jumping to Pop's defense. My biggest complaints with Pop are that the beds are bricks and every single bus I rode to or from Pop in December was packed like a sardine can. But I do enjoy the Value resorts, having stayed at ASMU and ASSP several times each, and I think that holding a Value resort to the same standards a a resort costing 3-4 times as much is a little unfair.

Oh well, we are still looking forward to our stay at POP next week. I have read tons more positive things about POP than I have read negative. The negative comments I have read seem to come from people that have expected more out of a value resort than there really is.
For us, I know that even jammed in like a sardine next week with all the other spring breakers, POP and Disney will rock! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi Cricket429.
My husband and I just came back from a 13 night stay at the Pop on Feb. 28. This was our first trip to WDW and had a fantastic time. We enjoyed every minute we had at Pop. Our room was clean and well maintained. The beds were comfortable and the mousekeepers were great. They made characters and left them for us. We did not have our children with us and we always rushed into the room to see what character was left this time. We did hear a little noise from the other rooms around but it was nothing more than I have heard at other hotels. Water running for a shower when things are very, very quiet. The food was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We found the transportation from the resort to the parks to be fantastic. We waited no more than 10 minutes at any time for our bus. If I had anything to complain about this resort, it would be about the way the employees are treated by the guests staying at this resort. The employees work extremely hard to keep this resort clean and well maintained. The things I experienced first hand were the constant wearing of gloves while preparing food. The constant wearing of gloves while they constantly clean tables and refreshment areas. The constant cleaning up of messes left by guests when they just walk away from a spill they have made or their unfinished food and trays being left on a table. These employees are always pleasant and friendly. During our entire stay, we say 2 employees not being entirely friendly but we never saw them again. I wonder why? These employees power scrub the outside of the buildings, the railings, walls, ceilings, walkways and poolsides. They use leaf blowers to get rid of dust on the walkways between buildings and everythings is kept extreamly clean. I know things can happen and people can be unhappy with situations such as the original posting but this could happen anywhere. Maybe that was one of those employees we never saw again. I am planning to return to WDW in 2 years with my 4 year old and 18 year old and I would be extremely pleased if I could stay at the Pop again at that time. There was nothing they were not willing to help with and I only hope you have as great a time as we did. Have fun!!!

I'm sorry about your experience, although I'm sure it's an isolated (but completely inexcusable) incident.

In regards to your comment about the buses, I fail to understand the last part. Pop Century has queue lines for all of the bus stops. Each stop is clearly marked as to where the bus will be going.

i have to agree with tyler that each bus stop is clearly marked and each stop has queue lines. every resorts buses get crowded, its not only at pop. ive stayed at pop century 3 times and had a great time everytime and had no complaints, sorry you had a bad experience.
