We just returned from a long weekend trip (MLK holiday) to Pop Century. We had a bad experience with getting our room. We arrived around 9:15 PM on the 16th. The CM checking us in was very nice and went out of his way to make us and our DD feel welcome. However he wrote the wrong room number on our map. There we were trying and trying to get out room key to work and it just wouldnt work. My dh went to a house phone and while he was gone I tried the key a few more times and then a man came to the door asking if we were trying to get into his room!! Turns out we were at the wrong room . OK so we carry our stuff to the other room and THAT key did not work either!!! DH once again goes to a house phone and someone from security comes and he could not get HIS key to work. He assured us that we had the right room and since we were hungry we said we would go get something to eat and they would have it corrected when we came back. He was very nice and apologized several times. About midnight we came back and the key STILL did not work!!! DH called out over the balcony to one of the CMs that was riding the Segway but she just looked at us and kept going. Dh went to the house phone one more time and then about 10 more minutes the Segway girl came to our room with new keys. She was not about to get off the Segway for ANYTHING. She couldnt get close enough to the door and would back up and pull up several times before she finally tried the keys. She tried all three keys and said "They work" and handed them to us and went off on her Segway. SOOOO.... at 12:38 we finally were able to get to our room. The hotel was cute but we were very upset that we had such a hard time getting to our room.

Sorry you had such a hard time getting into your room, and that you had trouble with the one of the CM's wonder why she wouldn't get off the segway?? Hope the rest of your trip went better.

I had the same thing happen years ago at the All Stars. It is so frustrating. Sorry your trip got off to a bad start. hope it was better after that!

 Wow your Home looks great, and is that an Epcot view? COOL!

I can feel your pain!!..We had the same thing happen to us at AKL *3 times* in 48 hours and my niece was in a wheelchair.Fun,fun, fun!!! Needless to say it will be a while before I return to AKL.:worried: If I return at all!!!

Know exactly what you went thru!

PORS....some years back, went thru the same thing with our key cards. Plus, we had a couple of times we couldn't even charge on our card!
How embarrassing!!!!!!

Why is it that these things happen?
Go figure?

Sorrry you had a bad start on a hopefully good trip.

PS...still hadn't returned to PORS yet, though!:smooth:

That reminds me of something that I read on these boards once. I forgot if it was for a WDW or a Universal resort (I think Universal). The wrong room number was written on the slip and when the family and bellhop went to the room the key card did not work, of course. The bellhop got out his key that works in all the locks and opened the door to a couple having fun in bed. That must have been so embarrassing to all involved, but I sure did get a good laugh reading about it.

It would be frustrating going through what you did, mum4jenn, especially since it was so late at night.

That's why you use the inside door lock as well!!!

Something like that happend to us at a Courtyard. They gave us cards to a room that was obviously occupied. Luckly, we were honest people & just left (imagine what dishonest people could have taken). The front dest couldn't have apologised any more & gave us free breakfast the next day.

We had 2 families with adjoining rooms the first time we went to the World. Both families got the keys, took the VERY long walk to the rooms, opened the doors at the same time and walked in. The two families who already occupied the room were not at home. We actually called the lobby from the rooms and waited until they came with new keys and new rooms.

The fact that we were in someone elses rooms and could have stolen anything we wanted is something that I still think about when I am at Disney. I highly suggest putting anything of value ($ or sentimental) in the safe, because it is not just staff you need to consider (and I believe 99.9% of them are honest).

We have never had any problem like this. I know mistakes happen. Although, Disney should absolutely try to compensate in some way for the inconvenience. I probably would have asked for a Manager to see what they would comp. ::MinnieMo

Same thing happended to us 3 years ago @ CRS. We walked right into someone elses room. Thankfully they we not "home" at the time.!!!!

Same thing happen to us at allstars sports. Ducklite I would like to move to orlando soon. About how much does a house and property like that cost?

okay, ducklite you have peeked my interest also, regarding the new home and esp. the view......way to go.........is their a number i can call about info on this area? instead of asking your personal business....we are DVC, but DH retiring early next yr...so maybe we need to spend some mths in Fla.......thanks

We were at the Poly in 1989 and on our honeymoon. The first room our key did not work, bellman uses his key to open the room door. On the bed are two employee uniforms, the shower is running and male and female voices were laughing and having a great time! Second room there is no bed! Third room there are no inner doors, curtains or lampshades, all of the wall art was down.
Fourth room - bathroom full of dead bugs - housekeeping tells us to expect bugs, this is Florida. Fifth room was a keeper. We spent hours with this fiasco. Later in our stay, we learn that incoming messages were lost because theyhadn't updated the correct room assignment! We NEVER stay at the Poly.

When we were at POR in August, someone opened our room door at around 12 midnight. Fortunately the chain was on but it shocked me out of a really deep sleep!!!

As they say: - "To err, is human, but it takes a computer to really mess things up"!!

Something similar happened to us when checking into All-Stars in November 2002. This was after midnite. We had a disabled access room connecting to two doubles. Well for some weird reason, they couldn't have all five keys work on both doors. (Something to do with the special needs reservation) Well, the first thing they did was have the wrong keys open the wrong room, and since we had charging priviledges and had already signed the keys, and the boys had UPH passes, we couldn't just swap keys. The next thing was the lock on the two doubles room just would not open. They had maintenance come and replace the battery and recode it, and that didn't work either. They said they would have to replace the whole unit. Well, by this time it was almost 2am and we had been driving for 12 hours and were beat. We could get into the room thorugh the connecting door, so we asked them to please come back the next day while we were in the parks.

Well, at some point during the next day, they must have changed the door, cause all of a sudden, my boys and BIL keys quit working as charge cards and as park entry, so we had to stop in the middle of the day and go back to the resort and get them new IDs issued.

Unfortunately, this can and HAS happened at every resort at WDW. They have such a rapid turnover of rooms and such high occupancy, that I am really amazed that the system works as well as it does.

I hope they NEVER take this system away, because I LOVE the charging to your key feature. When a card gets pulled out and used multiple times per day, it is easier to lose. The WDW card can be cancelled and replaced immediately. While your credit card can be cancelled immediately, it takes AT LEAST 24-48 hours to replace it.

We had keys that would not work at Carribean Beach on a day hotter than......after a two day drive from Chicago with two kids in the car.
In November we had the key to the wrong room in Las Vegas and walked in on a couple in bed. Turns out we were given the wrong room number, when we got the right room number the keys still wouldn't work. But security was very speedy. Don't know if we ever saw those people again, not sure we would reconize them with clothes on.
;) ;) ;)

:) That's funny plutojudy.

It happened to us once at POFQ, got to our room, the correct room, but the keys still didn't work. So we went back to the front desk, got new keys and that time it was fine. I'm not sure anyone but the front desk who makes the keys - would be able to help. It didn't occur to me to ask anyone else or go anywhere else but back there.

It happens everywhere though. We once had a Mom open the door to our room in a Marriott. I had the latch on but it still opened a couple of inches so saw her and kids in the hall. She excused herself and I assume went and got another room/keys. The bad part was after taking my young kids on a grocery run and hauling them and all the stuff up to the room - our keys no longer worked. I guess somehow ours got messed up too when the Mom went to get her situation corrected. So I had to haul an infant, 5 yr old and all the stuff back down to get new keys, and then back to the room. They weren't very helpful or efficient either. Funny I don't jump right to the compensation thing though, I just figure stuff happens sometimes and deal with it. It didn't seem that extreme to me. Perhaps I'd have been more freaked out if someone actually walked into our room but I always keep that latch on.

WOW!!! I just had no idea this happened so much!!! I do know now even during the day time I will have all the other locks on though!!!

our keys stopped working mid way thru and they said it happens all the time ...and if anyone here was in PC 243 70's that was just my husband trying his key in the your door 18 thousand times ( we were in 245) but I did hear others trying their keys in our door at least once or twice a night so keep those those babies bolted!
