HORRBILE STAY AT SSR! We WERE ROBBED!!!

Bottom line is never leave valuables in the car. If you wouldn't do it on home, don't do it on vacation.

To the OP: did you have travel documents with you? I know I never travel without any confirmation documents. Personally all that hullaboo I would blame on AAA they were the ones that screwed up, not Disney.

OP I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you. :sad1: We were in WDW at the same time as you and your family. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Theft can happen anywhere, no matter how much one pays for the room. The reality is that you did not take responsibilty for your items. The items were not stolen from your room, but from your vehicle. This can happen anywhere, and does happen pretty much anywhere. The only thing which one can do to prevent it is to take responsibility and remove the items.

Yep, what she said :rolleyes1

We only had a limited email confirmation with us--- We were originally planning to go in December, and my husband and I, and my parents both got a week off unexpectedly, so we decided to take it while we could (we were going to have to take off in Dec.) so we called the week before and made reservations. We called AAA before we left Friday, October 5, and asked them for all this information and they said Disney would have it for us.

We did not get our AAA paperwork with the confirmation etc. until the concierge called our 3rd of 4 nights there, after we had already been to the waterpark, etc. For this mistake AAA says they gave the paperwork to Disney our first day there, and its Disney's fault they didn't give us the paperwork until late in our trip.

To answer your questions, no the paperwork did not show waterparks options. But, the problem was: If we had booked the trip thru Disney direct, I quoted it online before we booked thru AAA, the price would have been the same price we paid (plus the small discount of course, but my info shows what the price was before discounts) was the same price I quoted online thru Disney with waterparks. And we specifically discussed it and verbally confirmed it was included when I made the reservation.

Thanks for sharing your story. It does contain some valuable lessons:

1. When you check in, be sure you know what is being loaded to your key card.

2. Always have your confirmation papers with you to show what you have paid for and ask to see a manager

3. I will usually unpack my suitcase and then use it to store things that I don't want to leave in the room or car. Were your camera and purchases in the trunk?

4. I have heard of other guests having theft issues at SSR - remember that it is one of the most accessible resorts due to its proximity to DTD via a walking path

Sorry for your pain but thanks for reminding us all of potential problems

All right everyone. You have officially offended me. Are you telling me that just because she just started posting it does not mean anything. I have a small number of posts. But I can tell you I have been on this site for over 2 years. I feel I personally know people like V, DisneylandMama, Bill Linn, Mr. & Miz Diz, just to name a few. I just am not fond of writing, I have never felt stong about writing, I am a confident speaker. So if I come back and have one bad incident, you will say oh look she just started posting. Well wake up folks, I am here all the time and walked through the gate of WDW 30 times in my 35 years, including 18 months old when it Magic Kingdom was only a one year old itself.

So please behave. I understand why she is upset and yes she is right about the cameras, no they are not 100%, but can help sometimes if they are there. Yes, you should never leave valuables basically anywhere like out in a hotel room or in your car. Hey I even take my pocetbook up with me in church, the world is not perfect. But please stop calling her own character into question because of the small amount of posts. You make me not want to post.

Kim

I think we all get obsessed with placing accountability on people. In reality all the Op was doing was sharing their disappointment and sadness with their experience. We can all learn from their experience. I for one will take this experience and learn from it.

Thanks to the Op for posting this experience.

I am sorry that you had such a crappy vacation and that your car was broken into. It sounds like almost everything that could go wrong, did. I am always fearful that I will have a vacation like that. Some things you can control and some things you can't. It's a shame that your vacation package was incorrect and you never did figure out what happened to the pluses that were supposed to be added to your ticket.

I feel worse for you because of the items that were stolen. Yeah - I know you should always bring stuff inside, but I'm sure everyone has left valuables in their car from time to time. Unfortunately, your timing was bad.

I hope your next vacation is 150% better than this was.

We're at nearly 50 replies now and I believe TWO individuals pointed out the OP's low post count.

So please behave. ... But please stop calling her own character into question because of the small amount of posts.

If you ask me, the replies here have been written from many different points-of-view...some sympathetic, some helpful, some trying to inject a dose of reality.

Rather than addressing your comments toward "everyone", perhaps you should consider addressing just those whom you feel are out of line. I think a lot of people who posted on this thread are now have reason to be offended by your comments.

I'm sorry, but am I the only one that finds it interesting that the OP found the DISboards JUST to post this thread :confused3

Nope, not the only one.

Personally, I have 4 Coach bags. When I use them, I wouldn't even DREAM of letting them sit in my locked car in my driveway of my perfectly safe neighborhood that has positively no crime. If they were in the hotel and stolen, I'm pretty sure the management could have acted more.

As far as the dining goes - stuff happens. It's unfortunate that it did.

One of whom is a moderator on this website, so perhaps the indignant poster can direct their concerns to them directly instead of the other 48 posters on the thread

I was not aware there was a post count required to post on this website? Shall I go to a "Newbie" board on here until I am high enough level to post with you all?

There are no requirements of how many posts to have to post a new thread, or post to any thread. Everyone is welcome here. I think this thread is just about done. We don't need anymore jabs at each other. So, if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all-(Flower-"Bambi").

Thanks to the poster who gave the information about the Orange Co Sheriff's website. :thumbsup2 That is very interesting to read what has been reported to the sheriff's dept and for what (for anywhere in the county).
From the website:

The information is based on initial complaints and does not reflect the following:
UCR (Uniform Crime Report) reporting or statistics
Number of Arrests, cases that are Unfounded or cases that are reclassified.

And not to say Disney could not be at fault for the reservation mix up. But the responsibility would fall under AAA, whom you booked with. And I have no idea who screwed up what. But would anyone expect AAA to say -- Oh we screwed up. It's our fault don't blame (fill in the blank of whatever place you are staying)?
Heck, AAA South even lost my car for days once a tow truck driver they commissioned took it to lord knows where. AAA did not want to take any responsibility nor even help find it. We darn near got an attorney just for that alone.

This confuses me.

"But, the problem was: If we had booked the trip thru Disney direct, I quoted it online before we booked thru AAA, the price would have been the same price we paid (plus the small discount of course, but my info shows what the price was before discounts) was the same price I quoted online thru Disney with waterparks. If you booked through AAA, I would think your issues of not receiving certain services were with AAA, if your paperwork stated that is what you had. Too little too late -- but as has been mentioned review your AAA paperwork.
It could have been (not to say it was) Disney was in a bad situation of having to provide your group services that were not in the reservation from AAA. :confused3

Hopefully all is straightened out for you. You have had a rough time. And your story reminds travelers to always be aware of their surroundings and what can happen.
I am sure you feel violated and very frustrated. Sadly, these are lessons learned for future travel anywhere.

BTW -- The 1980 Broadway address would be SSR. I don't know if it is the OP's robbery or not.

Since this was not DVC trip, but a CRO trip booked through a travel agency, I'm sending this to the trip reports board.

I have to say, leaving those expensive items in a car, anywhere, Disney or not, is taking a risk. in todays society, unfortunately crime doesn't stop at the mouse's front gate.

And as far as I know, your ticket type should have been listed on the confirmation you received from AAA.

Disney does no wrong. Sometimes that mentality makes me a little  End of story.

Did you pay for those gifts on a credit card?? If so call your credit card company, Some (at least the one I have) includes 90 day purchase protection, most things, lost stolen or broken in the first 90 days are refunded. I have used it and so have a few of my friends and have had no trouble getting our money back. Hope this helps!

No, but AAA is known for messing up Disney reservations. And as they are the ones who owned this vacation, it is most likely them who messed it up. The CM who messed up her dining was a dingbat.

Op--I'm sorry you had such a horrible vacation. I'm going to take both of your experiences and put them in my "what not to do" file for Disney. It is sad that theft happens on Disney property, but it does. I know that many of us like to feel that we are not out in the real world when we are on a Disney vacation, and this is a strong reminder that we are still in the real world.

Yeah, the timing sounds right. By the way, does anybody else keep inane "stuff" from their trips? This is printed on the parking passes:
This parking pass entitles the holder to park one vehicle as directed as Disney's Resort. The mgmt is not responsible for fire, theft, damage to or loss of the vehicle or any article left within. Please display this parking pass in the front window of your vehicle. Please remove any valuables from your vehicle while parked. The hotel will not be responsible for any property damage or loss incurred due to the action of others. Thank you.
