Hoping to upgrade at the port for the first, any tips on strategy for early arrival?

Not every 4B room has a murphy bed, so even if an upgrade is available at port, you might find you have to deal with the drop-down berth anyway.

On the Disney Magic and Wonder they do. On the Dream and Fantasy, no.

Thanks for all the responses. I totally agree with the folks above who are saying that you really do not want to count on upgrading even if there is plenty of availability. We are simply hoping to upgrade. We are perfectly happy in the current room.

It doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe you'll a good deal. I agree with all the posters above. An example, of the cost of one I refused so it sailed empty. The Walt Suite was open on the Fantasy non-peak time. So I asked what would it Cat. T to Cat R. for 2 people. They quoted me $6000 which shocked me as my original booking was barely less than that.
So it sailed empty and they made a ton of repairs to it during our week.

This is because people ignore their Port Arrival Times. These are scheduled for a reason. IMO, Disney should not let anyone even check-in before their PAT. That would put an end to the madhouse that occurs there.
Since they don't enforce it, DCL should put a shop in there for last minute things and for souvenirs. People with time on their hands spend money.
