Hi everyone! I really enjoy reading all of your posts, although I have never posted anything myself. My boyfriend and I are planning to get engaged in the next month (maybe even on our trip to Disney in 2 weeks!) and I am really getting antsy to start planning our DFTW!! We are hoping for an early summer 2008 wedding, but when I called to set up an appt. to talk over our options, they said I have to wait until 18 months before the wedding! How did/do all of you girls do it?!!
I am from PA and worried that a year before the wedding may not give guests enough time to decide if they want to fly down to FL. Plus, I want to make sure that the expenses are affordable for my family and it's just so long to wait! The wish book doesn't seem to supply EVERYTHING I want to know about, I want to talk to someone!
Any of you brides from far away have any problems with not giving guests enough time to make a decision? What about brides that had their weddings over a holiday weekend, like Memorial Day or Easter, a lot more expensive?? I have so many questions!! I am sorry!!

Thanks!!

Trust me! You have time! Once you get engaged you can start getting feelers out to everyone to see if they would come or not, even though you don't have anything booked definate.. I'm from New York (Long Island to be specific) and when we did our site visit, our SM laughed at us. He said "all of you New Yorkers plan weddings 3 years in advance, trust me, a year out you have plenty of time". He was right... We did a site visit before we were engaged (May) - when we went, we told them that we didn't have a definate date yet. (we really didn't). We were engaged 3 months later in August, and married the following June, so it was less than a year, but we had plenty of time, we already had known what we wanted and had our money saved for the wedding...

Thanks for the reply. That's great you were able to figure things out so quickly. They told me when I called to meet with someone that I need a definite date planned first. It doesn't sound like you did that though, do you think I should call again and just tell them our tentative date, we aren't totally against making the date sooner either.

when i called, we said that we just got engaged, and we were able to set up a site visit when we were in FLA on vacation. You could give them a tentative date maybe so you can start to get some information. And definately take a peek all over this board, this way you can read people's trip reports, see pictures, and this will give you a great idea of what you like/dislike want/don't want!

Dont be sorry thats what we are all here for... I have a similar problem... I am planning the wedding in Nov. 2008 and we cant start the planning until 18months prior.. So I am doing all mu research now so I dont waste the time... Good Luck

I am also from PA. My fiance proposed in Disney on our trip last Christmas. We were hoping to get married next year in Disney. However, I will be moving to Orlando next month which will postpone the wedding due to moving costs. However, my point is our families are mostly from Ohio and Pennsylvania so I was worried about people not being able to come. I have found that from just mentioning our plans to our close friends and family we have gotten an idea of who would come. I was pleasantly suprised that most said they wouldn't miss it for the world regardless of not having any details. Most can't resist the magic of Disney... and hopefully you will find the same! :wizard:

Welcome to the boards! I know what you mean about not thinking your guests will have enough time to plan. We're from WV and most of our family and friends are too. But we've started letting everyone know that we're planning on getting married in FL so they can at least start saving money. My DF and I want to get married in May of 2008 but we were already planning to go on a trip in December this year. We called to set up an appointment and luckily it's exactly 18 months. But we got an SM that is happy to help us with any info we want or any questions we have. :thumbsup2 He sent me pics of the sites we were considering the same day I spoke with him. So you could always just call and ask questions. :)

That's great! I posted this earlier today, but my boyfriend did call to set up an appt. for us in 2 weeks. Needless to say, I am really excited. She told him she will pick us up and drive us around to the sights for the wedding and answer any questions we have. I have heard many of my friends and family say they would love to come and can't wait, but I am crossing my fingers when actual replies come back that say they really will! I won't have to worry about that for a little while, though. 2008 is a little bit away!
