Hey guys I come to you from the Disneyland Paris side of the board. Been to dlp a good few times now, so know it well, but would like to start planning our first trip to Walt Disney world.
Am I in the right place? Hope so :)
We live in Scotland, just me and my 3 year old son. Hope to try WDW next year or the year after. Would love to stay in one of the Disney hotels, maybe a cheap one? What ones should I look At? Minimum stay will be 2 weeks, maybe 3 weeks depending on price etc. My son is autistic and gets an easy access pass at DLP, so we will be able to get one for WDW aswell, so should save on waiting times etc
Don't know what else to say really, other than I'm thinking september/October time so it's not too hot weather as we are not use to it being so hot as we are from Scotland :)

Yes, you are in the right place, welcome!

The cheaper resorts on Disney property are categorized as the Value resorts. Allstar Sports, Music, or Movies, Pop Century and Art of Animation. There are little differences in price even within the category but maybe someone else can tell you if one is always cheaper than the other.

As for time of year expect September to still be quite hot. October can be as well, but if heat is an issue for you I'd choose that month over September. They also have Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party which would probably be a lot of fun for your 3 year old.

Hope that helps. Oh and btw I am in love with Scotland! Haven't been in 12 years now but would love to go back. It was such a beautiful country and the people were just so warm and friendly. Everyone we met treated us like we were family. And I can probably understand your hesitancy about the heat as we were there in July and it was quite cold for us that time of year.

You are definitely in the right place. As the PP noted, the Value resorts are the least expensive. Prices vary: The AllStar resorts are the least expensive. Then Pop. Then AoA. Discounts are periodically offered for resorts at different times of the year. I believe that the UK forum (further down the main page) can help you with special discounts that are only available to visitors from the UK.

I would say that you would be better off looking at a late October visit if you think you would have a problem with heat. September is still incredibly hot and humid.

I know that you are aware that WDW is much bigger than DLP. But most first timers fail to grasp the huge difference in scale until they actually arrive. I would suggest that you read a couple of really good guide books well in advance of your trip. I recommend the Unofficial Guide to WDW.

Welcome!

Like others have said, look at the "Value" resorts first (and look at "Moderate" if the prices are good and you want to check out one step above values).

September and October can be very hot -- I have heard that October can be very nice, but in my 2 trips (early to mid Oct) it felt quite hot and humid -- definitely not what I'm use to.

I've been to DLP -- the parks are so close together there -- at WDW they are very spread out (like 10-15 min bus ride between them). Going for a few weeks is a good idea -- did that when my DD was a toddler and it helped since we were able to take a pool/nap break in the afternoons (when it was really really hot), and we still had enough time to see and do everything we wanted to.

Dining at WDW is a big deal for some people -- they start accepting ADRs 180 days in advance (just something to consider if you like to book your meals ahead of time). There's a lot of info on the dining thread about places to eat.

I hope you have fun planning your trip! WDW is wonderful with the 4 parks and the waterparks (they do have fun areas for little kids). Enjoy!:goodvibes

I can't seem to find the uk forum, do you have a link? I like the look of the art of animation hotel.

Hello from a fellow Scot, we're in Ayrshire :)
I've visited June/July/September/October and I prefer September. It is hot (as in MUCH hotter and more humid than Scotland will ever be!), but it's also very quiet. October I haven't enjoyed so much, found the weather a little unpredictable in terms of temperature.
In terms of the Guest Assistance Card at WDW, it doesn't 'necessarily' reduce wait times - it may simply remove the need to stand in line/wait in a crowd, but may require waiting a length of time somewhere quiet or getting a 'return time'. Procedure varies, and I'm not trying to put you off, I just wouldn't count on it as a guaranteed method of beating lines - I'd use some touring plans too. :)

I've no idea how to do a link, but if you go to the front page of all the dis forums there should be one called "global neighbours". Click on that & UK trip planning forum should be there. Sorry I can't answer any of your questions as we are just about to go on our first trip. But these boards have been a huge help with the planning. Good luck:)
