Hoop-Dee-Doo Yays and Nays

We were seated front and center against the stage. My 9-year-old son was selected.

The show is intentionally corny. We were thoroughly entertained and enjoyed the food, too.

Yay! What did he have to do on stage? Did he have a blast? What a memory.

We were seated right at the stage and my 4 yo Grandson was chosen
We LOVE the Hoop and have been 4 times over the years.

I'll offer a contrary view and say that I'd literally have to be paid to sit through something like that. I mean, there's no way I'd do it...ever. Other people LOVE this experience, I'm not knocking it as one of the things that makes WDW wonderful is that it has something for everyone! But I'll let you know why it doesn't work for me, or people like me.

1) I'm from the south and a decent cook, all the food looks gross compared to the southern food I can walk to in my neighborhood - up or down market, or can make myself. If I couldn't make holy poop amazing cornbread (thanks mom!), I might feel very different. If they had a place that was centered on awesome Northeastern clam bakes (for instance) unlike anything I can get locally, I'd be all over it!
2) I don't like sitting with strangers and don't want to talk to strangers on vacation.
3) Its corny and loud. I am at my limit with loud/chaotic at the parks, dining - FOR ME should be quiet and focused on food. The place should be calm and peaceful. It also puts me off of food court situations. I find those environments downright stressful.
4) The idea of being picked to participate in any kind of show is just NOT for me. I've gotten picked to me the Rebel Spy a bunch and I swear its because I look like I definitely don't want to be. The Dis pointed out I was doing it wrong, and now I hope I can never be put in that position again.
5) I like to have a nice well balanced drink before dinner.

If you have a number of introverted types, they might not be down for this type of dining experience. Again, people love this and other places that are loud and just nothing I want a part of - like 50's Primetime (and some of their silly drinks look it'd be fun at the bar, but the last time I ducked my head in to see if the bar was quiet, it was like a circus), O'Hana, WCC...just, hard nope. Lots of people see this as fun! That's awesome ya'll can enjoy it. I was also the kid that my folks quickly realized that when at a restaurant on my birthday if the whole place was going to sing around a birthday cake and candle, I was going straight under the table. I just have a small tolerance for interactions of this type, so don't roast me, just another side of the coin for consideration.

You are seated at tables only with your party

It is what it is-a western themed dinner show not a refined dining event

Crockett Tavern is a full service bar for pre show cocktails if you would like

I wonder why you even opened the thread that was so against your personal style. And since you know what pleases you, you have never done this. Another opinion is good but it felt a bit over the top and critical. I am not criticizing you, just wondering why Some clarification above.

Yay! What did he have to do on stage? Did he have a blast? What a memory.

He was a Texas Ranger. They directed him around the stage and told him what to do. The only part he didn't like was getting kissed on the cheek by one of the actresses.

And I was too busy taping to eat my dessert!

My brother was in the (different) HDD show when he was a kid.

Awesome memories!

I really appreciate a different viewpoint. Good things to consider. Thanks for your post

Good times. I'm sure it made great video. Sorry about the dessert. Lol

She was asking an open ended question. I know lots of people on these boards (as was the poster) who are making large group decisions. I thought outlining why it wouldn't work for me, might give the OP some points to consider. If she has an introverted party member, it may not be a good a choice. That's all. I've been bad in the past, not at WDW, in selecting restaurants outside of a party members comfort zone (the food was too weird) and I needed to learn to be more thoughtful about the whole party. Apparently Ethopian wasn't "exciting" for her, even though I thought it was amazing. She was uncomfortable and I felt really bad. I'd be uncomfortable at HDDR. But for the open ended questions about the really loud/beloved places at WDW, I think a different opinion might occasionally be helpful. Also, I'm stuck in the house while there is a pollen/air quality warning so I've got plenty of time to post:(

ETA: Totally didn't think you were critizing! I wasn't critizing anyone's choices, just offering a contrary perspective.

I appreciate all viewpoints. Thanks, all

I've been to hoop several times and never had to sit with strangers. Is this a new thing?

I'm an introvert and the food is meh, but still one of my favorite things about Disney world.

I think it depends on your party size and category. We used to be a party of four and booked cat 2 and always got our own table. I am concerned now that we are a party of three that we could have to share one of the larger tables with another family. Since food is served family style I want to be sure everyone has the same hygiene habits (clean hands, no licking fingers during meal, etc.). I don't go to buffets because of the poor hygiene habits of some patrons. Is there a way to guarantee your party is seated at their own table?

I'm Southern and a great cook. If you've been to a good ole southern church potluck, you'll get the same quality food at Hoop-Dee-Doo...imo...probably better. I'm not offended by the food at all.

In the many, many times I've been to the show, never sat at a table with other guests.
ETA: Been a party of 4, 3, & 2, always Category 1 seating
Thanks. I'll check it out.

It's a must do for us, we've done it 6 years in a row.. For us it just "screams disney". such a fun experience!
I'd ramble on but others have posted what is awesome about it :)
