Hoop Dee Doo =X

For us the HDD is a must. Yes it is pricey but it's our one big dinner out when we are at WDW. And yes we would do it even if we weren't camped there. It has been a family tradition since I was young and went with my folk's.

I love the Hoo Dee Doo!

Part of my love is the nostalgia. We always stayed at Fort Wilderness when we were younger. We are now DVC members, but we enjoy having a reason to go to Fort Wilderness.

I would still go if the Hoop Dee Doo was somewhere else. I might not go every year, though.

Now if only they would bring back the open-air trams instead of taking a bus through the campground! :hippie:

Well, you can always visit the Ticket and Transportation center for some open-air tram rides! lol, just kidding! I too miss the trams at Fort Wilderness, they are one of the main facets of "old" Fort Wilderness that I truly do miss!

HOOOP DEEE DOOOOOOOO HOOOOP DEEEEEE DOOOOOOOOOO

Different strokes for different folks.

I love the HDDR and I don't care for California Grill but I don't discourage anyone from trying it, everyone needs to form their own opinion, so my advice is try it a least once and then make your decision as to whether it was worth it.

I will say this (from a working family by the way), I didn't think my 4 sons (aged 9-20 at the time) would like the show, I thought they would think it was cheesy and nerdy. Well, we went to celebrate my 2nd son's graduation from high school and he brought a friend with him (the perfect way to embarass my son right?), so there were 7 of us, and these boys (all of them) loved this show, they were not just laughing out loud, but playing along, yelling and getting really into everything, they also decided to have a rib eating contest. Now, when I ask everyone where is the ONE place they want to eat the answer is HDDR.

Oh, and HDDR is not just for people who camp, lots of other resort guests make the trip over to FW to see this show.

Like I said before, it is not for everyone but then neither is California Grill or Victoria & Alberts.

I thought I'd just jump into this thread as I'd like some information on the HDDR, and you guys seem so much more positive about it. My question is, how is the vegetarian selection? Yup, I'm one of those weird veggie types! I'm not fussy about food, so long as it didn't have to be killed for me to eat it (no meat or fish, but do eat eggs, cheese, etc).

We went to the show in late January of this year and sat next to a table with a vegetarian. He was served the salad (naturally), corn bread (must be no hidden fats in there....) but for his entree they came out with a pretty basic penne with marinara. Looked good - not spectacular. I did not, however, chat him up so I don't know if this is what he selected/anticipated or if it's the one and only entree when opting to go vegetarian.

I have to say..we have been to Hoop-Dee-Doo 3 times. We loved it. I have a May trip planned..and frankly..the price for 5 adults..I'm gonna pass this time around. As much as it's good old fashioned fun...I agree with some of the other posters that say it just may have priced itself out. I was really shocked by the new tier system..and the prices related to it. Almost $60.00 a person..family of 5 almost $300.00...think we'll pass this time. I guess it's different if it's just for two..but add in the kids..who aren't paying the kid prices anymore..and it priced us out.

Corny Jokes Free
So So Food $58
Cheesy Costumes $200 from Disney Wardrobe
Laughing and enjoying yourself at all of the above while in WDW priceless

I wonder if they could just change the age limit on this venue......

A child is surely not going to eat alot of heavy ribs and chicken.....

It's ashame more families can't see this show due to its cost:sad1:

I know they have changed thier pricing to zones (where you sit)..

Last time we were there (Jan. 07) we attempted a reservation and were told that the only seats available were prime seats and we could not use our credits but had to pay outright for them. We broke down and did so. We were seated up front - right behind a big ol' pillar. It was rustic looking and all, but still a pillar.....

Would we go again? If we could get the reservations and be very specific about seating - it's great for our young ones. When my husband and I do our retiree visits to WDW we'd probably skip it. (Already planning for the future don't ya know....)

Also - when we were there one of the cast members mentioned that the show would be down sporadically as they re-finish the hardwood floor inside - that could be why the show wasn't open all the time in February?

Tons of families enjoy the Hoop Dee Doo every night. As has been mentioned, if you can't afford it, there are plenty of other alternatives. I can't afford to go the Hoop Dee Doo every trip, but I don't sit here and complain that it's too overpriced. I simply look forward to the next time I have enough money to make another trip. Disney isn't going to lower their prices, so I can either spend the rest of my time complaining about it, which will solve nothing, or simply look forward to the next time I'm able to afford it and the great time I'll have. I sure as heck wouldn't want to go and sit there thinking about nothing other than how much money I just spent.

I'm sorry I can't afford to go on cruises every other month like some families, or that I'm forced to take a little sailing trip because I can't afford a large cruise ship. Not everyone can afford everything. If Disney were to price EVERYTHING so that EVERY family could afford it, soon it wouldn't even matter, because there would be no more Disney.

Why do people not understand that in the end, Disney is a business? Walt Disney was a businessman. Walt Disney World was created to make money. It was created with great vision, wonderful planning, and a unbelievably remarkable set of guidelines, but still, it's a business.

I'm sorry that some people find Fort Wilderness and some of it's trappings to be beyond their reach monetarily. We all wish that everyone could afford everything. I wish I could go to the Grand Floridian 7 times a year, but I can't. I wish the I could eat at Victoria and Alberts 3 times a year, but I can't. At this point, we're not displaying criticism, we're displaying whining, such as when we were kids and we were upset that our next door neighbor had a bigger Tonka Truck than ours.

Why, may I ask...is someone sitting here complaining about the price..if they simply mention that unfortunately for them...or God Forbid..in their opinion...Hoop Dee Doo is more money than they care to spend on a dinner show. Perhaps it isn't that they "can't" afford it..but rather that they choose to spend their money elsewhere. I have no idea what that has to do with you chosing or not chosing to take a crusie every other month or not. You have your priorities..other people have theirs. Yet if someone so much as mentions that they don't agree with your priority..they are whiners and complainers...and not "positive". I gotta tell ya it's gettin' kind of old. I've been here at Dis for a while..and I appreciate EVERYONE's perspective..and they are entitled to it without being called complaining negative people. The OP had an inquiry..a question..and they received a few different perspectives..that's what the boards are about. I assume they are adult enough to pull out of the information posted what they need and make a decision. Others are simply sharing their experience. I don't feel it's necessary to be critical of someones choice to not dine at the Hoop Dee Doo.

Once again, I had a much larger response written out, but you're starting to turn some of my posts into a personal chat talk between you and I. If you have issues with something that I write, or how I write, or what I write, please send me a personal message over the forums and we can discuss that there. There is no reason to attempt to turn anything into a "flame" war.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, positive or negative. You're criticizing me for criticizing other people, think about it ;)

Monetarily it does effect a majority of guests........

So are you suggesting they raise the tier system to $80/$40 or $100/$50?

Heck lets make it $120/$60 that way the logistics would show that even if half of the people show up they are still ahead monetarily...

I believe wdw is on a slippery slope with hddr.....Again the best and longest running dinner show in all WDW.....

Family still counts at wdw.....I just hope they have not forgot about us...:sad1:

Last I checked, EVERYTHING at Disney effects guests monetarily. It's not like it's JUST the Hoop Dee Doo!

I'm like you, I wish the price WOULD go down. No one would ever want to actually see the prices raised, other than Disney. It's just that you and I deal with the high prices differently is all.

And of course family still counts, and of course Disney still has that as a priority over most other places.

Also, how is the Hoop Dee Doo on a slippery slope? It is still sold out almost throughout the year, if anything, it's as popular as ever. For every family that can't afford to go, there is another family that is willing to step in. I'm not saying that's wrong or right, that's just business.

$58 for adults is steep..... until they see a dropoff in attendance, they will continue to charge the fees.....

Actually, that would be at Disney's expense, not the families ;)

I don't see Hoop Dee Doo prices going up dramatically anytime soon, and like most of you, I too think the price is a bit steep. You do get a lot for the price, but all of us would like to pay less for anything!

However, it's still a pain in the butt to get reservations for that show unless you're going on a really dead weekend or if you made them far enough in advance. As GatorDad mentioned, they obviously are still seeing a very packed show, so don't expect any changes soon. It's been a long time since I've seen Disney "lower" the price on anything :/

Lowering the price and/or increasing the age for children would be feasible to both ;) families and wdw.

Lowering the price is only feasible to WDW if it means their profits increase ;)

As for increasing the age for children, right now, the age limit is 3-9. I think that is a very reasonable age range (that is what most companies follow), and plenty of kids age 10+ have no problem eating their fare share. I understand where you're coming from, but if you raise it to 10, than people will say why isn't it 11. Then you raise it to 11, and people wonder why a 13 year old has to pay adult prices.

I know kids that are 10 or 11, and they can easily eat an adult share of food. IF anything, raise it to 10, but I can't see why they would raise it above that.
