I am sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything specific.

Here is my question, which is better HDD or SOA?

We are going to the world in September and have not done either show and we can only do one during our trip.

So, I am asking for your reviews.... thanks!!!

We have done & liked both. We prefer the Hoop though. Both had good food, but we just thought Hoop's was better. I remember the Luau feeling a little long toward the end, but some people might not like the cornyness of the jokes at the Hoop, which I did. It depends on if you'll think the cornyness is lame, or funny.

We have done both also and I would vote for HDDR, especially if you are bringing kids. We travel with my inlaws and have younger kids, we all enjoyed both. However, the beginning of the Aloha show is kind of long and they got alittle bored with it. HDDR we have done twice and has kept everyones attention both times.

There have been many threads on this over the years and nearly all of them come out overwhelmingly for the Hoop. I love the Hoop, but haven't done the Luau. I've done several in Hawaii and don't feel the need. Plus both get expensive and I always love the Hoop, even after about 8 viewings.
But maybe this time the Luau will win. It's been going a while, so some must love it. I have a feeling either way, you can't lose.

We did SOA Sept 2008. Loved the atmosphere and food - delicious! The only problem was my boys 6 and 8 got bored after dinner and we actually snuck out before the flame throwers and headed back to MK.

It really comes down to your mood IMO. HDDMR has more extensive audience participation.

We did both this past September, and did not care for SOA. I think we just had a crappy server, and crappy people next to us, so that kinda ruined it. We had also eaten at Ohana's a couple nights earlier, and thought the salad and bread were entirely to similar. I think for a large group it would be so fun, especially if all dressed up in Hawaiian gear. As for HDDMR, we loved it! Even my 2 year old was laughing..not that he knew at what! I think it comes down to what kind of food you prefer?? I also found HDDMR much more entertaining. Food was pretty good too! We went on our last night, and it was a great way to go!

Hope that helps, feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

Oh yes and that too.. SOA lasted foreverrrrrrrrrrrrr. The dessert stunk too! LOL!

HDDR--no contest!:thumbsup2 It has great comfort food(salad, fried chicken, ribs, cornbread, baked beans, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and strawberry shortcake), funny for all ages show, and unlimited beer and sangria! How can you beat that?:confused3 This is a must do for us every trip.:goodvibes If you search this topic on the boards, HDDR wins overwhelmingly on every thread.:worship:

How old are your kids? I have a 2 1/2 year old and was considering HDDR. I wanted to do something other than character dining that will keep her attention.

We have done both and like them. Although HDDR is our hands down favorite and a must do nearly every trip. SOA is a corny show at times, but the food and service for us has always been good. HDDR has very good food, service and alot more audience participation.....kids love the show and always have fun.

Our first trip to the world we chose HDDR and LOVED it!! Kids were 6 and 9 and had a great time--DS6 laughed the whole way through. Now we're planning on going back next year, kids will be 9 and 12 and I was wondering the same thing as you...HDDR or SOA? It will be a bigger group for us this time...more family so 9 in all, but none of them have been to WDW at all so we might do HDDR again if it seems like the better of the 2 choices. With other posters saying they've gone multiple times, sounds like that's the route to go! Have a great trip!

We have also been to both shows many times over the years, we still prefer the HDDR. We do like both shows, but the HDDR just tickles us. We still try to go at least once a year if we can.

I guess we are not with the majority. We have been to both and we do love both of them, but our favorite is SOA. I think it depends on what you like. We liked the food better at SOA, but definitely the dessert is better at HDD. The shows are both good, just in different ways. It could be because we got excellent service at SOA compared to our 2 times at HDD we got fair service 1 time and very bad the last.
