Wondered if anyone has gone to this show. It sounds like it would be fun, does everyone participate and how? Or is this too hokie? Me and DH have a son who will be 9 when we go to WDW.

HDD is lots of fun. Pretty corny but still fun. The only participation is clapping to the songs the cast sings and there are times they pull people out of the crowd to help with the skit.

We saw this dinner show in March and my DS loved it! The actors sing and dance throughout the dinner. They do give you short breaks to actually stop and enjoy your meal. They interact with the audience and make it very personable. Their humour is so pathetic that I found it hilarious! :rotfl2: DS got to play along with the washboard. There is a lot of hoot'in and hollar'in and tons of napkin waving! The dinner was not bad, but the show was awesome. I would have no problem paying that price again. It was a great time. :charac2:

One more thing, they take your picture prior to you enterting the hall. The picture is taken in front of an old barrel and wagon wheel - it was a cute keepsake to our fun evening. I think it was $25 for a framed 5x7, fridge magnet photo and a keychain.

We just went a few weeks ago with my almost 8 year old niece and nephew (twins) and they loved it! They are planning a return trip already! The food was good too!

I've been 3 times, most recently in May with my DH (first timer). We LOVED it, and didn't find it too hokey. Very funny. Audience participation is just clapping along for the most part, though they do zero in on some guests and ask if you want to be involved. You can always say no =)

We are trying to plan a time to go and see this show. Thanks for all the reviews.

This show was a riot! Lots of corny jokes and we all laughed a lot! Lots of food – good fried chicken but no one really liked the ribs. Corn, beans, salad and strawberry shortcake. I had the sangria and mom's mason jar full of wine was pretty funny. Dad got picked on and it was soooo funny. We all had tears in our eyes.

Got some great shots of the lady sitting on his lap. I don't think I have ever seen my parents laugh that hard. They sang happy birthday to us and ragged on the way my 8 yr old nephew pronounced Aunt. And at the end he said said "Aunt Kathy you have to take us here more often!" I was so glad everyone enjoyed themselves as it is kind of expensive and something I had always wanted to try.

The best way would to be to go to the MK and take the very nice boat ride to the campground. It does make a short stop at WL. On the way back they have buses standing by to take you to your resort or if you are going to an early show, you can take the same boat back to MK and then the bus back to SSR..smjj

Hokie? YES, Food? Okay, Would I do it again? No, Was it a whole lot of fun?

absolutely

It was great fun, my family enjoyed it very much myself, HD,DS's 7 & 11. I dont think we will do it again (at least not for several years) but everyone should go at least once.

ps- If you go by boat from MK make sure you plan plenty of extra time to get there. We left POP (disney trasportation) an hour and fifteen minutes before we needed to be there. We got to MK and took the boat over and arrived ten minutes late. It was so stressfull after spending all that money I did not want to miss anything. Thankfully, they tell you to arrive early so we ended up being right on time. I just hated the feeling stressed on vacation! :scared:

We have done it twice and our family loved it!!!! Its alot of fun the food was good and so were sangrias!!:cool1:

I was wondering if someone could tell me the best way to get to HDR from Pop?

Hope someone can help. :earsgirl:

You can go to the MK and take the boat to the WL or take a bus there from any of the parks.

As I said quoted above we stayed at POP and took the bus to MK and then a boat over to FW where HDDR is. Though it took us a while to get there I doubt that is normal. My two boys really enjoyed boat ride each way.

DS and I went there in 2002 and we both left with our stomach hurting from laughing so much. It's an absolute must see show :rotfl:

HDDR is a lot of fun. We've gone there everytime we've gone to WDW and we were thinking of not going this next time because in twelve years the same people do it with the same jokes, but it'll be my fiance's first trip so I'm making everyone go one more time. :) I think you'll love it!

I've got the same picture of Dolly and my Dad!!! We've gone every year for the last 5 trips. We love it!! This year there was 12 of us and we wore matching t-shirts. The t-shirts and the fact that we are not a quiet group tended to get us noticed. My MIL's SO got picked for the end part, you know the very last one.....I don't want to give anything away... Anyway, the show is funny and the food ok. I've bought the pictures every year and have them all on my refrigerator. It's so neat to see the changes in the kids each year. I would definately try it at least once.

I know I'm in the minority, but I can only take so much of the corny humor. And the washboard noise at the end is truly intolerable. We saw the show about 15 years ago. Then, went a couple of weeks ago with 9 year olds who'd never seen it. The kids laughed alot at the juvenile humor. The adults, however, felt that once every 15 years is more than enough.

As for the food, the beans were very good, the corn, ribs and chicken pretty good, the bread okay. But, the dessert was a gloppy mess.

Frankly, I much prefer the luau, even the current version, but as I said, I know I'm in the minority.

I enjoyed it, and my 9 yo nephew and 7 yo niece loved it, but I don't think I'd go back again unless somebody else was paying. I'm kind of baffled when I read of large families that go every trip.

I'd heard raves about the food, but it was school cafeteria stuff as far as I was concerned. If you consider it a show with some food thrown in I guess it's worth it, but don't go for the food :)

The food is good, and the show is very entertaining (silly, but lol entertaining). If you are going to enjoy the beer/wine/sangria remember to have photo id with you. I am 38 (and very much look it), and they would not serve me, but served my husband.

I would totally go again.
