Hoop-Dee-Doo or Luau??

thought i had my mind made up to do the Hoop-Dee-Doo, but now i'm not sure! my cousin told me she thought the luau was more fun and better food. BUT she doesn't have children and hasn't done either in a few years. we will be a party of 6 adults and 3 children who have never done either. what are your opinions on either one, food and show. TIA!!

We have done both. We liked the Luau well enough but the food part was not all that great. I pretty much ate fresh pineapple and the bread!! Dh thought the chicken was just okay. Dd ate mac and cheese, as usual. The show was nice though.
For HDDR...the food was about the same, as far as we were concerned. Although, I did eat salad, bread and one rib. We liked the show. In fact, dd has asked to celebrate her 13th b-day there. I booked it about 2 months ago!!! If you have kids going, I would think that HDDR would be a better bet.
Be sure to book early for the better seats.

We always do the HDDR with our kids. This year they are 6 and 3, and have been several times each. Last August my parents, DB and SIL joined us on our trip. We did the HDDR the first night and everyone loved it, including the food. (I love the ribs and the strawberry shortcake!) My parents, DB and SIL went to the Luau a few nights later. They said the food was OK, but the show was boring and not worth the $$ at all in comparision to the HDDR. In fact they left early and met up with us as we were leaving MK.

We've done both also and really enjoyed the food and the show at HDDR a lot more! My dh and I enjoyed the food at the Luau (except for desert) well enough and they did provide some kid options for my ds, but we did not really enjoy the show! In fact it was pretty boring at times. The high point was when they did the fire dance! Also from where we were sitting, the sound was terrible (bad sound system). After seeing the Lion King show the day before at AK, we were really dissapointed we had actually paid to see such a bad show! But, we loved HDDR! The food was great (we loooved the fried chicken) and the show was really funny! We did HDDR in March, and my 8yo ds still talks about it!

We've done both, and I can say we definately enjoyed HDDR much more! We've actually been back to HDDR several times, but no one has even thought about doing the luau again. But both the food and show are great at HDDR. A great time for all.

glad to hear such good things about Hoop-Dee-Doo!! i really was excited about going and my cousin suprised me by saying the Luau was much better! but like i said, it has been a few years since she did either. i will definitely pland on HDD then!! THANK YOU FOR THE REPLIES!!

We also have done both and enjoy HDD much, much better. We will be going for the third time this fall.
