Hoop Dee Doo or Cirq

I love La Nouba!!! (and Hoop De Doo, but I'd put Cirque first!)

We did both Cirque and HDDR in March, with our ds that had just turned 8! He loooooved both! He is still talking about both of them! They are very different, but both very enjoyable for kids! :cheer2:

Another vote for Cirque du Soleil,I went once a few years ago and I will be up bright and early next Thursday the 1st day I am able to buy my ticket for a show in November,I found it truly amazing, you won't be sorry!!!! :)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your comments. Though it has made a tough decisions even harder as they both sound great and both have gotten good/bad reviews.

I thought I'd provide a little more info as to who is going along for this trip. We are taking my 60yr DM with us this time along with my DS age 12. My DM is not an animal lover but my DS is so I'm not sure what he'd think about a circus without the animals. I think my DM would love it though. However, when asked DM answered she wants to see both equally so I'm not sure what to do. We will be celebrating DM birthday this trip so I want to do something special for her but am not sure which or if there is something else I should consider????

Thanks everyone!!!!!!

Hands Down....Circque.... It will take your breath away!

I have done Hoop two times and have always had a great time, with decent food. But I will never forget Circque...... :earseek:

We have done both. If I had to choose just one to redo..it would be Cirque. Now, my dd has asked to celebrate her 13th b-day at HDDR. So, we made PS for 10/06. Am I thrilled? Nope, but it's her b-day. Corny show, very mediocre food. Fun? Yes. Should be done at least once.
But Cirque? My dd was 8 when we went and she loved it. Even dh who doesn't care for theater in any way enjoyed it. It is so much more than a 'circus'. It's just incredible. But, it is expensive. And when you add dinner on top of your Cirque tickets, well, you're spending a bunch of money. That may be the clincher for you.

Cirque gets my vote! It's an awesome show. We have seen two different productions and both were fabulous. It's truly an experience. I would choose it any day over a corny dinner show.

Boy, HDDR is taking a beating here. I disagree about the food being awful, but that isn't really why you go to this show. It is a fun, party atmosphere and for a birthday, HDDR is a great choice. They announce special occasions, birthdays, etc, during the show, so your DM could be in the spotlight for a moment.

I've done both with our grandkids, ages 8 and 4 at the time. My DH is the same age as your DM. While we loved both, for a special birthday treat, we'd have to say La Nouba. Its really nothing like a circus and you won't miss the animals. During the middle of the show, my 4 year old grandson came close, took my face in his hands and said, "are they real?" Its truly amazing and you won't be disappointed.

Well, let's see...
clowns, jugglers, acrobats, high wire acts, trapeze artisits, trampoline and aerial ballet acts...

It is a good show, and referring to it as a circus isn't a disparaging remark. They even refer to themselves as a circus as in "cirque".

Cirque du soliel!!!

HDDR is a lot of fun very disney..Cirque is not disney at all in style but the most amazing, once in a lifetime type a show... we did it last year and loved it!!!!

Once we make a choice (not sure yet) do I need to order the tickets now or can I wait until we arrive? Depending on the weather our plans may change and since both tickets are nonrefundable/transferable I don't want to be stuck.

We are going in July and are all AP holders if this makes a difference?

The sooner you order your tickets, the better your seats will be. The shows do sometimes sell out, but I would imagine if you're not choosy about the seating, you would probably be able to get seats for either once you arrive. There are normally 2 Cirque shows per night and 3 HDDR shows, so being flexible helps too. Good luck!

Yes, I agree it is a "circus" as the title says, but it is not an American style circus that you have ever seen. I sat with my mouth open in amazment the entire time. The music and the performance takes my breath away.

It is more comperable to a broadway show than anything. The HDDR is a Disney mainstay, and a tradition. As the other posts say, it's like comparing apples and oranges. Either way, you will have a blast, but very different experiences.

Enjoy!

If you could only do one of the following which would it be?

Hoop Dee Doo or Cirq with dinner at a DTD restaurant

I'd do HDD.

But you (and your family) might prefer something else. Why not tell us something about your party first? How many people? Ages? Likes/dislikes? entertainment preferences?

I would love to see Cirque. What ages (children) are appropriate for the shows? I've noticed there are several groups touring at this time. We went to HDDR and I have to agree that the food very overpriced for what you get! HDDR has it's moments but it gets old.

I think the poster that mentioned that Cirque wasn't really a circus was probably referring to the hokey announcer yelling 'And in this ring, the man eating lion' type of circus. Yes, it has all the typical elements of a circus, minus the animals, but it is much more artistic and beautiful than a man riding a motorcycle in a metal ball ;)

I was wondering why people were referring to attending Cirque due to purchasing the Dining Plan? Is there some special that you can get with the dining plan that is a dinner & show combo like you can do for Fantasmic? Tell me more! :Pinkbounc

::MickeyMo That's a tough one. We've done both and love both. However, we make sure we do HDDR everytime we go. We only did Cirque once. Plus, they have their other shows around the world. I enjoy seeing the different shows. ::MinnieMo

Having done both I would say that if I could only do one I would do Cirque - it is absolutely amazing! HDDR is fun and entertaining but Cirque is spellbinding! It was one of the highlights of our trip! I'm hoping to see one of their other shows out in Vegas someday! We had my parents and daughters who were 5 and 9 at the time and everyone agreed that it was one of the most amazing things we had ever seen (and we are big theater people). Don't let the name fool you - this is not your average circus!
