My wife and I will be taking our 6 1/2, 4 1/2 and 22 month old daughters to Disney in October. We will be spending a few nights at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds and we were wondering which dinner show would be better to take our kids to? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Though I love Hoop Dee Doo- For your age kids the BBQ is my vote- The kids dance with the characters and see a western rope show- lots of music and fun and they can get up and down and dance!- My boys 6 and 3 love it- it was the highlight of our trip in Dec 07!

How was the food at the Backyard BBQ? Typical chicken nuggets, etc. for the kids??

The food at the BBQ when we went in Dec that I remember

BBQ chicken and ribs- pretty good
Corn- corn on a buffet what can I say
Cold slaw
Beans
Corn bread
Potatoe Salad
Mac and Cheese
Mixed Salad
and other stuff I am sure I don't remember
and All the different kinds of Disney Ice cream- the ones you pay 5 bucks for in the parks for dessert- they are just in big coolers help yourself
This in not like other buffets- VERY informal and more like what it says a Backyard BBQ on picnic benches in a large pavillion- I have to agree that though the food is almost the same it is better at Hoop Dee Doo as it is fresher and the chicken is fried- If you decide to go to BBQ get there 30minutes before your tickets say so you can get a decent table. This is really for the kids entertainment the way we see it- We find it better interaction with the characters then CP or CM (never been to LLT) but if the characters are not an issue Hoop Dee Doo is also on our once a year must list! (I feel like I sound crazy just writing this - I guess we are Disney Fanatics:scared1: )
Beer and wine (not great quality I recommend the bud light for this night) for mom and dad! Yahoo!! Enjoy!! Also if you are staying long enough you can always go to both!

Thanks for the feedback on the food. How long is the show? Is it ongoing or are there several different shows each night?? If I understand correctly the BBQ is only open on Thursday and Saturday nights?? Thanks again

i have no idea about the schedule...check wdw's webiste that should say something. From what i remember about the show, as you go inside you grabbed your plate and eat what you wanted, then you could go down the stage, floor area and they would play music and the characters would be there and that would be the rest of the BBQ. Then you could leave whenever after that

My friend just came back last week and went to Mickey's BBQ..she was not impressed! actually she didn't like it. The food was not good..the food they offered was~

BBQ Chicken..the only thing they liked
spareribs
Hamburgers..no one liked them
Hotdogs
Mac and Cheese
beans
corn on the cob
potato salad
cole slaw
watermelon
Ice cream
Beer and wine were included (bud light) it made it better

The characters~ Chip and Dale, Mickey and Minnie and Goofy

They ended up leaving early because it was chaotic...not worth 2 TS..

I am booked for The HDDR in August which has consistantly receives excellent reviews. ;)

We went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ last Sep during Free Dining. It cost 2 credits. It was not worth even 1 in my opinion. The food is your standard BBQ fare and you eat in a big picnic table pavilion. It was so crowded it was hard for the kids to see the characters and the MC kept yelling at everyone to sit down. If you wanted to go to the bathroom you had to tell him so he'd let you get up - just like elementary school. I have not been to Hoop-Dee-Doo, but I would say avoid the BBQ.

We love both. We did the Barbecue 2 weeks ago with a 2 yr old, 10 month old, 2 25 yr olds, 4 30 yr olds, and 2 60 yr olds. Everyone had a blast. You have to really get into the dancing and activities. I thought the food was pretty good, but it was barbecue. truly I didn't have a lot of time to focus on the food as my kids wanted to get out on the floor and dance. The Hoop Dee Doo Review is also a lot of fun. It depends what your looking for in the experience.

If you want to get up and dance go to the Barbecue.

If you want to sit and be entertained go to the Review.

Honestly, we like both and when we go back in May we are doing the Review Friday night and the Barbecue on Saturday night

My family loves hoop-dee-doo. The first year my dd's were 4 and 2 and really enjoyed the show. Loved it even more last year at 5 and 3 and can't wait til we go this year. I feel the food is decent. Maybe not the best, but good. My kids love the butter that goes with the cornbread. I have to tell you, we did this show when I was little and I remembered loving it. When I went back with dh and kids I was afraid my dh wouldn't love it, but it ended up being a high point in our trip. We have never done the bbq, maybe someday so I can't help you there.

I would definitely do HDDR over the MBB . We have done both. The MBB was OK but the HDDR was just a lot better. My kids were 18months, 4yrs and 9 yrs. when we went to the HDDR and they had an absolute blast. We were gonna do the Luau this time we go but Ive been hearing poor reviews so I am actually thinking of doint the HDDR again.
