We are planning a WDW trip for December 2010, and our son will be 21 months old at the time. Would he enjoy the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue at that age?

This might seem like a dumb question, but the show is pricey in my opinion and I'm not exactly in love with the show, but if it would be fun for my little one then I would definitely put it in our schedule.

Thanks for any advice!

I feel that 2yo is probably a little young to really like it. Two hours is a long time and a 2yo may not really get what's happening. But I'm sure folks have done it successfully.

You indicate in your post "I'm not exactly in love with the show." It doesn't change, so if you have been once, you can probably gu-estimate your son's reaction. Maybe you mean you are not in love with the idea/description.

No, you are correct. I have seen the show before and while the cast of performers are obviously talented at what they do, its just not my style of entertainment. But this trip is not about me in the least as it will be my son's first trip to WDW.

Its hard for me to guesstimate his reaction because he will probably be a slightly different boy 8 months from now and he's never watched a show even remotely close to a production like Hoop Dee Doo.

I was already thinking that he might not be able to appreciate the show at that age, but I just don't want to short-change him by not providing the opportunity to see it. For all I know he could have the time of his life at the revue!?!?

Thanks for the reply.

Back in 1979 we brought our daughter there when she was 20 months old. While she doesn't recall it, she had fun there! The show and food should keep the little ones attention!

I can't speak from our experience, as we chose to 'put it off' at that age. This will be dd#2's 4th trip, and we're just now doing HDDR with her. I went at 5yo, my dd's will be 7.5yo and 4.25yo. Since it's not the sort of thing I'm going to want to do every trip (it's entertaining, food's fine, but there are many other ways I'd choose to spend the time, personally). I didn't want to go when it won't be remembered so that we didn't have to go again within just a couple years. IMO, they're now old enough to remember it, really enjoy the humor, and not so old as to find it "corny" (perhaps I'm just projecting, but I'm thinking it's not high on cool-factor amongst tweens/teens). Plus, I probably won't have to do it again for another 25-30 years or so (hopefully then w/ my grandchildren!). JMO.

I will say, my dd#2 *really* enjoyed the character dinners at that age - Mickey and the princesses especially. Since she wouldn't have recognized anyone at HDDR and wouldn't have been as interested in the humor I think she'd have been less enthused.

I would not do it just for a two year old. If the family wanted to go, she would be fine and enjoy dancing to the music but I certainly would pick other things if you are making choices based solely on what she may like. A character meal (two for the price of HDDR) may be a much better choice. Crystal Palace is great for toddlers!!!

Do check out FW with her if you have extra time. The boat ride over is fun. Visit the horses and let her just run around a little bit!!

Thank you all for the replies and the advice. I really appreciate it!

It depends on the 2 yo. My older son saw it at 2 and loved it. He also loved it again at 5. My younger son saw it at 2 and would not sit still. I still don't think he would sit for the show. It just depends on the child.

I wouldn't go just for the child. They'd probably have more fun at a character meal.
