I've contemplating doing the HDDR this trip. We've been visiting WDW almost yearly since 1998 and we've still never done the HDDR. Looking at the prices, for our family of 4, it will be $165+ OOP for Category 3 seating (that includes a $24 prepaid gratuity).

Those of you who do the HDDR, do you pay OOP or buck up and use 2 dining credits? Seems steep either way. :scared1:

When we went in '08 used our DDP. I had planned all the TS we wanted to go to and then I looked at how many tix we had left. I checked menu prices and decided it was worth it to use the tix rather than pay OOP for the restaurants we had left over.

We actually ended up going off property to the Ale House one night - we used to go there when we were CM and missed it since we moved, so it worked out perfectly :thumbsup2

Last year we paid OOP for the HDDR as I wanted Cat 1 seating. FOr us, it was worth it.
You will love HDDR, it is great

We have done both, used DDP and paid OOP for cat 1 seating. I'd just look at what else you want to do and if you have the extra credits, use them. If not, pay OOP. I'd probably try to use the credits elsewhere, but how much time do you want to spend at TS places?

I pay OOP when we go to HDDR. However, while on the regular DDP (1 TS, 1CS, 1 snack) HDDR is the only restaurant on property I can justify using 2 TS credits for. We are huge fans of HDDR. I have gone to it on most of my trips, with the main exceptions being when I went with school and when I went with my summer camp. As of now we are skipping it on our next trip, but we have a day open with no meals planned, so who knows?

On a side note, we actually prefer the Cat. 3 seating. We have had a couple of times where either someones view of the stage gets blocked or random people from a nearby table move their seats so they were practically on top of us, neither of which is an issue up in the balcony. Also, the show does have audience participation and the actors do come up into the balcony, so you wont feel left out. :thumbsup2

We use 2 TS credits and this place is a must. The HDDR is amazing you will not be disappointed. I would pay OOP if I was not on the dining plan but we usually are.

I always do the 9:30 show, use 2 credits and book as far out as possible to get Cat 1. In '09 our table abutted the stage. I booked at 184 days this year, so hope for the same table.

In 2009 we went to Hoop Dee Doo and paid out of pocket for Category 1, and last month I paid out of pocket for Spirit of Aloha for Category 1. Both times it was worth paying out of pocket. They say using 2 credits for one meal on the DDP is not a good way to go. I have used 2 credits on California Grill and Hollywood Brown Derby and feel it was worth it!!!
