Hoop-dee-doo and serious food waste.

We will be doing Hoop de doo are next trip:cool1: and the waste factor is ye poping but really no diffrent the any other restraunt. You would not belive the amount of food that gets trashed at the end of the night just at your local restraunts. Disney by no means Is in the minorty here, its everywhere. Its just something that happens at restraunts. Dont feel bad eather!, where on vacation spending money that in retrospect could go to feed the poor the home less right?. Going out to eat Is like going on vacation Its a Indulgence. We propally can go even greyer if we went through our days and lives about the amount of waste we could avoid. Enyjoy your vacation, your meal you desserve it. You only have one life to live, yours:goodvibes

I've been twice to the Hoop De Doo Review as a party of two and have felt the same way. Especially since I'm vegetarian and the person I dine with is not, it ends up being a TON of meat for that person. Same thing for Ohana.

While it is a shame to waste so much food, I realize that they do it to be time efficient, seeing as it is a multi-course dinner show, where everything should be served at a specific time. I believe that since it is an all-you-can-eat family-style meal, they want to give people more initially, so fewer parties will be needing refills.

Now when we go to places in WDW where food is served this way, we definitely let the server know if there is anything we will not be needing ahead of time. It certainly doesn't change the system, and even if it has already been cooked then maybe it can be donated since it hasn't been put in front of us.

All of the family style restaurants seem to have 1 serving platter size and just bring extra to bigger or hungrier groups. If this bothers you perhaps you should avoid family style meals? When we dined at Hoop we asked not to have beans (no one eats them) or ribs because I was the only one who eats them and I wouldn't eat more than 1 so didn't want to waste an entire bucket. At Hoop many of the foods are also served on the Trail's ENd Buffet so food never served probably does get eaten.

There is food waste no matter which restaurant you choose, at WDW or anywhere else. It's part of making a profit. They need to serve the food quickly and turn over the table for the next seating. The only difference with family style meals is that you see the food that's uneaten. If it bothers you, you don't want to work in a restaurant!

If everyone in the world thought that way, it would be really scary. :confused3
What does it matter if it was paid for? (((head scratch)))

Because, the key phrase is paid for. Your concern about "waste" is in complete disregard for the economics of the food being bought and paid for. Somebody who had a hand in the process somewhere along the way, be they someone working on the chicken farm, the processing plant, the logistics company (shipping/delivery), etc, might be eating in a soup kitchen if not for the jobs provided by disney "buying" and then "wasting" (your term) the chicken.

You should read some Milton Friedman.

Just think the couple after you probably thought it was too little food, and the couple after them thought it was just right.

Could it be because it's a show and they want to avoid running around the place with platters of food during the show, obstructing guests' view?

We had dinner at family-style restaurants several times and they didn't bring huge amounts of food at a time, but they came back regularly to ask if we wanted any more.
