I've read many good things about this over and over again and always mean to include it in our itinerary, but when it comes time to "make the cuts" to fit our budget, this always seems to be one of the first things to go.

Is this a must do or not? How does it compare with other dinner shows you've seen off WDW property (like Dixie Stampede, etc?)

Well the food is just OK. You're definitely paying for the show which is really fun. Very corny but so well done.

I don't think I'd do it if it meant giving up a favorite dinner, but if it fits the budget try it.:D

Give it a try! :)

We just saw it for the first time as a family at the beginning of Feb. and had a blast! All three of us DH, DD (2yo) and myself enjoyed the show and liked the food. The ribs were a little dry, but the chicken was very tasty. We also had corn, beans, bread, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. They also brought DD some mac 'n cheese. You also had a choice of beverages including beer and sangria.

We will be doing it again, next time! Since you've already been to WDW, it's a nice "new" thing to do.

We love Hoop Dee Doo and go every 3-4 years. If you've never been it's certainly worth it. Everyone should try it atleast once. The food is basic, something for everyone....not gourmet but not bad either. The show is great.

We're in your same boat. Thought for sure we would give it a try this May, but now I am backing off. It is quite expensive and I am having a hard time justifying it. Now leaning toward an extravagant dinner instead. Though I have no doubt we would love the show, a nice dinner paired with good wine is mighty inviting. Our girls our now 4 and 7 so we can once again enjoy relaxing family meals.

We have been to HDDR and just love it!!!!We go for the show and have seen many cast changes over the years, all have done great job with the material. The food is ok with the fried chicken being our favorite. It is must do for us with great songs and corny humor and slapstick comedy.I would advise you to do HDDR on one of your trips when it fits budget. We get 10º/º discount with our AAA membership.:D

We actually thought that the food was good(not great) but the show was lacking. We were also seated toward the back and found that unless you had an anniversary or birthday, you were not likely to be participants in the show. Would we do it again? Probably not but we are glad that we went. I LOVED Fort Wilderness. My kids couldn't get enough of the petting zoo, hayride after the show etc.. If I could have changed my Poly LV Conc. to FW without losing a fortune, I just might have done it. Threehearts

I'd do it at least once. Food isn't great, but plenty of it. And the show--while corny--is pretty good and even Uncleromulus was banging away on his washboard after awhile!!
And seeing Ft Wilderness and the Pioneer Hall area is nice too.

It's and every second or third year event for us, usually when we are bringing along WDW first timers. Show is fun, food is OK, it's a good time and I'd say that if you can squeeze it into the budget, go for it. Sometimes they offer discounts (AP, DC,etc.) to the late show, so check into that as well, it might help!

I think it's a good thing to do if you've never done it before but it is really a dinner show so you're paying for the entertainmnent too. The food is ok unless you like gourmet eating. I was suprised that our daughter liked it so much. She will be 7 by the time we go back in June and she wants to see it again. This will be her 3rd (4th?) time so she does enjoy it.

I have seen Dixie Stampede (in Myrtle Beach) which I liked but I never thought of comparing it to Hoop Dee Doo as it would be like comparing apples and oranges because the two types of shows are so different. Dixie is far more of a large, extravagant production with western events in a field house like atmosphere. Hoop Dee Doo is mainly a single stage production in a dining hall designed to look like an old western bar and stage hall. The show is very good (also very corny but plays on both the adult and child level very well). Food is fine. Go and see it at least once.

If you are looking for something more of the extravaganza type of show, then consider instead Cirque du Soleil, which is by far the best show in WDW, in Florida, in the Southeast US.

My mom, my DD(15 at the time) and I really enjoyed HDD. WE thought the food was good, for a family style place and mass serving. The show was indeed corny but that was the fun part!! We will go to this again, just because we had so much fun!

I think some people like it and some don't, but if you've never tried it, you should and form your own opinion. The price is a little high, but when you factor in 2+ hours of singing, dancing, corny jokes and a meal with dessert, it really isn't out of line, with other dinner shows in the area.

The food is mediocre at best but the show is fun. We have seen it twice and do not feel we need to see it again. Now CDS is not to be missed and worth any budget cuts, JMHO.

A friend of mine goes to Disney every year and goes to HDD each visit. She said it was a must so we did. This show was not for us. The food was OK but as a previous poster mentioned, if your table is far away, your simply ignored. My DS fell asleep during the show. It was boring for me also. The show is just way too hokey for me. I suggest when your budget allows you try it but don't put off something else just to do this show. I also think if you are staying at the Wilderness Lodge or at Fort wilderness you may enjoy the show more. We were staying at the Poly and loved the luau because it felt like an extension of the resort. I'm sure we would have enjoyed the HDD more if we were in that western state of mind.

we went for the first time last year. I was not sure if I wanted to go. It was enjoyable. At first my son looked completely bored but then he started to get into it. It is worth going at least once. After the show you can go sit on the beach and wait for the water pageant parade to begin. That is what we did. One thing I did not like was the bus trip back to the parking lot. It seemed like they stopped every where until you finally get to the parking lot.

Reasons NOT to go to the Hoop De Doo:
Expensive, mediocre food, corny show.
Reasons to GO to the Hoop De Doo:
Corny show (that's a good thing, verrrry family oriented and the kids under 12 will laught their respective heads off as will the parents!), the darn show has been running since, what? like 1973 or 75 or something completely unchanged. Just on that alone, it's kind of a WDW classic, ya just gotta see it or you didn't really see WDW! If you don't go, you will continue to wonder another year if you are really missing something. It's a better deal if you do drink the alcohol (hey, you take a boat to a bus, nobody's driving if you're staying on-site!) and gorge on the food!
