To the ones I trust the most! Family just gave me my Mother's Day/ 60th Birthday gift. Eight days at Poly over the 4th of July for my birthday!
DGD is seven and has been to Disney many times but never Hoop or Luau. DH wants me to book both but I have heard some not too flattering things about Luau. Want her to enjoy the experience but wonder if these two dining experiences have changed over the years. Haven't been to either in a very long time. Which is worth the most? We are on DDP so I hate to give up four dinners for both of these. I also hate to give up time eating when I can be in a park. Some feedback ASAP is much appreciated!:woohoo:

I've been to both, and even though you are worried about losing time, I would recommend the Hoop. I think it is more kid friendly, not that the Spirit of Aloha is adult only. The food at Hoop is more in line for a 7yo and the slapstick humor is PERFECT at that age.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks so much for your reply and for being awake! This is my down time of the night when no one is around. My instincts are for Hoop also but the Luau is so right there and I know when she hears the drums she'll want to go. Just don't want to waste the DD meals. Thanks Again!

No problem. Maybe a little trip over to AKL to see the real African drums will be beneficial. It is a great experience also.

Great idea! The drums are great and she can dance herself silly! Hoop has always been a favorite with my own kids when they were small. DS was even on stage the last time we were there. Okay, you have made up my mind. Have a great night and thanks again!

Hoop de Doo.. this was the only place I was so hesitant to go with my picky mother and daughter. And wow.. they had a bawl.. this place was so much fun and the food was soooo good! :)

DS 7 loves the HDDR....I just booked it again for August for our 4th time. Food is good and the show is a lot of fun. And the drinks are free;)

Sorry I have never been to the luau but I had a friend that did and she like it.

First of all.......what a fabulous BD gift!!!! I agree with PPs about Hoop......more fitted for 7 year old. Not that Luau would not be fitting, I just enjoyed Hoop more.

Enjoy your trip!!!!!

Maybe do Hoop dee Doo ( 2 credits) and Ohana at the Poly ( 1 credit ) I heard they have coconut Races for kid's & they can sing along also ---- Also for your GD you can make Lai's ( cant; spell this sorry ) Just look in the Daily Poly paper for time 's .....
What a Wonderful 60 th gift ------ I just had mine and got a Emerald & Diamond Band ---- I love Diamond's and Disney the same --- ha ha .. ;)

Yes awesome present!! :thumbsup2

For what it's worth, I love the Luau, and every time we stay at the Poly, we book the Luau for the first night! It's a lot of fun: dancing, music, great food, etc! I have not been to the Hoop in a VERY long time so maybe I am a bit bias :rolleyes1 Either way I'm sure your DGD will love it!! Here's some pics just to give you an idea! :goodvibes

And have soooo much fun on your trip!!

We have done both and I vote for HDDR for your situation. We just went in April and with us were our 8 year old nephew and 6 year old niece. DD16 was also with us. My nephew, especially, had a roaring good time. The slapstick humor is most appreciated by that age group I think, and their pure enjoyment made me laugh and have a great time.

Also having done both, I would recommend the HDDR. Your granddaughter will talk about it forever. My kids (teenagers) love it even though they have seen it 3 times! The Luau is fun, but Hoop Dee Doo is very special.

Both are must do's. He may enjoy Mickey's Backyard BBQ better then the two. I have heard it is geared for children. Personally, we like the Luau more then the HDD but that is more due to the fact the wait staff is a little less aggressive. But in reality neither show has really changed much in the last 30 yrs.... So if you have already been then you know what to expect.
