Hoodsie cups

We are going back for a visit in May and this is what I'm looking forward to: Nissen donuts, Helluvagood French Onion dip, Weathervane restaurant, Clambake restaurant, Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, Friendly's, Alex's Pizza (best pizza ever!), Amato's sandwiches, OOB Pier Fries, and Humpty Dumpty potato chips.

ALEX's ... absolutely, luv, THE best pizza evAH!!! And I sooo remember the Humpty Dumpty chips in a huge tin!!!

A fav of mine is BOB's in Kittery for fish and chips! AND of course the MAINE DINER in Wells for breakfast!

Another vote for Dixie Cup - I get them in bulk from Costco and the bag still comes with a supply of wooden spoons

When I hear Dixie Cups I think we need a drink from the little cups in the bathroom, not ice cream. And I was also worried to look to see what this was, glad it was just ice cream. We do have friendly's in OH, but it is really close do I never get the individual cups ( I go there and buy one get one free, they always have coupons) so I do not know if they come with a spoon, but the ben & jerry's $1 (well at least $1 here) do come with a spoon and I think haaguen-daz does too at that price. Hoodies sounds good.

I grew up in SE Massachusetts so they'll always be hoodsie cups to me. Actually, now that I think about it, my NC born children call them hoodsie cups, too. I've made the name generic.

I don't know the actual name of the ones that they sell here.

We use dixie cups to rinse our mouth after we brush our teeth

This thread is making me nostalgic and hungry. That's a dangerous combo I think I'll go make a fluffernutter and wash it down with some coffee milk!!! My relatives smuggle down some coffee syrup every time they visit.

H.P. Hood was my great-great grandfather, and our family owned Hood Dairy for well over 140 years. You can bet I have eaten A LOT of Hoodsie cups.

It makes me very happy to know so many people love them and have fond memories of them!

(and for the record, I have always preferred the wooden spoon!)

I was afraid this was going to be about another derivation of the Diva Cup.

We call them ice cream cups. They are too small. I like a nice pint of Dove Unconditional Chocolate. I can eat the whole thing if I don't stop myself.

Me too. Our ice cream cups were always 1/2 vanilla, 1/2 orange though.

Didn't like the wooden spoons either. I used to use the lid from the ice cream cup (bent in half) as a spoon. :teeth

OMG! I remember doing that, too, now that you mention it! If you lost the wooden spoon, or didn't get one? Mom wasn't gonna let you take one of HER spoons outside! Improvise! !

You mean to tell me that you can't get Helluvagood Dip in other parts of the country? That's the only French onion dip I eat. I'm in deep doo doo.

So I bet you can feel good, VERY good, about Hood, huh? For the record, based just on reputation and tradition, I prefer Hood milk as well (but, admittedly, will drink Garelick Farms if there's a BIG price difference )

I have never tasted pizza anywhere else that even comes close to Alex's. It truly is a different type of pizza, and you can't really explain why. Someone has to taste it to understand. The Maine Diner is good, but there is always a line a mile long out the door. We very seldom eat there.

I know, I couldn't believe the stores here don't carry Heluvagood products. I think there are quite a few states that carry them, but not around here. I've tried every french onion dip that I can find, but none of them taste anything like the heluvagood brand. Maybe I'll take a cooler with me to Maine next month and bring some home. Nah, I bet security would make me get rid of it.

Ahhh ... no kidding BUT I had some insider "help" ... when my Mom and Dad retired to Maine full-time from MA, Mom did not want to just sit around so at age 70yo, she got herself a part-time job at the MD Gift Shoppe. She absolutely LOVED talking to all the tourists about Maine and mostly Southern Maine. Anyway, whenever we would travel up to Maine for the weekend (which was almost every weekend in the summer), she was usually working Sat/Sun morns, we would call her as we were leaving her home to get us on the list AND by the time we pulled into the parking lot, viola, they were calling our name. Mom is almost 85yo now and she worked there for a good 6 years.

We just call them "little cups of ice cream".

I'm thinking the ones we get aren't a mix of chocolate/vanilla though.

It's chocolate swirl (i.e. chocolate syrup in vanilla ice cream), strawberry swirl or just plain old vanilla.

I don't know of any real name for them other than "ice cream cups"

At least if what the OP is describing is what I'm thinking it is...but no spoons available anywhere with them anymore.

Oh my. Hoodsie cups are the best! We always got them as a treat in elementary school. It's just the perfect amount of ice cream for me because I'm not a big ice cream eater. You definitely need the wooden spoon.

With due respect to chamonix and family - cinderellacastle29, you've GOT to check out the premium ice cream case at your supermarket. Ben & Jerry's, Haagen Dazs, and a brand that's slipping my mind at the moment, all make small, single serve cups of ice cream in a variety of flavors: chocolate, vanilla, coffee, strawberry (I think), mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, cheesecake...
